... Micro fracture + another year off his bike accident.

The biggest reason, the offense...

They finally use him down field, most of his catches have been for about 20 yards.

He looks much smoother in his cuts, better in his blocking, but hell... He still has perfect form catching the ball

True, this offense is perfect for Winslow, but you need to add quarterback to your list. Frye does not have the arm strength to hit the deep middle passes. DA does. When Frye was in, the patterns were more slants quick outs, screens, dump offs.... With DA, the deep ball became a possibility.

And, no I'm not a DA fan...at all. But his abilities allow different parts of the offense to open up.

Watch out...CoachB's gonna grill you for saying that...

Whatever happened to all the haters that wanted him traded before last season? Seemed to be about half the boards wanted him gone.

I know a decent amount about football, but I am no expert. So I have a question for those of you who are experts. When healthy who do you think is the better tight end or has the potential to be better, Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzalez, KW2, or Vernon Davis? I am particularly interested to see what you guys think about Winslow Vs. Davis.

Winslow has a tight end mentality...

He has NO soft spot when it comes to football, he plays with pure emotion.

Mix that with the fact that he has probably the best hands for a tight end I've ever seen, he can take hits and catch the ball, break tackles, and can run pretty well.

I think he is the best tight end in the league (OBVIOUSLY a little bias) this year he puts up over 1,000 yards and 8 touchdowns.

I am definatley a homer but i'll do my best being unbiased. The 3 main things that stick out with with Winslow is:

1. He makes near perfect catches even on balls that look uncatchable, that quality cannot be coached thats natural ability.

2. He is a very intense player, plays with heart and will give you everything he's got.

3. He has very fluid body control and is fast for a TE at making cuts making it easier to keep DB's and LB's off of him so he can make a play and find a gap in the coverage.

Winslow is more comparable to Shannon Sharpe than Gonzalez, Davis and Gates if your looking to draw comparisons.

I'm surprised you even brought Davis into the discussion as he hasn't done anything as a pro yet.

I personally think the 9ers reached on that one, but only time will tell.

I think Winslow is the 3rd best TE in the league after Gonzalez and Gates. People seem to want to annoint him as the best TE, but longevity and consistency has to be a part of the equation. The other guys have been doing it better longer.

But I suspect in a couple years time, many will consider Winslow the best in the league.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

I brought Davis into it as to how good he could be in the future. I would never put him in the same class as the other three yet.
