We signed him as a third stringer and he was promoted to second string not by merit, but by the Dilfer trade. Frye got hurt in KC and he played well for a half. After that, he didn't post a QB rating above 85, threw an increasing number of interceptions in each game, lost all three of them including his embarassing Tampa performance, then got hurt and missed the final game.

Then, he entered the off-season with the chance to compete for the starting quarterback job. Frye underwhelmed but, yet, Anderson somehow managed to play worse and lose out to him for the opener. Frye was abysmal vs. the Steelers so Anderson came in... and stunk as well.

His career QB rating is in the 60s and his career completion percentage is mid 50s. He has an arm but he has no accuracy, no mobility, poor football smarts and locks onto his receivers. Now, he's the starter because we traded Frye, effectively giving him the job by default... which he has done absolutely nothing to earn except playing well for one half in relief (maybe two if you count the Ravens game last year).

You absolutely nailed it. Excellent assessment!

I wanna know one thing...

How long will it take for DA to find Braylon with a long ball for a TD?? When will it happen?

the sooner they go deep, the better. otherwise we'll face 8 or 9 in the box and constant blitzes all day

I know, I seriously want to see them go deep in this game at least 3 times. We need to get those Bungles on their heals, and fast.

Because I can gurantee they'll be doing a whole bunch of blitz packages on DA, and we can't have that. I didn't notice that muhc from last year becuase he wasn't in that much, does he recognize the blitz well?

Because if all of them come running and we can't pick them up, we've got to dump it off to someone underneath like Harrison(where was he last game?) or someone else like Wright.

Please God let us do good, because I'm going to be at the stadium and I really don't want to be in anguish.

Let's go Brownies, we have to make them play our game, we need to keep it relatively low scoring.SHUT DOWN CHAD!

Slim and none and slim left town. DA is a "practice field All American" he looks great on the practice field and looks like crap in the game. He's got a strong arm yes, but there's something missing in his head. How he survived camp I'm still not sure. I watched all the preseason games and he looked lost out there. I watched him against Pittsburgh and he didn't look much better. There were at least 2 maybe 3 passes I saw get thrown behind the WR and that lead to drops.

I wonder how long it will be before Brady is in the game, or is starting period.

Normally non-mobile QB's know how to pick up the blitz pretty well b/c they can't run away from the defense.. worse case scenario, he'll just have to throw the ball away.

I see DA getting hurt by the 2nd quarter. He can't sense the blitz and will take too many hits.

Quinn will play today IMO. If DA is hurt he'll come in, and if we are getting waxed by the half I look for him.

Thank God. Luckily our defense stepped up after the first drive long enough to let Anderson warm up. He still makes too many stupid throws for easy ints. Again the defense dropped easy ints. Most of the balls Anderson threw were very good and he exploited the Bengals D like he was playing a high school team.

Not today anyway. Let's just hope he's not a one game wonderboy like last year.

Agreed. At first DA made me a little worried, but hopefully with more experience he'll turn around and be a decent quarterback for us this year.

I seriously imagined I was watching Kelly Holcomb during one of his "on" days. That was absolutely insane. The better he plays and the longer we keep Brady out, the better. I'm in a state of total shock right now. I loved the way DA played, but this game convinced me that we are set for years to come at receiver. Braylon, JJ, and Winslow were all unreal today. I really don't know what else to say. One of the highest paid offensive lines in the league is starting to look like one of the best. 10 ypc and no sacks of your quarterback. That left side with Thomas and Steinbach was just beastin people left and right. Sort of a collection of random thoughts, so sorry, but WOW at that performance today. We might be a lot closer than people want to admit. There's just one piece of the puzzle left, and I'd prefer if that piece not try to be fitted until many, many weeks from now.

I still hope that Brady can sit out the year and work in at the end of games in blow outs. If DA can play this well every week, I'll be happy to NOT, see Quinn in. As long as we're winning, I don't care if he's starting.

I've always bragged at the potential in our WRs and TEs. We have all the weapons on offense this year, hopefully DA continues to use them.

PRetty good (obvious sa I am posting it AFTER the game where we answered "Whodey?" pretty loud & clear today). But I am posting to say he did WORLDS better than I thought he might. Very proud of DA today; very proud of the Browns who satisfied my First Sensible Goal for 2007: Win one in the division. Attaboys! We grew up some today!

May the Elf be with us!

Indeed......even more impressive then the actual play if that makes sense.

If a QB ever walked on to a field with 80,000 people watching his every move, it was Anderson today.

The crowd was pretty primed to call for Quinn...and it sounded like it started early in the 1st qtr.

The kid hitched up his boot straps, dug in like a Ranger and answered the call.

I know he proved he is capable of putting up some big numbers.

For a guy slotted for back-up....that is pretty darn impressive under intense pressure....and make no mistake, the pressure was pretty intense..

Give him a raise and an extension...he can be my back-up any day of the week.

At minimum....he proved that today.

Like I said earlier.....I don't make people eat crow unless they start some real personal stuff....and say none of you have to eat crow.

Anderson stepped up and everybody should feel good.

it's real easy to go back and find stuff that we all had wrong.

This isn't about being right or wrong.

It is about answered questions....and Anderson answered a question,.

Can't say I didn't roll my eyes at that one too... it was a simple wide open slant and he threw it 5 yards behind him... I'm glad he eventually settled down and started making good throws..

He did answer one question IMO, but that's a question he answered in the pre-season during OTAs - How good of a quarterback is Anderson when he faces no pressure? He made it blatantly obvious that he has all the physical tools, but there's clearly something that happened when pressure and contact were added that dropped him below Frye. What I'm concerned about are his football smarts and accuracy/form/pocket presence under pressure. That's what I'm waiting to see, and I figure if not next week, we'll find out against both the Ravens and Patriots if he has the mind to perform adequately against complex defenses and in the face of great blitzing.

I'm not even close to anointing Anderson as a legitimate player before I see him against a defense that isn't bottom three in the league... but so far so good. I really hope he rides his wave of success and proves me and a bunch of others wrong.

Regardless of what happens in the future though... that sure was sweet to watch. Well done DA

First off I want to say that this is NOT a trade Anderson thread...

Before we traded Frye we heard reports that teams were more interested in Anderson than Frye. That was before the season and before Anderson had his break out performance against the Bengals. I am just wondering what sort of value Anderson has as of right NOW. 4th rounder? 3rd rounder? What do you guys think?

Obviously if Anderson continues to play well his value will increase. Who knows.. If Anderson continues to play well Quinn might not see the field this year. If that happens we would have a Brees/Rivers situation on our hands. Now.. I don't think that is going to happen but if it did I certainly wouldn't be complaining

if this is not a "trade anderson thread" then why in the hell would you start one asking that stupid question. Why worry about his trade value when we have no reason to trade him? I dont care if his trade value is a 2nd rounder, we have to have him on our roster because he is our STARTER!!!!!

Signing Steinbach - $49.5 million
Signing Lewis - $5 million
Drafting Joe Thomas and Brady Quinn - millions more
Restoring the Browns to champions - priceless.

I really hope he continues to play lights out this year. But if he does that the real question is, would we want to trade him?

He is definately more of a prototypical QB than Quinn and with our luck would we want to risk getting rid of a QB that played so well for a virtually unknown?

Here is to hoping that he plays lights out and when he is up for FA we franchise tag him and hope that somebody is stupid enough to give up two first rounders. But i'm not even thinking about holding my breath that he does.

Right now, Anderson would get us a 6th or 7th at best. Don't forget, he's one week removed from being a backup to a guy that fetched us a late 6th, and his one game was against a horrid defense. To get a 3rd or a 4th would have me laughing all the way to the bank, especially because, without a doubt, people's opinions of Anderson are going to crash back to earth in the next few weeks.

Not that any of this isn't moot anyway, because we're not going to trade our protection for Quinn and eventual backup for this year.

At this point of the season, no team would need his services. He would have to sit a while to learn another teams calls, signals, and playbook.

Atlanta would be the only team I could think of and they just signed Leftowich.

KC? they would have to be the team that wants him.

Giants? I think with Andersons experiance he would be an upgrade to Jared Lorenzon.

The trade would have to be before the draft but why would a team take him with all the rookies coming out? The trade deadline ends too early in the season to trade him to a playoff needy team that just lost their top 2 QBs for the seaon.

He would be a great backup to Carson Palmer
Anderson and a 3rd pick for Chad Johnson or Housh.

I think the Vikings would give us everything they have right now since Tarvaris Jackson played so brillianty last week.

But, really, at best a 5th now. But thats no matter, we got us a QB to start and win us some games. If he does well enough, we'll worry about it later.

As much as his production, his value is going to be determined by demand as well, and with ATL signing Leftwich, the number of teams that would even consider it is alot smaller.

I would say that the absolute most we could hope for, and this is with a follow up performance this week, is a 5th rounder.

That said, I think it is a moot discussion as his value to us is now greater than that... with us no longer having anyone else but Dorsey & Quinn, we're keeping Anderson for the rest of the season unless someone offers one ridiculously good deal for him.

Browns is the Browns

... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
