That he is without question good enough to be the back-up on this team.
The kid was under some pretty high pressure. We lost last week in miserable fashion and the last guy to start was pretty much cut from the team.
He knew all eyes would be on him and his play.
After a somewhat rocky start, he settled in nicely and his team responded.
Quinn is still the starter in wait, and his time will come soon enough.....but Anderson should have answered any questions some might have had about his ability to be a better than average back-up for this team.

I hoped Quinn payed serious attention today on how things should be done because lets be honest we don't know how long this play will last. This should be a a good day for Quinn today as well, good learning experiance for him and were not going to see this style performance every week on O, but hopefully he learned a ton today, he is the future.

I had made a statement before the season that we would be sorry if DA beat out Charlie for the starting job.
I could not have been more wrong, but I also didn't see a complete mental meltdown by Chuck either.
But I agree with you...DA proved today our backup situation should be set for years...Quinn, DA, Dorsey.
I can live with that.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Every good game by the present QB is another week for BQ to practice, grow and learn...here's to a bunch of those!

Peen, This was probably a career saving game for Anderson. While he was the starter in the meantime, his long-term NFL tenure was somewhat shaky IMO. I'm happy for DA as a game like this should keep him on an NFL roster for some time. He showed that he will be a very solid #2 and who knows, if he develops in to a bona-fide starter wouldn't that be a nice problem to have? I personally don't see it but I have been wrong before....unfortunately for Cleveland its been on the opposite end of the spectrum.

I agree.
Anderson just raised the level of play for a Browns QB.
This isn't to start any controversy between him and Quinn.
It is simply a matter of when Quinn is ready because we have a pretty good guy in position now.
Be it now, be it never, we just became a better football team today.

I had a concern that BQ might think he'd get in by default eventually and that still may be the outcome. I want DA to make him work for and earn that spot.
I feel that with this performance and the confidence boost it and his teammates should give him may carry him for a bit.

my thought is. If he can keep this up...Maybe, just maybe we could get our 1st round pick back. Or maybe an additional 2nd.
We can draft a late round guy next year, or sign a young backup like a Troy Smith for the lack of a different name (jared zabransky maybe) just someone young with some upside.
If DA keeps this up, when Quinn is ready, we can Drew Brees him and get good return. Lets hope

That is always a possibility.....but...for now, I just prefer to think he has proven he is a solid back-up.....and remember...I have liked DA from the beginning and always thought he was better than Chuck..

Honestly If DA plays this well the rest of the season he won't be a backup, he won't be on our team for long. I hope he does that way we can get a high round pick for him.
So how much do you think Andersons performance helped Quinn as an on-looker? In the learning aspect.

Relax a bit fellas, the OLine was steller today we can't count on this week in and week out, but they had one hell of a showing, let's not forget that.

There really isn't much that can be taken from this week by itself.
If this team comes out and stinks up the joint offensively over the next 3 or 4 weeks, what will this week have meant?
If this team gets to a point of consistent offensive competence, then I'll be ready to say that this player or that answered questions about him. Not before. Remember, Holcomb lit up the Bengals a few years back as well. He appeared to be, at the very least, a capable and long term backup for this team. Where is he today?

That's INSANE...
Put this in perspective people...This was a Cincy Defense that is WEAK...
Anderson isn't all of a sudden gonna stop staring down receivers...He ain't all of a sudden gonna stop being wildly inaccurate...Not gonna happen...
He started like crap again...The Quinn chants started EARLY...AGAIN...Anderson got zoned in and hot...But there is no way this dude is gonna do it consistently...Not gonna happen...
When Quinn's ready he's IN...Bank That...
The positive we should all see is this...
We have a bonafide REAL Coordinator that knows how to utilize what we have at his disposal... We have the makings of a bonafide REAL NFL Caliber Offensive Line... We have weapons all over the field...
We're SET for Quinn's arrival...
Go Browns!!!

Thanks DiD. What i'm afraid of is this was the 2nd half of the KC game and were now in for the rest of the season.

Thanks for reading my mind.
I too am happy with the performance DA had today, but I got to see some consistency before I have complete faith in him. The Holcomb reference is a perfect example of why I'm not jumping on the bandwagon yet.
When describing many a QB from this team, the comment "even a blind squirrel find a nut eventually" has been used. I just hope that it doesn't become a cliche with Anderson too.

DiD. I know its unlikely. Thats why i said lets hope!
One of the quotes I heard that makes me optimistic, is from a different thread, it was written that after the trade went through, BE and a few others went to DA and said that they have faith in him, and they believe in him, and that Derek was a different guy in the huddle today. He was more commanding than he's ever been.
I like hearing that. I think he's relaxed a little, and will improve. He didnt stare much down today, he seemed to move his head alot today. He did a very good job. But the thing is, he did good things that bad QBs dont do. He is still inaccurate yea, but that isnt the biggest deal in the world. He still makes some bad decisions. But with full time preparation, and a good mentor in Dorsey, You have to look at it this way. He's going to improve as the year goes on. Thats what players do, they make mistakes, but then they learn from them and get better. and if he plays well enough and we do well enough. Hopefully someone can look at him like a Matt Shaub, and we can get some value for him in return.

It will mean that DA had a Holcomb moment (58-48 in 2004?) I hope this was just a combo of DA having time to do his reads, the relief of no QB controversy, and the football gods deciding we have had enough pain. Lets see how he performs next week, and the week after. If he at least plays decent, controlled football, I will have belief in him. Remember, he played lights out in the 2nd half of a KC game, and then didn't do squat the next 3 weeks. Here's to DA haveing a great day, and may they continue.

Actually ..... he played decently against the Steelers and Ravens last year. His really bad game was against Tampa, where he wound up throwing 4 INTs. Against the Ravens he wound up completing almost 72% of his passes.
Many people let that Tampa game really color their memory. It was a really bad game ..... and I still wonder just when he got hurt in that game.

If Lewis runs nearly as well as he did today next week, Anderson should do fine. I noticed his comfort started after Lewis had a few 5+ yard gains and a first down or two (at least I think that's what I saw...lots of beer since I took my parents to the game and it was on them )

Exactly... I'm fully expecting DA to revert to previous sub-80s QB ratings against quality secondaries because the Bengals are absolutely horrendous. However, what this DOES do is now it gives us a free pass to keep Brady out until the bye week, something we didn't have going into this game. I'm freaking pumped.
Not only do we have a sweet win in the present, our future may yet be preserved until when he's ready. I may still think DA doesn't have what it takes to be a starter but, today, he's my freakin hero.
We're... we're good?

Anderson had a good game, I'm not sold on him as a backup or a long term fixture in this offense. Let him play a few more games, let's look at his numbers and then go from there.
This was one of those days every single thing went right on offense.
That being said, I hope Quinn did take notes.

Peen...I loved the game and especially the offenses play. Anderson did settle down and have a great game.
Now, a dose of "reality"....was the Browns offense that good...or was the Cinci defense that bad?
I'm not taking anything away for our guys, they did the job on offense with a remarkable effort. In two weeks, we find out just how good our offense is.
I will take a couple days to enjoy this great win...but thinking ahead, the true test awaits us...that much I do know...woof...mac

Personally, if we come in and do some damage to the Raiders next week and Anderson ends up looking like gold again. The props go to Chud, because it goes to show that the guy can make a system QB out of nearly anyone.
The thing that bothers me the most is Braylon. It's not Anderson I'm completely worried about. It's BE... the guy put on a show, and looked like the #3 pick we took. But, if this O is going to work we need him to step up and play consistently solid like he played yesterday. It adds one more legitimate threat we have, and I'd like to have as many solid Impact Players as possible. The more threats you have the more deadly you become.

I admit, I was wrong about DA for this week, hopefully for his carrer, DA look sharp today, good reads, nice quick release One game dosent a carrer make, but it's a start and really after week 1 will take it... Nice job DA...keep it rolling..Prove us wrong every week

No kidding. Did anyone watch the Vikings yesterday? They would kill to have Anderson as a backup or even starter right now. Tavaris Jackson is terrible.

He is what he is..but I give him props for improving on some things during the game..he did look off some recievers..he did make the throws he needed to. But he also made a horrible decision when he tried to force that pass to Edwards and got picked.
What the BROWNS need him to do is take care of the ball and manage the offense not force throws. Anderson's start was like Anderson's complete games..U wonder what the heck he see's and where the heck is he throwing to?

I dissagree with this poor assessment made out of eagerness to see our 1st round QB play.
One thing I got from Joe's postgame interview was that we, the fans, need to support the team that is on the field. If DA plays like he did against Cinci (weak defense or not) every week, I would not mind Quinn NOT taking a snap all year. If our crowd dogs him in all his mistakes, his confidence will falter. That will only increase our chances of losing. DA played a great game, lets go out and support him as if he was our future, you never know what may happen in this game.
This offense also needs consistancy, not doubt as to who will start behind center. I want to see what Brady is capable of at a professional level too, but I also want him to develop at a good pace. BQ is our future, his time is not quite here yet. I know when he mature's as an NFL Caliber QB, Cleveland will have the offense all defenses hate to go against.
Can I ask you a couple of questions: What do you think of Tony Romo? How many snaps did he get before he got his call last year? He is a great example aof a player that was developed in good fashion, who is now one of the best QBs in the league. Romo was with the Cowboys for 3 years before he threw a ball on gameday.
We as fans have to be patient with our team and young players.
In case you number smashers need stats here's Romo's
http://www.nfl.com/players/tonyromo/careerstats?id=ROM787981
To all haters, if you can't be a true cleveland fan; there's another orange team just south of us that can use your faithfullness.

If BE is the head case some on here think he is, then the highlight reels he's getting today should be enough to fuel him to try to step-up again next week.
