I was devastated when we didn't draft McCoy (that was the Robiskie, Massaquoi, Veikune draft). The guy was a stud. I have no idea how much he has left in the tank and I have no idea if he'd fit with us, especially with Hunt coming back halfway through the season.

That being said, and I'm NOT advocating this, is he someone we sign and then cut Hunt?

The short answer is no.

McCoy was a beast in is prime. He's 31 and his production is declining.

Hunt is 24 and was the league rushing champion in 2017.

I want to thank Grateful for being on top of this news. I needed a running back after one of my fantasy drafts was a little anemic at the RB position. Based on this report I added Singletary from Buffalo who will get a lot of the work now that McCoy isn't there.

I wouldn't think so .. Hunt is younger.. and a recent NFL Rushing Leader, even though he does seem to have his demons...

As a player, I think that he would be a good fit. Change of pace back with good hands. Duke, but better.

Here are the issues:
Is he ready to accept that role? If no he won't be happy here.
Would he sign with us when I am sure someone else would offer a bigger role? At what price? Would he sign with us at what we would be willing to pay? I am sure other teams would offer more.

If miraculously we offer a reasonable price and he signs with us knowing his role and being happy with it, then yes, I would see us getting rid of Hunt. And that is another issue with us signing McCoy. I kinda feel that Hunt has become a Dorsey Project. He really wants to this reclamation project to succeed under his guidance.

If we did sign McCoy and decide to get rid of HUnt then I would not just cut him. I am sure that we could trade him to someone. Most likely for conditional pick based on his performance and his off field conduct. The controversy associated with him is not gone but the brunt of that storm hit us. It is much more palatable for another team to acquire him.

Everything you guys are saying makes way more sense than what I said. Which should surprise no one.

I just was thinking a lineup of Chubb and McCoy and Hilliard, and then a lineup of Chubb, McCoy, and Hunt. But that's likely way too many cooks in the kitchen. And, like some of you have said, McCoy is on his way down. If he was still capable of producing, the Bills would have kept him.

Maybe I'm still just upset because I remember how I felt when we passed on him THREE TIMES in the 2009 draft.

Still holding out for Hilliard's productivity if he makes the 53. Then comes mid-season. Good position to be in.

I think that him going to the Texans makes a ton of sense.

Duke Johnson might not be too happy about that. grin

I could see Dallas. Not only because they need someone, but because he could then take it to Philly a couple times a year.

The Seahawks just freed up a bunch of money when Clowney left along with his tag cap # and they need someone for the entire year ....

The boys just gave Jaylon Smith a decent chunk of change and have zeke, dak and cooper to re-sign ... they couldn’t afford me much less shady .. *L* ...

That draft was so bad for WRs in round 1...Corey Coleman, Treadwell, Doctson, Will Fuller usually plays well, but injured a ton. Michael Thomas and Sterling Shephard were much picks in round 2 lol

McCoy will end up in Hou, KC, SD, etc ... a team that needs to add someone to their rotation

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I agree even if he's just 80% healthy. We are now the kind of team that could attract a vet like that. I like both Hilliard & Johnson...but I'd like McCoy more.

Yeah McCoy at this stage is still better than our back-ups...I saw him in preseason and he still has his quicks and cuts.

Plus he’s pretty good as a receiver, which would be a nice stopgap until Hunt comes back too ... the drawback? He plays no STs

Yep, as a receiving back to replace Duke is what fueled my original post on the Shady.

Btw............I sure as hell don't want to hear about players not being loyal to teams after moves like this. It's a freaking business. If teams can unceremoniously cut legendary players, than players can walk away w/out being slammed for not being loyal!!!

I wouldn’t mind having Hilliard on the PS and McCoy as our backup

I see McCoy as being very good in KC ... that’s probably the best fit of all teams

For all we know, maybe they were and he elected the Chiefs (Chargers also had an offer to him)

Shady averaged 3.2 yards per carry last year. He's done.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

While I agree he's not the back he was at his prime...Injuries and poor Oline play had a lot to do with his poor 2018 season. I think he will have a good year in KC this year, not great by any means. But after this year, he could decline big time.
