First off, I hate posing questions like this, mainly because it's a complete unkown at this point but ..........will getting Brady Quinn this year be worth potentially losing Darren McFadden next year? I ask this only because I'm watching McFadden just put on a SHOW on ESPN. It's honestly scary how a team can know he's going to touch the ball and still do absolutely nothing about it. I've watched a lot of college football and seen some great players but I really can't remember another guy that was THIS dominant. He's playing in what I believe is the best conference in college football, with an average QB and average pass catchers and he's still just shredding defenses. So...... What side are you on? If you can pick between a dominant runner or a "franchise QB" which would you choose?

I think this team depserately needs a franchise QB. QB's also take time to develop. Getting Quinn this year puts us in a better position next year. You can still pick up a RB later on and still be ok, but behind a good line, you could plug in a back and still perform well.

Well, my brother -- Mr. Big "Oklahoma Is The Only Football Team In The Country" -- still thinks we should have taken A Pete instead of JT.
Last week proved QB's are hard to come by,...the jury will still be out on Quinn for a while.
What makes you so sure we won't be in a position to get McFadden, outside of the fact we traded away next year's picks to get Quinn. True McF is a flash in the pan right now, was last year too, and he's still flashing. But that's against other college boys.
I'm not glad we have Quinn but I want him to succeed. Would rather eat crow than watch another losing Browns season. Neither Quinn nor McF by themselves is gonna turn Cleveland around in a year.
Bottom line, tossup. Wait on Mike Hart, or one of these early-out USC backs. Brandon InSaine would look better right now than Lewis does,...

I'm convinced QB is the most important position on the team, and we haven't had a good one for a long, long time.
If Quinn turns out to be everything most think he can, then I think it is safe to assume this equation will be true:
Elite QB + Average or Better RB > Average QB + Elite RB
JMO, though.
If Quinn turns out to be just average, it could haunt us for a long, long time. All things being equal, if Quinn only turned out to be "solid", I'd much rather have Run DMC.

McFadden is a sure fire top 5 selection if he comes out this season. IMO he's a much better pro prospect then Peterson. If he stays for his senior year, I pray to god we don't have a shot at him......cause everyone knows what that would mean.
I like the possibility of Hart but I don't think he'll be around in the 2nd, at-least not after the start he's had. 502 yards on a 6.1 YPC clip and 5 TD's in 3 games. Michigan's defense could single handedly cost him the Heisman. He'll be snatched up, at the latest, by a playoff team that's drafting in the early 20's looking to add another RB. I don't see how a guy that's that tough and that reliable would slide out of the 1st round. If he runs a 5.0 40, then maybe he will but I think he'll time a lot faster then people think.

I've never been convinced QB is "the most" important, but last week went a long way toward reversing that stance,....you need a SMART, physically talented, savvy guy to play QB. More important, you have to have an o-line to protect this asset. Joe Thomas was the "correct" pick, but whether it works will be another jury-still-out. No QB or RB can do it by themselves.

Just to add on what your saying compare these 4 players Tom Brady > Larry Johnson Peyton Manning > LaDanian Tomlinson The reason why I favored these QBs is because they have rings.

Agreed. And that's why I said what I did. I don't think I've ever used the phrase 'qb is the most important position' until after last week's game. And not only do I strongly believe it now, I've used it about 5 times on here since last week's game.

You have to go with the QB..Without this guy, the threat to throw down field or to send the defense into fits because you faked a blitz and handed off to the RB makes good enough sense to me. ..The Browns are going to be fine. .Give Brady some time to marinate and please BE PATIENT. ..It's not going to happen over night or the next ! You must keep the faith and do these three things: With Prayer comes Patience, With Patience comes Perseverence and With Perseverence comes Resolve...The Cleveland Browns will be fine,,,,

well we gave up next years 1st rounder for quinn this year.
you can look at it this way, we drafted quinn in 2008, he starts in 2008 with a year experience allready.

I love running backs - my favorite position to watch. That being said, watching our QB debacle has raised the importance of QBs in my mind. If we're rating players on a scale of one to ten, I think:
8 rated QB + 5 rated RB > 5 rated QB + 9, or maybe even 10 rated RB
Even LaDanian can't run when the D decides to focus only on him. You'd need an 11 rated RB like Jimmy Brown or Barry Sanders to do that. Plus, QB mistakes are generally more tragic than RB mistakes. A mediocre QB will make more of those tragic mistakes (fumbles, ints, sacks, bad passes, etc. VS, fumbles and missed holes)

My thoughts exactly.IMO we would have drafted a QB next year anyway,so we got the guy we wanted/needed a year early.

This next year is saturated in RBs, one of them might fall to us.

No thanks. I say extend Jamal now. If we don't draft D-line with our first three picks, I will be pissed.

The NFL is made up of mostly solid, serviceable QB's. The worst case BQ is one of these. We can hope for more though!

Jamal had one good game.. let's see how he holds up physically all year. I'd like to see him back next year... possibly to split carries with a good draft pick or younger FA pick up... We'll have to see where we draft and what's available but RB and DL are both going to be needs for this team...
So be prepared to be pissed, because no way do we use 3 consecutive picks on the same position... not to mention, Smith looked pretty decent yesterday..

Fine, split hairs.. but if you think we're going to take more than one DL in our first 3 picks, then my opinion remains the same... be prepared to be pissed.

With no 1st-rounder, our picks suck. We'll need to stack the deck to have any chance of getting some talent. This isn't going to cut it:
75 Fraser, Simon DL 6-6 300 03/27/1983 3 Ohio State 78 Kelley, Ethan DL 6-2 338 02/12/1980 3 Baylor 99 Roye, Orpheus DL 6-4 330 01/21/1973 12 Florida State 98 Smith, Robaire DL 6-4 320 11/15/1977 8 Michigan St. 91 Smith, Shaun DL 6-2 325 08/19/1981 4 South Carolina 92 Washington, Ted DL 6-5 375 04/13/1968 17 Louisville

It won't really matter (missing on McFadden)....we'll be signing Michael Turner from San Diego in the offseason. He'll be our "#1 pick".

Robaire Smith has looked pretty good, there is always free agency, and there is DL talent to be found in the second round...

Fraser doesn't play enough to levy judgement,...so, he must not be very good in practice, or he doesn't fit the "scheme." Whatever that is,... The Browns have not been any good at drafting DLmen since the 60's,...that's what needs to change. Most FA's are has-beens,...who has Ted Washington stopped since his arrival,...the locker room toilet so far. Better linebacker play -- pointing out here that college linebackers are much more available in the draft, IMO -- would go a long way toward better line play. Either that, or we have the wrong people for the scheme. "Employ your men in accordance with their capabilities." --- old Marine Corps leadership proverb
