Browns cut safety Whitehead after social media posts Print By Kevin Patra Around the NFL Writer Published: Nov. 4, 2019 at 09:09 a.m. Updated: Nov. 4, 2019 at 09:15 a.m. The Cleveland Browns are done with Jermaine Whitehead. The team announced they've waived the 26-year-old safety, who started all eight games this season. The move came after Whitehead had a disastrous day in the Browns 24-19 loss to the Denver Broncos. Playing with a brace on his left hand due to a broken appendage, Whitehead missed several key tackles in the loss. After the defeat, Whitehead went on the attack on social media with several threatening messages for people who criticized him. The tirade, which got his Twitter account suspended, prompted a message from the Browns last night. "Jermaine Whitehead's social media posts following today's game were totally unacceptable and highly inappropriate," the team wrote, via Andrew Gribble of the team's official website. "We immediately spoke with Jermaine upon learning of these comments. The Browns in no way condone that type of language or behavior. This matter will be further addressed internally." On Monday, they addressed the matter publicly by waiving the starter. It's fair to wonder if Whitehead's release will be the only example set by the disappointing Browns squad. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001...ial-media-posts

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Some of us don't speak French.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

If we were down to one safety and he really was playing with a broken hand, I can give him credit for the effort and almost understand the missed tackles..
But this is life lesson #1 in why you don't get on social media when you are in that kind of mood.

He Tweeted bad things out of emotional anger and is let go...Then there are players still on teams that actually hit kicked and verbally abused someone.
Does this have signs of player performance ?.. If he was a star Safety would he have been let go ? I don't know...sure makes me think though.

The dude threatened somebody’s life while adding a racial slur to it.
It’s a no brainer. I can’t speak for other cases cause that’s on those teams. I’m glad THIS team did the right thing.

I'm cool with with what the Browns did... I just wondered if he didn't miss tackles and was a stud if there may have been a suspension instead of a release...

and he paid the price by losing his job, income for that season and most of this season, as well as a massive payday that was coming his way.
whitehead might sure enough find another team that will sign him. thats fine. but he needed to suffer the consequences of what he did on THIS team.

If he wouldn't have whiffed on so many tackles, this subject wouldn't have even come up.

He tried to shoulder tackle a tight end who had at least 40 pounds on him, who also had a head of steam.
he's not smart, so goodbye.

He tried to shoulder tackle a tight end who had at least 40 pounds on him, who also had a head of steam. This. Some are giving him a pass because of the broken hand. The way I see it, if an injury will cause you to play at a level where you will hurt the team, then do not play. It's a team game and a W is more important than your pride. Him not even trying to use his arms on a tackle helped Den get two TDs. He was like a pinball out there. His PFF score is probably so low it will register as points for Denver.

Exactly .. if he was really that injured he should be out. He cost us big time (and IIRC he cost us against LAR as well)

I just realized my comments may have put me on his list. There was a funny tweet Sunday night. Couldn't find it when I went back. Basically said: "Anybody worried that Whithead might kill you, just remember to run at an angle"

whitehead has been going for the knockout hit and whiffing on tackles all season long, I even mentioned it a few games ago that I thought he needed cut then.

As far as if he was a stud would he have been released.. I don't know, he's not a stud but we are pretty darn thin at safety so to even let an average one go is a big step. I just wish the coaching staff would start treating the players who are ON THE FIELD the same way... do something stupid, take a seat for a while.

That's why we're shuffling our OLine. I'm pretty sure that's why Higgins hasn't been seeing much time. and the response has been "that's stupid, why would you do that?!" No Good Deed Go Unpunished.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

I think we sent a message. Everybody has a right to free expression; I understand. They also have reality as consequences for that belief. I don't feel good about what he said. I don't feel bad for the consequences. He got to stand for his beliefs. No immunity is promised.
Next man up.

sorry to see him go the way he did.
not a game changer many light LB in college, great ones that can become a SS. They cover and can attack.

I didn't have an issue with his play. But this was big and unacceptable. Do you grow beyond this? Media never forgets.
