That would the mentality of many fans in each fanbase.

Yep - I agree. And all those fans would be wrong. Thinking a pro athlete owes them something, anything, instead of putting their lives and health first. Thinking that inconvenient timing somehow changes things ... anyone think Luck wasn't 100% trying to be ready for game 1 of the season for the last 5 months? I'm certain Luck is devastated his career in football is over.

I agree with that. I'm just saying there's idiots in every fanbase, including our own. I can understand the sentiment that people feel the fans were wrong for booing him. I agree with that sentiment. But when people boil it down to "Colts fans"...well, you know what would happen here if Baker did the same.

Most remember him from 2017 and him seemingly being overwhelmed. He may end up being a decent QB, but when compared to Luck and Manning, he is definitely a step down.

I am going out on a limb here. I think he might have a life threatening illness.I have nothing to base this on just a thought. Hope I am very wrong.

First let me say that I'm making no comparison to Luck or any other QB in this response, this is about Brissett.

Vers I agree with you. I see quite a bit of development from him since he's entered the league. I see increased pocket presence since he's been in Indy. I do think the Colts offense will have to operate somewhat differently with him as the starter but they can still win. Some of the verticle elements in their offense might have to be dialed back. They know Brissetts strengths and I think they'll adjust enough to be competitive.

I actually think Brissett will do fine for them ... maybe he doesnt have the upside but they’ll still be good. He destroyed us two years ago IIRC.

Anyways, here’s what I’ve kinda gathered reading different insiders:

- Luck wanted to retire back in March (way before this recent injury)
- The Colts FO told him to hold off and see if he changes his mind; basically begged)
- He agreed and went through the offseason (and got hurt again)
- They began to get Brissett ready to start the season and Luck’s mind was basically made up
- He told them about a week ago that it was finalized ... they told him to hold off til after preseason
- Then Irsay leaked it out DURING the game to Schefter as a bush league move. Luck was in the building and maybe the FO wanted to make him face the music. I mean, couldn’t they have waited 90 minutes?

Really? You are telling me that you hate them for resting their starters back in 2007 when they went 13-3 and were thinking about the playoffs? Do you really think they cared about the Browns getting into the wildcard spot? They were looking ahead at their win or go home playoff spot they had acquired due to their superior record and didn't want their starters to get injured in the final game. The Browns would do exactly the same thing and as a fan base we wouldn't care how it affected other teams playoff spots.

Luck has always been a class guy. The prototype of size, strength, arm and character.

That's why so many people are giving him a pass on this.

Sure, every player has a choice when they retire. Only they can know when they've had enough.

But you're not the only person in the locker room. You're not bigger than "the team". He just put the screws to all of his team mates. He just put the screws to his coaching staff. He just put the screws to that fan base.

Now that doesn't excuse the fans for their reaction. But when you do this to your team two weeks before the regular season starts, you've put everyone in a terrible situation.

I've always liked Luck both as a player and a person. But as someone who has played sports, the timing and the position he left his team in would not sit well with me if I were a player on the Colts.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I'm with you Vers, Brissett is no bum. His accuracy is a little off, but he is a smart player and has talent. I wouldn't sleep on the Colts, they are still going to be a good team.

I think the Colts let him keep the money for two reasons: It’s good PR, but also IF he decides to return it’s a good way to keep that bridge open .. I do think there’s a chance he takes a year off and reconsiders

Well, if it were me ... it would depend on my health of course. If I felt healthy and I missed playing and wanted to try for a Super Bowl? Yes I would

He retired because of his health. Plus, when he announced his retirement, he didn't know he'd get the remainder of his contract as well.

This guy owes nothing to anyone. If he doesn't have it left in his heart, then he did the right thing.

Too bad none of our QBs between 1999 and 2017 did the same...

I like what I see out of Foles' game so much, given the opportunity, one v one, and my decision...
I might start him over any other quarterback currently in the NFL, if they both were on the team.

Foles over Goff, \
Foles over Russell Wilson
Foles over Mahomes
Foles over
Foles over Wentz
Foles over Deshaun Jackson,

but that's just my personal opinion.

He's done some good to great things. But my opinion of him at this point is Derek Anderson ... not in arm talent, but as in a flash in the pan with limited exposure. Helps the Jags are a complete team but I don't expect him to be a top 10 QB ... he could easily prove me wrong.

Foles over Wilson or Mahomes is a bit of reach to say the least imo (that's putting it kindly)

I had Brissett as a standout in the 2016 draft. I projected him as a sleeper pick in that draft... Plus he's come a long way since. The the Colts will be just fine and I'd expect Brissett to excel.

You certainly do have some odd opinions. You may end up being right but I would put Foles outside the top 15 QBs in the league and not better than anyone on your list. Wilson and Mahomes are top 5 and Foles doesn't even come close to them. Of course that's just my opinion...

In a way, this kind of cracks me up.

If this were a player who people deem a "questionable character", he would be getting slammed for leaving his team two weeks before the regular season.

But since it's one of the golden boys, he gets a free pass.

Steve Beuerlein is 100% correct. You don't do this to your team two weeks before the regular season starts.

Wrong. It's Andrew Luck's decision and the way the team has treated him - which is pretty poorly all things considered - he can choose what the heck and when the heck he likes .... add to that, as people pointed out, the Colts pushed him hard to try to come back, it's not like this scenario wasn't a possibility. And it wouldn't matter if it was Big Ben, Suh or any other dirtbag player, same rules would apply if it was for health reasons.

He can do what he likes. But it's a 53 man roster and a team is like a family. You just don't pull that kind of BS on family. It's his damned ankle. He doesn't have heart problems or a broken neck.

The excuses made for this guys behavior astonish me.

So you know what pain he is in, what chance he has of re-injuring they ankle, what chance he has of being in pain for the rest of his life, how it affects his throwing ability ... you know that it's only his ankle and everything else is in tip-top condition?

I guess you assume that if he pulled himself up by his boot straps and applied himself and just wanted it a bit more he'd be fine ....... while I assume that when you are an elite athlete and you've demonstrated your whole career that you are tough, passionate and committed to your team and worked your tail off .... and you finally make the devastating decision to retire because of injury, that you know your body better than anyone on the planet and it must be the right thing to do.... and at the end of the day it's a business. Colts would cut him in a heartbeat if he wasn't able to perform - and not think twice.
