link CLEVELAND (TICKER) -- The Cleveland Browns on Tuesday signed veteran punter Scott Player. In a corresponding move, Cleveland released punter Paul Ernster. Player is a nine-year veteran, who played in 140 career games with the Arizona Cardinals. He has punted 714 times for a 43.1 career average, with 179 of his boots being downed inside the 20-yard line. The 6-1, 211-pound Player, who was originally signed by Arizona as an undrafted free agent in 1996, also has a net punting average of 35.7

Should've done this in the first place.
At least now we can feel confident letting Zastudil rest.

hope this doesn't mean Z hurt his back more severly. He was grabbing his oblique after he kicked that 2nd punt.

I wonder if Zastudils health factored into the decision of going for that 4th and 1 around the 50?

He's probably hurt enough that we were going to have to play our backup punter this week, which is why we made this move. No one wanted to see Ernster again and Player is a legitimate boot, even if he is a vested veteran that we only need for a few weeks.

I don't know if I like this move, this guy spent alot of time in Arizona, I'm surprised he can still walk with the workout they gave him.

Never thought of that when it took place, I just thought Cennel really thought the O could pool through.
At least we have some insurance at the punt game, hate to see another Pitt repeat.

I think if RAC didn't think we could get the first down, and Z didnt think he could do it; he would have went to Dawson to pooch in a punt.

OK I saw your post last week so don't yell at me But I READ somewhere back when we were in "ernst" that even if we signed a guy for 1 week we have to pay a prorated salary for yr and I'm guessing that Gardocki's Million $ paycheck the past 5-6 years had something to do w/ it......just guessing

They should've signed Gardocki.Didn't they have him in camp before the Steelers game? He would have been a better fit.

One of the strong areas of our game today....he sure looks old school with that single bar facemask.

The only good player on the field today. Player for QB I bet you he could kick it closer to receivers that Anderson throws it.

Yeah, I noticed he had better hands than Ernster. He actually punted pretty well. As bad as our D played, we still could have won the game. At least we didn't let some guy who just joined the team screw it up. Nice job, Player.

Now I can sleep tonight.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...
