Just got the MRI report on my MyChart app.

Torn left Supraspinatus Tendon, and "Signal within the bone marrow of the distal clavicle appears to be abnormal, there are findings to suggest degenerative changes. There is extensive susceptibility artifact suggesting prior surgical changes." (I have had surgery on my right shoulder and left knee, but not my left shoulder)

I see the surgeon on Friday. Yippee. The good thing is that he also did my left knee, and I recovered very quickly from that surgery.

That sucks bro. Hopefully it's a successful surgery and quick recovery. Take it easy on the right shoulder while the left is healing!

Degenerative issues suck. I know all about that.

sorry to hear that. I tore mine about 8 months ago, I like my doctor, they are no nonsense where I go.

Says to me "well, you have two options. You can go to physical therapy, which will delay you needing surgery, and would be 3x a week during your work hours where you cant get there, or you can just wait until you cant take the pain anymore and schedule surgery then".

Still waiting. I am right handed, its my left shoulder. I am still able to bowl since I am right handed, and was able to golf with little pain - so until it gets bad ill live with it.

I need the right one replaced. Left one aches from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.
I hear replacement is a tough recovery but everyone has said it was worth it.

My doctor told me (before the MRI) that it depends on what is torn, and how badly. I'll find out all of those details Friday.

Just saw the surgeon and scheduled this procedure for later this month. He has to open the shoulder, take out some bone that is intruding into the joint, and then sew the muscle or tendon (I can't remember which) back together. Looks like at least 8 weeks of post op therapy. Fun. Fun. Fun.

Wife just went through it.. She had what I would consider the best surgeon for this surgery.

Well you didn't go blind, but you screwed up your shoulder. Stop playing with it

The surgeon who did my knee a little while back is doing my shoulder. He's old school in a lot of ways, and he is really very good. He is my family doctor's surgeon, so that counts a lot for me. This is one that requires the shoulder to be opened, because they have to take out "abnormal bone growth", and sew the muscle back together ... so no arthroscope for me, unfortunately.

The older we get, the more things go wrong. Hang tough YTown...

It looks like your dreams of being a big league pitcher are over.

Well .. with rehab, I'm sure that they'll be knocking down my door by my next birthday in April. After all, who wouldn't want a 57 year old pitcher with a bad back?

The Indians have a pretty tight budget so maybe you still have a chance.

Well, I wish you the best of luck,, The wife had, what her doctor termed, a bad tear.. One that would cause her unmentionable pain during recovery... Many folks had told her the pain would be severe...

She gets the surgery and had literally, NO PAIN.... I wish for the same for you..

Ytown is out of surgery. Everything went fine. He is in recovery right now. I'm sitting here eating with a charming wonderful young lady. His mom 😎

My mom told me that the tear was somewhere between 2.5 and 3 inches. I hope she was exaggerating. If not, this is going to be a long recovery.

It's a long recovery, anyway. Do it diligently; don't rush ANYTHING. Don't try to do more than they tell you to.

Glad it went well... be diligent and patient and you'll be literally as good as new.

Clarified with my doctor today, and there is a 3.5" incision on top of my shoulder. The tear in the tendon was about 1.5".

I have been doing my exercises ..... letting my arm hang by my side for a little while at a time.

So how did eating breakfast one handed go yesterday?

My dog was very happy.

Saw the surgeon today, and got the staples out. He is pleased with where I'm at. 10 more days or so and I can start PT. He said it was a pretty severe tear, so if I feel any sharp pain, to back off whatever I'm doing, and to do nothing over my head.

Guess I have to cancel the volleyball tournament now. lol
