I think I'd want the signatures of all living members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, maybe on an album cover. That would be cool for my "man cave". After that, I couldn't think of anyone else.

When I lived downtown, I would see athletes or celebrities on a semi frequent basis. I never went up to any. My wife would be out of her mind when she saw someone. I didn't care. To me, that's just another person (when they're in public, they should be given the space to live).

Timothy Leary (from when he spoke at my college).

An autographed bass guitar pick hit me in the eye as Faith No More was opening up for Metallica in '88. Still have it.

My dad gave me the Phipps poster. (Just remember, he netted us Ozzie).

Bernie autographed a rookie card from when I was a kid at training camp.

Otherwise, I find it strange for a grown man to ask another grown man for an autograph, especially if the fan is older than the athlete.

He was on a book tour doing "debates" with G. Gordon Liddy at the time. Neither was at their best.

Because I was in a specific sociology class, my girlfriend of the time and I got to do a meet and greet with Leary before the "debate". I told her not to approach him personally with questions about LSD. She paid no attention to me and went up to him and his assistant.

I was across the room drinking apple juice.

I don't know exactly what she said/asked (later she explained it was innocuous), but he smiled blankly and delicately touched her left earlobe with his forefinger before turning away. She came back smiling.

The gist of the debate - held in the college church - had to do with 80s politics.

I received a Browns helmet with the autographs of all HOF members of the Browns ... If Joe Thomas gets in, I’ll have to track him down to add to it

A friend of mine has one of those. He got all the autographs personally. He was at a show once where it was getting close to closing time and he could have either Ozzie's or Otto Graham's auto. He opted for Otto. Otto passed a little while later so he certainly made the right choice. He ended up getting Ozzie's a year or two later.

In the 70's, as a kid, I went on this spree to gather my two favorite MLB heroes autographs. I have probably 10-15 each autographed photos and baseball cards of Brooks Robinson AND Nolan Ryan.

I have an autographed photo I personally mailed to every crew member of the Enola Gay and they all signed it. I was just a boy...

When I was recently at camp I met and shook hands with Myles, Baker, Freddie, and Kirksey. All 4 of them signed a white/brown football for me and I have a photo with Myles. It was a pretty cool haul and I couldn't quite believe my luck in being at the right place at the right time.

I have also met a handful of musicians over the years and have some signed/framed gig posters, set lists and album covers.

I have a signed photo of all three guys in Triumph, which I ordered from their website.

My boyhood hero was Darryl Sittler (Maple Leafs) and I met him when I was 33 years. I was painfully nervous, but he signed a glossy photo of himself for me.

It's funny, I was PMing with another poster last night and he started talking about April Wine, one of my favourite bands ever. I met the lead singer a few years ago and he signed the inner sleeve of an April Wine CD.

Really, really like Triumph.

Regarding the Linda Lavin thing above in my first post. I was a kid of 11 years old then. She's passed away since. But the thought of a grown man asking Linda for her autograph was a little creepy, so I had to clarify.

I have quite a few different autographs.

Some from my parents. Signed letters from President Nixon and President Truman.

I have signed pics with Presidents Regan and George W.

My wife and I have a very nice Pic with President Carter and his wife, who are celebrating maybe their 73rd anniversary yesterday or today. We drove to Plains, Ga. to attend church where the President taught Sunday school. Quite the experience, we stayed at the main Hotel there, the room the President and First Lady use.


Lot's of sports figures. Many Cleveland sports figures. Many golf...Jack, Arnie, Lee.


I have a really cool signed baseball. We went to Winter Haven when the Tribe trained there. First I got Bob Feller to sign the sweetspot. Then got Kenny Lofton and Thome to sign...then got Oral Hersheiser to sign.

That could be a pretty good baseball.

I have a Jim Brown auto on a generic photo....same with Lou....I might have to get a JB auto on a mini helmet. That guy isn't going to live forever.

Frank Sinatra and Merle Haggard are the only people from music.

when I was in colleg I went to see the Kenley Players in Waren performing Arsenic and Old Lace. William Shatner was a guest star. I found a poster of Shatner outside the theater and managed to get William Shatner's auutograph on it, saying "To Gail".. I was definitely the envy of all of my fellow geek students at CMU that fall!

I’m not quite sure why, but I have never had any interest in autographs from famous people, selfies, etc. I’ve seen, met, and sat right next to quite a few on flights, but never asked or even thought about requesting one.

I might have made an exception for a Beatle, though my two favorites have passed on.

Yes! I thinks it's bizarre when I see grown men going for autographs at sporting events. I'm not even sure what the hell you'd do it with it once you got it. Leave it for the kids. Means more to kids and makes their day.

My kids have been fortunate to get quite a few as well as pictures with the players.

Cult of Personality. That's why we are obsessed w/the President, when ultimately the Congress and local/state politics affect our daily lives more.

I was at training camp just before my grandson started first grade. I think it was around 2000. I had bought him a Browns backpack as a present for him. They had players come over to sign autographs at the VIP tent. (Dawg Talk Day), and I asked each player they sent over there to sign it. To say he was thrilled about it is an understatement.

Much like you, I've met a lot of autograph worthy people in my days. From sports stars and figures to musicians, to movie stars, but never have I bothered them for an autograph.

Had I have gone to an autograph session I probably would have because they are paid to be there and that's what they're there for. But in a public setting I just think that's their time and I feel it would be intrusive.

It was like seeing Dave Chappelle and his family walking down the sidewalk in Yellow Springs. They were just out enjoying the day. He lives there. It just wouldn't feel right to me.

I have a few cousins who are famous in Ex-NFL player Jim Lachey and Celebs Nick & Drew Lachey and I don't have a single autograph from any of them.

I remember I saw Shaun Rogers walking into a restaurant and asked for his autograph ... he said no.

I generally don't ask. Had a nice conversation with Omar Vizquel at an Ozzfest, bought him a beer and everything, never even thought to ask. Pretty sure my only sports autograph is a Larry Holmes glove.

Funny thing is I have so many from my favorite band. I don't ask them either, never did really. Being in the fanclub, at meet and greets, they always offer. Last time they offered to sign my VIP pass I just said "nah", guitar player looked at me like I was from Mars.

If I ever build out the supersize man-cave, with room to display that kind of stuff, I would probably buy a Barry Sanders and/or Bo Jackson helmet. I'd also like a signed "He Hate Me" jersey as part of the lore of the great sport of football. Browns? Dixon, Metcalf and Ernest Byner would be high on the list.

One time I stole my father's autographed baseball to play with in the park by my house with the neighborhood kids. I hit the ball over the fence where a feared dog lived and was not able to retrieve the ball. Turns out the ball was autographed by Babe Ruth.

We went to a Mud Hens game a while back and sat in the Crow's Nest? I think it's called that. Private party place on the right field line. (and yes, we've been to many Mud Hens games since)

This is probably13 years ago or so. Not sure.

Anyway, I turned around, and standing behind the seats is a guy smoking. Illegal to do in the stadium. Told my wife "That guy will get kicked out."

About a minute later, I looked again, and recognized "That's Jim Leyland."

The group we were with (from a Hummer dealership), had catered food, souvenirs, and had given each family a Mud Hens ball. Told Sooga "grab your ball - go ask him if he'll sign it." (she was around 6 at the time)

So, she did, and I went with her. She asked, he said "Of course. Do you have a pen?" Sooga said no. I went and got a pen. And he stood there talking to her until I got back.

He signed the ball, and posed for a picture with her.

But, yeah, I"m not big on autographs for me. I prefer pictures. I have Jabal Sheard posing with my wife and her twin. Matt Ditka - not Mike, his son. We drank a few beers when the Bears were in Cleveland a number of years ago.

Sam Hornish jr......but he's family. Bobby Labonte, Jimmy Johnson. Patrick Ewing, Colt McCoy, Joe Thomas (but not with me.) Just pictures and memories. Probably a few others I'm forgetting right now.

Just to keep it going. Hadn't thought about it much but I have Nancy Sinatra's autograph from when I escorted her in Viet Nam '66, BB King at the Memphis Annual Blues Music Awards show in 1989 and Bob Feller #19 on a baseball from 2004 or '05.

Jim Brown used to stop at Fame Drugs on Euclid Ave (Route 20) in Wickliffe enough times we (buddies) kinda knew him by saying hello but we never asked for an autograph. This was early 60's and we speculated he was visiting Jayne Kennedy's family since she lived 10 or so blocks from Fame.

Sat next to Debbie Reynolds on a Delta flight to Atlanta from L.A. and we talked a little bit, she was friendly, but I never asked her for an autograph. Related to earlier comments, my feeling is if the person's older than you, go ahead and ask. She was in her 60's, I was 40's. So I could have without feeling funny if I wasn't so interested in avoiding acting like a fan.

I have an interesting story how my son Edwin at the age of 7 got the autographs of Ted Toles, a Negro League star, at a Mahoning Valley Scrappers game.

They had a playground for the kids at the stadium, and each kid got tickets to go down this huge slide. Edwin had gone down the slide a few times, then we spotted this elderly African-American man with his grandkids, coming up to the slide. The kids really wanted to go down the slide, but they didn't have the tickets. Edwin gave the kids his extra tickets for the slide.

After the game, the grandfather and kids were waiting for us as we left our section of the stands. He thanked us again for the slide tickets and gave Edwin and autographed picture of himself. Such a neat experience for all of us.

I have a signed Pete Rose baseball from 1975. And a Jim Brown autograph when he and a handful of Browns played our town HS faculty in a benefit basketball game for charity. But I’ve never asked for an autograph. I waited in line for them at special events.
