I LOVE rowdy fans,, I love fans that shout and yell and scream at the top of thier lungs to cheer on thier team,, I really do,,
I'm sick of the kind of thinking that says you can do anything you want to do when your drunk and there is no penality for your actions!
BF2119, I'm not sure if it occured to you, but next time that happens, call the cops,, get the SOB's arrested and thrown out of the parking lot. Have thier tickets confiscated. Make it so they cannot get to see the game and that they lose all that money they spent..
These are the kinda idiots that ruin everything for everyone else and if you let them do it, and get away with it, they will continue until someone get seriously hurt.. That's not something anyone with a Brain wants to see.
So, don't feel as if you are being a Tattle Tale,, It's for the safety of all those around them that they be removed..
Again, I love rowdy fans,, but this is an extreme that nobody should have to put up with.

Sadly, the return of the Browns brought a new "breed" of Browns' "fans" that makes going to a Browns game a chore instead of a fun event. The stuff that goes on during pregame tailgateing is sickening for both Browns fans and fans of the opposing team. The drunks, the foul language, the disgusting behavior has hit an all-time low. Browns fans of the past were never this repulsive.

I was wondering, what was tailgaiting was like at the muni lot, circa '85-95. Same as now? More rowdy (like at the old Muni Stadium - that I do remember), less rowdy?

Shep, I pictured you as being much older, and bigger. For some reason, I always thought of you as a big old Polish guy. After looking at your picture, I was way off.

Since you remember Muni, do you recall any tailgating? Or are you still basking in the glory that is Shep's picture?

My first Browns game was in 1983 when I was five years old. I was at "The Drive"- I was in third grade. I was also there one week before "The Drive" when the Browns scored 10 points within the last 2 minutes of the fourth quarter and eventually beat the New York Jets in double overtime.-Greatest Browns game ever. I was there several times in 1994 - (11th grade) when the browns went 12-4. I'm sorry, but I don't remember tailgaiting ever being the phenomenon that it is today. During the 80's we would park at Stouffers -(the lot is still there, but I don't know what the building is called now) and walk right to the game. Any tailgaiting we did was usually at John Q's Steakhouse -which is still there right next to the Keybank tower. I'll tell you this though. During the 1992 season (8th grade), I sat in the Dog Pound for the first time. In cas you don't remember Municipal Stadium, the old Dog Pound was separated from the rest of the Stadium by two alleyways, anyway, the Browns were playing the Eagles, and there was a bunch of Eagles fans that weren't in the Dog Pound, but, were at the section of the stadium that was closest to the Dog Pound, on the other side of the allyway. First off, nobody in the Dog Pound sat, and as the game progressed, Browns fans began to throw things at the Eagles fans. Full Beers were thrown, dog biscuits were thrown, etc. It was a rowdy, rowdy, place, and I miss it dearly. Although I didn't answer your question, I hope that helps.

In the 80s and 90s we would either park in the Muni or at Burke Airport. It was fun to walk through the lots prior to the game seeing people enjoy themselves without the fear of being verbally or physically attacked by Browns fans. Now, we never park in either of these lots. The rude, crude drunks that have taken over these lots feel they are "entitled" to act like idiots because "we've" been here since "last night" or we got here at 5:00 AM.
People had respect for each other back in the 80s and 90s. Now, if you try to walk through the lots while these idiots are busy tossing their drinks and footballs; they'll knock you down because "FU, can't you see we've got a game going". What idiots

Aint that the truth.
This one group was yelling at every car that came through to "get here earlier". They thought since they got there at 6am that they were allowed to just set up in the middle of the road and not have to move. even though the lot was FAR from full.

Well I cant speak to the tailgating to much but actually being in MUNI things were much more violent than they are now. Fights on the stands nd the concourses were a regular occurence. I worked as a vendor at Indians games and lot of the women were afrad to work Browns games because every week a couple vendors would gert beat up and rolled. Muni was not for the fant of heart. KING

Actually, it's no great secret that it was directed towards me. No biggie because it (along with 94.7% of what you post) I don't give a fat baby's ass about.
How it could possibly be construed as "name-calling" is beyond me though, and it's always funny when people attempt to make lame jokes such as that.
Quite comical!

Muni In the 80's & early 90's? About the same except it was all woods where the RTA tracks are now. I use to park over there back then. One of the reasons I parked in 99 near the Island was its close to the grassy knoll.
I saw a Denver fan get beat with the original club (steering wheel locks) Lot more boobs and ass back in the 80's. Drinking about the same and tons of weed being smoked in the open.

Thats about my recollection as well. One time I went to a Browns squealers game years back when I was in college, and in our section there were 2 squealer getting drunk.. the game had started with the squealers winning and the Browns cam back to lead by a bit, and these 2 guys had spent the whole first part of the game taunting and harrassing everyone within reach. Amazingly, no one did anything to them. Finally after awhile someone told the cops while they were on the concourse getting another beer. As they were walking back up the stairs to their seats and mouthing off to everyone and actually hitting a few people on their way... 2 of Clevelands finest followed them up the stairs (unknown to them) the closest one was a female cop and she tapped the guy on his shoulder and without turning around to see who it was he reached back and shoved her back down the stairs.. her partner was man mountain HUGE and he got good and pissed.. lets just say that he didn't take him down and arrest him none too gently.. the whole section was cheering LOL..

Sorry, got late, classes started today, but anyways...worst spot I have evr gone to or tailgated for a football game... Ann Arbor, Michigan November 19, 2005 The year before I attended the Michigan game at Ohio Stadium when we were the underdogs and we went on to soundly defeat them. The intensity of that game was unreal, it was my freshman year and my true first taste of the rivalry. I decided then and there at some point in college I would go to Michigan when we played them. The following year appeared to be my best chance. We were playing for a share of the Big Ten title and I had money saved up from the Texas game earlier in the year (I sold my ticket to the game for $375, it turned out to be a good move). Through a "family connection", I was able to buy a ticket to the game (along with three of my friends so 4 tickets) for $1800, but it was in the section of my fellow OSU fans. We reserved a hotel (20 miles outside Ann Arbor) and we left late Friday. Got to the hotel and decided just to stay in and drink (plenty of shennanigans, another story). Apparently I was the only one who didn't wake up with a hangover. So we made arragnements where we would drink at one of our buddy Matt's house on campus (one of our friends went to high school with him). We have a few beers that morning then we were off. We drive into the campus area early to find a parking spot. Everyones wearin their jerseys except me, Tressel gear once again. Place is packed even though we got there a little early. Find a good spot to park at a students house for $15. We pull up, sees we're OSU fans and it becomes $30. We pay because its pretty close and we're not sure if we're gonna have to leave quickly. Well while we're parked payin the guy, a student runs up to the car and yanks the OSU flag off the car we had on the window. Runs back to his house about 1/2 a block away where we see he's lighting it on fire. I expected as much and had seen the same thing here for the game so I apologized to my dude for his flag and we got out. Now lt me say this much, wearin OSU gear is bad. But wearing a Tressel vest and dressin like the coach only increases it 10 fold. I swear, you'd have thought that Tressel raped these ppl's parents or something. Im out of the car for 7 seconds before the verbal tirade begins. We parked across from a frat, who could see we were OSU fans but they could especially see that I was dressed like the coach. Now this is my first time actually going someplace else for a game, and being Michigan I knew it was gonna be bad. But just the sight of me made these guys wanna beat the crap out of me. So we call up Matt and get directions. Hes 14 blocks from where we parked. So we start walking and everyone is pregaming, drinking. And everyone is also outside. We figure 4 of us would be enough of a group to wade off violence at least this early for a couple blocks. 2 blocks in we get our first beer can throw at us. Every house we past is giving us hell. And I mean givin it to us, I was taking the most of it. Another block later we run into about 5 other Buckeye fans who are going the same way we are. Only they are already in bad shape. They were from Lansing and it was 2 grandparents, their 35 year old son, his wife, and their 12 year old kid. They thought that'd they would be ok since there son was with them, but thus far they also had gone through the verbal tirade and the grandmother had gotten a beer poured on her. Apparently it was by someguy at a frat house with the last letter looking like a trident. So we agreed to walk with them considering the more of us, the more likely we would just take verbal abuse. After another block it was also decided it was best i blend in the middle rather than get noticed. We walked with em for another 3 blocks, got to know em a little, then they had to turn so we wished em well, gave a "GO BUCKS", and continued on our own. Another block later things got real interesting. We could see the guy standin on his lawn close to the sidewalk yellin go blue and givin OSU fans a mouthful when they walked by. When i got close he put his full attention on me. When I reached him all I really allowed myself to hear was one of his friends on the porch yell "do it!" They guy then grabs my hat and throws it into the street. While I run out to get it, my friend Andy decides to do the same and quickly takes the Michigan guys hat and chucks it the other way. Now they are face to face yellin gettin ready to throw down. Me bein the peacekeeper I am try to separate them. A few of the guys friends had come down as well. Apparently the last thing this guy wanted was Tressel to touch him. One of the guys friends on the porch as lighter fluid and is yellin to burn my hat. Just as that is happening, one of the guys that came down has a cup of beer and i can see him getting ready to pour it over my head. I swat the cup out of his hand (he was raising it over my head) and the beer gets all over the other two guys down there. The one who started it is extemely mad and goes to take my hat again. I move back and in a knee jerk reaction i try to swat his hand away, but miss and end up semi- B%*#$-slapping him. Now these three guys are ready to kill me. I figure a fight between all of us is inevitable but low and behold their neighbors run over and pulls them away. And tell them to chill. By some sort of miracle, there neighbors are Robert and Scott, two dudes I went to high school with. They calm them down, tell them they know us and we're cool. Then the guys yell a few more things before goin away. Robert and Scott told us they were actually gettin ready to help the Michigan guys until they recognized me. We have a beer with them and then we see a group of around 15 buckeye fans walking down the street in the direction we need to go. Figuring this is our best shot we ask to join em and go along. I also get my first positive comments on my outfit. Turns out most of them are parents and students at OSU. Surprisingly they walked all the way in our direction until we had to turn down his street. We got the verbal abuse but nothing besides that. We get to the dude Matt's house and he's got a decent sized kegger goin. And btw, Matt is big. Im talkin looks like he could be playin linebacker...in the NFL big. Even his jersey looked a little tight on him. Anyways we get the usual jive from the Michigan people there but theres a few OSU ppl as well. Everyone seems to have a comment about my outfit, love it or hate it. So he's got plenty of kegs and we're drinkin and yellin O-H to any buckeyes that pass by up until the time we leave for the game. We fill up our flasks with Jager and Jack and head out. We got a caravan of about 25 people including about 9 OSU fans. On the way there I'm still gettin yelled at, but Matt seems to know everyone or everyone knows who he is. We get to the stadium about 30 mins before kickoff. Now maybe it was just me, but the Big House didn't look that big. It seemed like Ohio Stadium held more ppl, but maybe thats just because everyone sort of blended in with yellow and blue rather than red im use to seeing. So we separate from the caravan and make our way to our seats. Now while we are sitting in the OSU fan section, our seats were right on the end next to the rest of the Michigan fans. Needless to say verbal abuse didnt stop. Thankfully we were sittin next to hot 30 year old alumi girls (with their husbands though ) Game gets ready, OSU comes out to massive boos, UM the opposite. Now the game is under way. Almost halfway through the first quarter OSU scores first. Troy Smith runs it in himself on what I think was an option. Hi fives and hugs around my OSU bretheran (and hot 30 yr old wives). Michigan guys next to us shut up. We miss the extra point. You would have thought that we had just missed the game winning field goal as we are getting an earful from the Michigan crowd. We continue goin at it back and forth with scoreboard chants. Michigan starts driving and gets to the 30 but it becomes 4th and 1. They turnover on downs after an incomplete pass. We rub it in and they yell pass interference. They are shut up again after a sick stiff arm by Pittman a few plays later. We drive for a field goal making it 9-0 and a 2 score game, which we point out to the michigan fans again. More hi-fives and hugs. Next Michigan drive they get stuffed and go 3 and out. However they are the next to score a touchdown. 9-7. More jive from Michigan. OSU drives before the half and get to 3rd and goal. They have to kick a field goal though. 12-7 going into the half. We yell we scored, they yell they held us. At halftime we bust out the flasks and consume what we got in our extremely overpriced sodas. We thought we were big by sneakin flasks in, but one of the girls husbands managed to get a bottle of crown royal in under his coat. Also brought a shot glass. He shares with us all and the Michigan guys are sarcastically threatening to call security. Needless to say as the 3rd quarter starts, man I'm gettin a little slammed. Michigan scores next with a field goal. 12-10. A buckeye turnover in their own territory and its 12-18 Michigan going into the 4th. Almost 1/2 way through the 4th and Michigan puts up another field goal. 12-21. We are quiet as the Michigan guys just rub it in. I mean we couldn't say anything, our offense just looked bad, we'd drive then turn it over. Going to Michigan and losing was something I did not want to experience. 7 minutes to go, 3rd and 10 and we're on Michigan's 40. Troy Smith scrambles and when it looks like hes gonna run out of bounds he cuts back inside and gets the yardage needed for a 1st. A few plays later and its a 26 yard TD pass to Holmes. 19-21. We're back in the game and all we need now is a defensive stop. Still plenty of time. Michigan drives but doesn't score, they punt and we got the ball with just over 4 minutes but we start at the 12. Slowly but surely we keep driving. And I mean very slowly. With 2 minutes to go we are down to Michigan's 40. With a minute to go we're to the 30. We're in field goal range but still pretty far. Clock is running, next play it looks like Smith is going to run, then it looks like hes gettin sacked (Michigan fans going nuts), next thing I know hes goin down field and Gonzalez grabs it at the 3. You talk about us exploding the Michigan being silenced. It was a weird feeling because you could tell that even though the section we were in was going nuts, the rest of the stadium was dead silent. Next play, Pittman TD, hi fives hugs galore. Anyone wearin red sittin next to you. Michigan intercepts the 2 pt conversion but the fans around us are still silent. Michigan gets the ball out of timeouts. They throw one pass and the dude cant get out of bounds, clock runs out. We win. We go nuts, we're so loud we can't even hear the Michigan guys yellin at us, oh wait, they weren't, they just walked out in silence. As we started to exit, thats when we realized the kind of trouble we were in. We could hear some of the guys plotting to pummel us when we left. Apparently we weren't the only ones. A very large group of OSU fans were waiting by the exit, actually gathering ppl to walk with to make it easier. We left with at least 40 people. We were still glad we'd won and weren't paying attention to the Michigan fans around. However most of the group didn't want to venture into the student living area and didn't have to, so we were on our own. Now its not very eventful goin back, I mean Michigan fans are silent as were goin by. We get about 2 blocks from Matt's house when I (also drunk) decide I need to celebrate, I need to rub it in. I have been taking crap from Michigan people all day, this is probably the only time I will be here, I decide to be brave and stupid. I take off my hat and give it to my friends to hold and told them I'd meet them at Matt's. I then start jogging down the sidewalk yelling "O-H" at first. I get a few distant "I-O's" but now I'm coming up to rows of houses with people on the lawn. I start yellin "Go Bucks", then the people start throwin stuff at me. Beer mostly. I'm a block away and now I'm really brave. Im still shoutin the prases of OSU, but now it was time to degrade Michigan I start yellin "$%*^ Michigan!" and "Michigan Sucks" and "Tressel OWNS YOU". Now I' have never experienced a loss to Michigan in school but I imagine it sucks and would be furious if he was doin that in C-bus. But these ppl heard me and saw me coming and they were ready. For a 1/2 block everyone was down by the sidewalk, beer in hand, pourin it throwin it, trying to spit on me, a few tried to swing at me. It was a straight gauntlet. By now im in full sprint mode. Im still yellin but Im payin the price. The people at Matt's house were even ready to douse and pummel me until they realized it was me. I was soaked and didnt notice a cut on my head from something that hit me. But if I had to do it over again, I would. Luckily I brought a change of clothes but they were in the car and I wasn't about to go Gauntlet Round 2. Andy went and got them and I guess the dude who tore our flag off earlier actually did us a favor. Apparently and car displaying OSU gear was being vandalized according to what Andy saw. I showered, changed and hit the bars up with Matt, still rockin my OSU hat. Even then ppl still wanted to kill me, if I'd wore the vest to the bars, I surely would be dead. Good drunk night, might have done something I regretted (in rivalry terms), but we drove to the hotel the next morning, packed, and headed back for C-bus. The trip itself cost 2 cuts, 6 distinguishing bruises, a beer bath, and enough verbal abuse to put any normal man in therapy for years. I'd highly reccomend it to those diehard buckeyes.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.
