Last years big goal was two in a row... remember? RAC said something to the effect of back to back wins and consistency. Well my question is simple. Can we win next week against the Raiders?

Cinci beat the Ratbirds last week,
The Ratbirds eacked out a win against the Raiders today,
And we put up 51 points to BARELY beat Cinci.

The Raiders won't be caught off guard, They will have tape of today's game to watch. Cinci showed up expecting to steam roll us because they watched Pukesburg make a laughing stock out of our Browns. No way did they expect us to post 51 points.

Next week will be a fair measure of any real improvement... Games like today happen "on any given Sunday"... Do we have what it takes to have a 2, 3, 4 game win streak?

At the very least, the season is now interesting.

Our O is not going to put up 51 again, however, if our line continues to gel and get better, the D will come around so I give us a pretty good shot next week as Oakland's O is not that good.

We have not won two straight reg. season games since 2003.
Four years. It'd be nice to break that streak

Next week is the best chance we are going to have to do it.

I thought we'd be getting our first win next week.

But I think we'll string two in a row, and I think that will be nice momentum going into the Baltimore game.

Against oakland. Possibly. We have had their number the last few meetings.
I think this could be it. Two in a row, let's finally get it.

Denver Eeked out a win against the Raiders today. (AFC West divisional games are always tough)

Personally Oakland doesn't have nearly the potent of an offense as Cincinnati but LaMont Jordan is a beast... the guy has bulked up since being traded to Oakland and he looks mean. If we have any chance next week it's going to start up front. WE HAVE TO STOP THE RUN.

Oakland has a Defense and is completely on the other polar end of the spectrum. They rely more on their Defense, in fact they're scary because they will score points on you if you don't look out. Secondly Gerrard Warren is coming home to Cleveland and knowing NFL players, they're looking for anything to get riled up about. Someone, Anyone, being DL or OL has to show him that he doesn't deserve to be on the same field as the team we're fronting.

Finally, our Secondary has to start gelling together. They have to be lights out when covering the receivers. I would love to see Jerry Porter restricted to 4 catches for 25 yards.

Here's something I read today in the genious that is Vinnie Iyer's blog. (sarcasm) However, this point was very very true, and needs to be exploited next week.

he said THE RAIDERS CONTINUE TO BE UNABLE TO STOP THE RUN LATE IN THE GAME, as evidenced by Travis Henry's drive in OT.

We have to pound the ball. If we give it to Jamal 30+, I think we'll see a W. Something we have now that can help us win games like the upcoming one. Jamal Lewis, a guy that can wear down a D and late in the game, can control the clock, and lead us to points. He's a closer

Past performance may not be an indication of the future.

Generally you need to allow 4 weeks to make an assessment of a teams play. Not so much as to how they perform in an individual game, but to see how they play against the other teams strengths and weaknesses.

We know that Pittsburgh is probably going to be pretty good.

We know that Cincy can put up the points, but their defense continues to be challenged. If hte Browns would have held them under 30, I would have been surprised. No one could have predicted the 51 point offensive on-slaught, but the Cincy D is not very good.

The Raiders have a decent D, but their offense continues to struggle.

Baltimore has a good D and a bad O.

Going to Oakland for a game, and then a game with Baltimore will probably help the Browns D. The upcoming opponents do not represent the challenge offered by Cincy or Pittsburgh.

Jamal and the o-line are definitely keys to this game. Oakland has a pretty tough D, including a good pass rush. We need to hold that off and make holes for our bruiser to wear them down. Combine that with shots down the field and STOPPING their run, and we could very well see 2 in a row

I think we need to start counting on Vickers a little more too. We don't want to beat Jamal to death to get a couple wins early in the season, only to have him hindered later.

Hopefully, Vickers learned alot on that dropped pass, and doesn't let it happen again.

I think we will be relying on more of the dump passes, and TEs against Oakland, with the occasional shot down field.

i think we have a shot

as long as we don't abandon the run early...we need to stick with it....so they don't tee off on Anderson...if we cna get the run going and stick with it...we can win this game

We're playing the Raiders, a team that just left everything on the field against Denver and I'm not sure how much they're going to have or show against us on Sunday. This is our chance to win 2 in a row.

We can beat Oak if we can do the following:

On offense-
Protect DA and give him time to find receivers
Establish the run and stay with it
Clock management
Don't turn the ball over

On defense-
Stop the run
Pressure the QB
Create turnovers

If we can do that and keep the penalties to a minimum then we are good enough to win on a consistant basis. Two W's back to back would make for good momentum against the rats who we play at home. It is possible we could go into the bye at 4-2.

I honestly see us putting up 35 against the Raiders. Oakland's LB core, though good, cannot cover KW2 for 4 quarters. Raiders will have to respect Jamal after getting 200+ rushing. That makes for great opportunities for Edwards, Jurevicious & throw Cribbs in for good measure on a couple of 3 wide sets. I see some great offensive sets coming up this week against Oakland. We go 2 in a row...

I think the days of dump offs are over with Chud calling the plays. We are going tio be creative on offense and do a lot of different things instead of lining up and being predictable on every down.

I think you might be right.
I think the only dump offs we'll see are hot routes to beat a blitz, not some dink & dunk offense that goes nowhere.

Good point....winning streaks start with 2...working of a 3rd.

We passed one hurdle and didn't start a winning streak.....and that is a positive.

A win next week is critical...win the week after that, and we have made a big stride.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I am gonna go out on a limb here and say .......

If we score 51 again this week, we will definitely beat the Raiders.

I think that this 2 game stretch gives us one of our best opportunities to win 2 in a row.

Vickers? lol. I always wonder what love affair the team has with the fullback. Vickers gets it on forth and 1, denied while Lewis was owning the d. Vickers gets the call on 3rd and 5 and drops it. Wow. As long as he doesnt start throwing the ball again.

This team is better than good enough....

The players are getting together on their own to discuss and work out problems....They have more beleif in themselves a a good team...Than it has been for years......

The o-line play....gave confidence for the QB...to stand in the pocket...and make down field throws.....

The receivers gained confidence in the Qb to get the ball there....now they are making the catches....and getting to the ball....

J.Lewis....gained confidence in the line making holes....and the receivers making some good blocks down field.....

The D.....is going to get extra help in practice this week.....They will step up...

IMO...2 in a row is reachable......Hell come back and beat the birds.....thats 3

I don't think it's a question of good enough, we have come very close to beating some very good teams in the past, but we always make mistakes.

The question should be "Are we disciplined enough?" to hold composure, and have confidence in the face of adversity?

Can we overcome the bad, and showcase the good?

Can we count on the others to pull harder when one of their teammates is having an off day?

Do they have enough confidence in themselves to do it?

I like what BE had to say on Monday, "we haven't played like this since I have been here, this is footbal...THIS IS CLEVELAND BROWNS FOOTBALL. The way we played against Cinci is the way we want to play every game, because WE know we can play like that."

***Quoted this from memory, but it is very close to what he said.***

I really liked JJ's press coverage, what a total class act. I am so happy he is here to bring these younger guys along. Solid work ethic, solid play, solid team mate, soid human being... What more could you ask for?

Laughed my A** off at K2's post game press interview. When asked what happened to the guy covering him on his TD, he said he made a move and kept going, the press said what happened to the DB covering him, he replies, "I think he went to get popcorn or something..." LOL

___________________________________________________________

Another win... I feel like that is all this team needs right now to completely turn the corner. If we can string 2 or 3 together, we will no longer be a laughing stock.

Some are saying Sunday was a FLUKE, but I think the guys on NFL Total access rebutted to the effect of "maybe but when it happens against a team as good as the Bengals, all the other teams have to worry about it happening to them."

I would love to have a playoff run or even a season at .500 but if they do nothing else this season I would really like to see them win one game against each division rival the same way the put it on Cinci. Only I would like to completely humiliate the Steelers... we owe them a few of those.

If we could when the next two in merciless slaughters... this team would be thought of as a contender again. OH FOOTBALL GODz let it be so... please

I think the biggest thing to take from the game on Sunday is confidence. This team now knows they can score points. Yes Cinci has a bad defense and I don't expect to score 51 anytime soon but it gives the offense some confidence in themselves. They have some weapons it all depends on DA getting them the ball.

The great thing is this is when you need a confidence building game. Week 2 and we are 1-1 coming off of a 51 point performance. We will see if this lights a fire under their ass and they can start scoring some points on a regular basis. Not 51 but more than what we've put up in the past.

another thing that I think the Defense...even though they played awful they do have something they can hang their hat on.

THEY MADE THE PLAY WHEN THEY NEEDED TO! They may have played bad all game...but when it came down to it, they made the play. Its something they can build on.

It may not seem by too much, but it really does say something. Romeo put it on the D at the end of the game and it came through. If the Raiders have the ball late in the game with a chance to win, I'm not going to be quite as nervous now, because this D can now say they can make the play when they need to.

I'm sorry but until this D proves it can stop someone on a consistant bases i will be nervous when Romeo puts it in their hands to win the game.

Win or lose, this will be a close game. Oakland's record doesn't do them justice, they are a much improved team from last season. Their defense is key however, and I believe Jordan ran all over us last year. These will be the deciding factors of the game.

DA- Anderson started out horribly against Cincy but them let them up. However its never a good sign when the QB admits hes been streaky since college. We need top hope he has a decent day (ie limit turnovers, take what the defense gives you, stay confident). Oakland's secondary is no joke. If DA starts out bad, he could continue the trend the entire game. He doesn't need to put up numbers like last week. Just move the chains.

Jamaal Lewis- the main weakness of Oakland's DEF is against the run. While it may not be as suspect as Cincy's, the previous two teams have faired pretty well against them. Lewis needs to hit his holes, avoid turnovers, and just move those chains, wear them out.

O-Line- I was very impressed with this o-line this past week. With everyone, Thomas and Steinbach dominated the left and Shaeffer looked like a whole new player. They will face a tougher challenge from Oakland but I really like what I saw and hope they continue to open holes and protect DA.

Defense- This defense has looked horrible thus far. They need to settle down. We did a good job against Parker in the first game but the secondary is getting lit up. Hopefully with the return of Holly and hopefully a healthier Bodden we can settle down. Wright is being baptised under fire and its showing but I believe he'll come around, maybe not this week though. I'm not so much focused on turnovers as I am just breaking up passes and not letting the reciever get open, make them fight for the ball at least.

If we can come out of here with a W then I will feel really good about Baltimore, we always give them a challenge when we play.
