Especially the liberal crowds.

All you have to do is look around you to see it's pretty evenly split. But I would never expect you to admit that. All you really have to do is look at who you helped elect as president as a prime example.

Do you still watch the games?

The NFL didn't do anything to krapernick. He did it to himself. The NFL became America's game in the 80s. It had more fans than baseball. The players strike in baseball solidified that. After 9/11, the NFL started their patriotic pregame. This made them more America's game. When kap started his anti flag campaign, it angered a great many fans. The NFL had to learn tthe hard way they are still answerable to their fans. If I turned off a Browns game after our players kneeled, I'm sure many others did too. Just for the record, I'm one of those people that didn't watch a single game between 96 and 99.

Kap's baggage outweighs his talent, and has for some time. He terminated his contact with the 49ers, putting himself out of a job. If a team needs a 2nd string qb, there are plenty that won't cause as much controversy.

(Not even getting into my opinion on the issue)

But a few of my guy friends (who happen to be African-American), went the other way on this. They actually boycotted the NFL over their treatment of Kaepernick.

Business-wise, it created a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. One side was going to be upset no matter what.

Family issues apology after 6th-grader recants claims that white classmates cut her dreadlocks

Pathetic. Got everything coming to them.

Wow, she was in a ton of articles and media coverage too. smh

You know, she's too young to truly understand what she's done here, but in instances where hate crimes are falsely claimed and reported by people capable of understanding the seriousness, they should be charged IMHO.

Have to. She already wrecked the lives of some of her peers with this false accusation. I understand we don’t want to discourage people from reporting hate crimes and such, but in clear cut cases of false accusation, we have to drop the hammer.

I’m not saying her record shouldn’t be wiped once she turns 21 or something, but she deserves to be charged and carry that shame for a bit.

At 12 years old? idk bro. I mean I could see something but not being charge with a hate crime. Had this been real I would not have even wanted those boys charged with a hate crime, maybe assault.

false reporting, accusation, whatever that is. i didnt say hate crime, although i'd say its pretty hateful to throw white people (or anybody) under the bus over something that never happened.

like i said, some charge like fraud or something, let her walk around with that shame, then clear the record when she's 18 or 21.

And yet you attempted to link Mrs. Pence to this.

False reports are so damaging to real victims. Whether it’s rape, sexual harassment, racism, etc., it hurts everyone. I have to wonder at her age if she wasn’t influenced or encouraged by others, but it’s sad and and hurtful to people who are actually harmed.

It is.

This is hard to talk about because there are victims on both sides. And it's hard to convey that one can sympathize w/both.

Being falsely accused of a crime is devastating. I can speak of that first-hand. Even after you are cleared, your life is never the same. All I can say is that I hope no one else has to endure the things I have. It's one of the main reasons I urge people to be cautious when articles are posted on here about "alleged" crimes.

On the other hand, most of us know that there are countless victims who never report what happened to them because of all the public scrutiny they will undoubtedly face. My wife was molested as a child and she never reported it. I know the pain and suffering that that event has caused her. Do you realize how awful it is to take away "trust" from a person?

I have no answers or no profound proclamations or words of wisdom. I just know that there are many losers on both sides of real predatory acts and false claims. There are untold numbers of people who have their lives ruined due to both. Of course, more people are victims of actual crimes than false claims and I don't want to give the impression that I am saying otherwise, but damn Jules, it's a truly tragic subject.

And I wish I could articulate my thoughts better because the emotion is pretty raw right now, but I feel inept in trying to explain what I am feeling.

I'm torn on this part Vers... She's only in the 6th grade and somebody put the idea in her head that fabricating this victim story to initiate some race controversy (or maybe just some personal sympathy) was a good idea.. if not her family, then who?

Understand, I'm not suggesting they TOLD her to do it, but somewhere along the line she developed the notion that this was necessary... and I have a hard time believing her family wasn't a part of that.

That could be the case, but they seem genuinely apologetic. Kids that age spend a lot of time on the internet and there is a lot of talk about "hate crimes." Perhaps that is where she got the idea?

She was probably influenced by a number of factors.. and perhaps it's just me thinking of my own kids at that age.. if they felt the need to create such a lie and place blame on other classmates, I would have been doing a lot of soul-searching to figure out what I said, what I did, why I didn't see the signs of them becoming this desperate, etc.. I think that's only natural as a parent.

Stop making excuses for this kid. She tried to ruin 3 kids lives because they're white. She was probably just shooting for her 15 minutes of fame as the libs next poor picked on media darling.

She probably got the idea from watching all the attention the parade of other fakers that got theirs before they got caught, and knew there would be no consequences, as there have been none for the others.

I have no idea what her reasoning or motivation was, and neither do you, but I agree with Pit... she's 12.

What she did (or tried to do) was horrible with long lasting implications for other people's lives. She needs to be made to understand that.. but I'm not about ruining the life of a 12 year old over a stupid mistake.

I said concequences. I didn't call for her execution. A 1000+ word essay with footnotes on people falsely accused of crimes and how it ruined their lives for 50% of her grade this year would be good with me, as long as she reveals where she got the idea from.

I do agree that they need to find out the motivation and where the idea came from.. it seems like a desperate cry for attention but that could be for a variety of reasons..

I'm not opposed to the 1000 word essay of that nature, there have been quite a few cases she could look into lately.

I wouldn't make it part of her grade though, she should be graded like everybody else... this should be in addition to.

50% Consequences for trying to ruin the lives of her classmates. That way it will actually be a good report, and she might learn something.

It's going to keep getting worse.

These misguided people see life as a 'zero-sum, win/lose' war. That mind set is too simple, basic and binary to NOT be found in every strata of society. Top to bottom, lots of people live lives of strict ideological simplicity. It provides structure and order for them in a world of chaos, shades of gray, and randomness.

And Dawg- don't think that this phenomenon is limited to just racist radicals. Some truly crazy left folks are out there, too. And religulous zealots, as well. It's a pretty common Human trait.

The closer to The Melanin Tipping Point America gets, the more spectacular and extreme they will become. They will exhibit all the behaviors of a trapped and mortally threatened animal. All because they see people like Swish and Clem as invading enemies. Two everyday American dudes just trying to live life.
The Enemy.

Every time I spend a moment on this reality, it makes me sad.

Because my life has been so very different than that. Just like yours. I'm sad because they will never know what we've learned by not seeing life in binary terms.

It has never been safe to be us at any time in this country's history. I worry about your family. People who have loved me have worried about my family, as well. We are safe around the vast majority of citizens we live with, but dangerous ones are numerous enough- and are peppered among us everywhere.

I still remember how sad My Mother was my first day of Kindergarten, when I came home from school, and asked her what 'colored' was. That moment is etched upon my soul, because My Mom always brought The Happy. Hugs, songs, laughter, good cooking, you name it. 'Colored' made her sad in a way I had never seen. I was ashamed that I had said something that effected My Mother so deeply and so painfully. I tried to apologize- and it just made it worse.

It was years before I could make sense of that day.

I'm sad because enough of those people still exist that Your Family must carry this extra burden, as well.

Maybe when your girls are grandmas.
Dare to dream.

Don't worry. At some point, all the interbreeding, we are all gonna wind up the same color anyway. Then the drama will end.

It won't make the next 30-50 years any safer for folks like me.

Not as long as there are people out there who see This American Life like Swish's ex-cop turned domestic terrorist.

And in the meantime we just have to deal with it.

Neanderthal-derived DNA was found in the genome of contemporary populations in Europe and Asia. It accounted for 1–4% of modern genomes,

40,000-60,000 years ago and we still have cavemen like trump walking around dragging his knuckles and throwing poop.

Just from a historical and anthropological perspective, Neanderthals were not the knuckle dragging cave men you're making them out to be. That is an early failure of 'science' that used speculation and their belief in their own superiority. Kind of the same attitude as a nazi believing nonarians were sub human.

They were more robustly built than humans, and better adapted to cold. They had far more muscle mass, and needed a high protein diet. They also had larger brains, buried their dead, cared for their sick, elderly, and injured, and made equal tools to humans at that time, including some musical instruments. They were not club wielding, hair pulling, knuckle draggers .

Genetically flawed yes but not dead, they’re still in our dna. We’re all flawed.

I wonder if people actually say such things when they are out and about in every day life or is it just something one says behind their keyboards?

I don't know about you Vers, but I generally say what's on my mind. I will watch my language in front of small children and others I know to be sensitive to those things, but I say what and how I feel in no uncertain terms 90% of the time. The other 10%, if I think something is unduly mean or hurtful, I might lighten up a little or say nothing at all.

Saying something like you quoted would not bother me at all, except I rarely say 'poop'.
