Just like last year, the Browns are not in HD this year. We might see them 2 or 3 times in HD, but more times than not, we get Standard Def.

Does anyone on this board know why this is? I called Direct TV and they direct me to CBS. CBS directs me back to DirectTV. I finally find on CBS's website their NFL schedule and sure enough, this week AND next week we aren't getting the Brownies in HD.

CBS apparently does not like the Browns. But I really would like to have a legit reason for this.

The reason is simple - CBS does not put a lot of weight on the Browns games and doesn't/won't invest the money into broadcasting the games in HD. It obviously costs them more money to run the games in HD and for a team that hasn't done much in years and years, it doesn't make business sense I guess. And if I was a CBS exec that didn't care about the Browns, I would think the same thing - why invest time and money into a limited market with an anemic team?

CBS did upgrade this year, but they're not 100% in HD yet. FOX isn't either. I believe their limit is 6 games as well so if they go over, one game is in FOX widescreen, not HD. Hopefully both are 100% HD next year.

BTW, I dropped Super Fan this year. I think it's a waste of money even if your team is in HD. They gave it to me free for the last two years and that's about what it's worth.

Aldamon,
I was wondering if it was worth it also because other than the ability to watch several games at once, and the HD games, is the rest of the package really worth it for the extra money you have to pay?

The only "feature" of Super Fan that interested me was the HD. The rest of it is fluff unless you're a fantasy football guy. I'm not.

By next year the NFL requires all games be HD.

Anyone notice on highlight reels the difference in quality between everyone else's highlights and ours. That's the HD difference.

But being that only like 2 or 3 games a week are not in HD, once byeweeks start we should have a better shot at HD games.

CBS to offer more HD NFL, all games in HD by 2008

Posted May 7th 2007 10:16AM by Darren Murph
Filed under: Industry, CBS, OTA, Sports

When glancing through last year's HD NFL schedule, there were still quite a few games that sadly didn't get the HD treatment it rightfully deserved, but in news that's sure to make those who just endured the painstaking NFL Draft a bit more jovial, that won't be the case in 2007 (or beyond). According to a snippet at SignOnSanDiego, CBS will reportedly be offering up "five or six games per week this season in high-definition, up from three a year ago." Additionally, the NFL has also declared that "all games must be shown in HD starting in 2008," which means that you can finally stop biting your nails about whether your team's matchup will be shot in HD. Four months and counting, folks.

Yeah. Hopefully it won't be part of a special package any more.

it will have no affect on packages. But what it does do is provide HDTV for everyone.

It really sucks to pay for the superfan and then only get 1 or 2 games a year in HD. Kind of defeats the purpose.

DC, love those commercials. That old dude cracks me up. I especially love the one about "What am I going to read on the john on Monday" commercial.

I guess CBS just needs to realize that we have more fans nationwide than 1/2 the other teams in the NFL and we should get the Browns in HighDef.

Petition anyone???

I'll take the Sunday Night games, but as long as ESPN is running it, I want no part of Monday Night Football ever again. They've turned it into a crappy talk show with a football backrop... they only seem to cut to the actual game when they get tired of looking at themeselves.

I'd be perfectly content never seeing the Browns on MNF, so that I can actually enjoy all of their games.

Browns is the Browns

... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Man, is it me, or did Charles Barclay seem like a big doof??

Did they even discuss football?

Heck yeah, if we could at least get a MNF game or a SNF game we'd get one more HD opportunity.

God tell me about it. I like PTI...at 5:30 PM, not at halftime of MNF.

It's become a circus like everything else ESPN has become, catering to the 15 year old sports fan, just like MTV with music.

I honestly wonder sometimes if ESPN has a lot to do with the surge in popularity for the Yankees and Red Sox.

It is irritating for sure.

That and the upgrade to get HD for NFL Sunday Ticket for Direct TV.

Last Sunday I called and complained about the quality of the reception. To me, I think that they are actually degrading the reception on the regular NFL channels to get people to switch.

Normally have to look closely to spot 480i versus 1080i on DirectTV, Sometimes I flip just to tell the differnces. (for me, on normal network, I get the same broadcast on 2 channels, one is HD the other is regular)

The regular NFL regular TV channels look like crap.

We have CBS's worst announcers. They went on about all the misfortunes of Cincinati and then gave the Browns misfortunes. Neither had a clue, just two bozos that could talk.

Yeah, did the screen keep changing colors on you? It happened in every game I watched in SD last week.

J/k

If you call Directv and tell the automated message your reason for calling is to cancel your service they will give you the Superfan package for free.

I did it just about 2 weeks ago. I ended up getting the NFL ticket, the Super Fan and all of the movie Channels free for the next 4 months.

It won't get you anymore Browns games in HD than you would normally have but at least you wont have to pay for it.
