Yea, that shocks me a bit.

I think he has a higher ceiling than Colquitt at this point.

That may be a bigger indication on our punt coverage team.

If you are looking at it as a long term play Gillan makes a lot of sense.

All about the coin. Jamie is going to be cheap and he can kick the hell out if the ball. If it was close, he was going to win the job.

Colquit is one of the best, I would be surprised if they didn't trade him instead of just cut him.

The guys on CBD are going to be pissed.

Money move.

Wonder if things like this played a factor?

Other guys on the team seemed to really rally around the Scottish Hammer. Relationships/chemistry seem to be Freddie factors.

Agreed. I think that Colquitt's salary and age were the tie-breakers, so to speak. The Hammer would have had to been really bad in order to lose this competition.

Well the Hammer can keep hammerin' away on punt coverage tackles, 'cause Seibert is more than adequate as a punter.

Future trade bait?

Go Hilliard! If Hilliard does his job, Hunt will be the icing by week 8.

Only a few more days.......

We did it last year.. We had Taylor, Mayfield and Stanton.

I was really unimpressed with Jackson in the 4th preseason game.

Not a cut but this probably means Braxton Miller is off the team.

Britton Colquitt is under contract through 2020. He is owed $2.7M this year and $2.8M next year. We get to recoup that entire amount if he is cut or traded. He is 34 years old.

Jamie Gillan is under contract through 2021 (and will be an ERFA after that). He is owed $495K in 2019, $585K in 2020, and $675K in 2021. He is 22 years old.

If the skill level was close then Gillan should have won the job based on the contracts.

I remember last time we traded a punter we got a 4th round pick (Andy Lee to the Panthers) Hopefully we can get something good as Colquitt is a good punter.

My guess is that no one will want his contract.

Update: He was cut. No trade.

I get all of that and it makes a ton of sense, especially if we'd like to use the extra money to extend someone before the season or take on a contract for someone else.

My only concern is placement and strategy in the punting game. Gillan is raw and it's as simple as that. All I have seen from the guy is simply booting it as hard as he can and then running to make a tackle.

None of these cuts surprise me. The biggest surprise, and it's not that shocking, is Gillan over Colquitt.

Most surprising Cuts IMO

Britten Colquit
Anthony Zettel
Derrick Willies

A bit surprised by Willies being cut ... but Taylor takes his spot I guess.

We must really have needed upgraded at OG obviuosly

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Wonder if Corbett is going to get traded for a late round pick now? Our is he still sticking as our back up center?

Yeah I thought Willies would stick as one of bottom WRs...Idk why Dorsey loves Ratley so much, besides him spending an actual draft pick on him.
