Does anyone find it a little strange that Norv Turner took Marty's 14-2 team to a 1-2 record.I know its a little early in the season but maybe there is something to this Coaching Thing.

Norv turner is a great coordinator which doesnt have a damn thing to do with being a great head coach. Sounds familiar doesnt it.
San Diego gets what they deserve for the way they did Marty. Trading out a good hc for a good coordinator and a bad head coach. Maybe we should trade out a good coordinator and bad head coach for a good head coach. umm bring back Marty!!!!

I do. I can't say I'm surprised that they took a step back, but I didn't expect them to look as bad as they do.

Norv Turner is a football teams nightmare.
I can't explain what the guy is doing but whatever it is it's not right.
The biggest thing wrong with the defense is none other than Wade Phillips. That guy was a great coordinator for the 3-4 who loved to get after the QB.

As I have said ... Norv Turner is the worst Head Coach in the NFL. He makes Romeo look like a genius.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Yep, you fire a guy because he "can't win the big one".... then go out and hire a guy who has never proven he can even win the little ones....

I am reminded of the quote regarding Bear Bryant ...... only for Norv it's in reverse .... "Bryant can take his and beat yours, and then he can turn around and take yours and beat his." And ..... Turner can Take his and lose to yours, or turn around and take yours and lose to his. Frankly, I don;t see how this guy keeps getting shots at these jobs.

AJ Smith didn't want a coach who would challenge him like Marty did...he's getting what he asked for, that's for sure.

I've always liked Marty, so this is bittersweet. I'm sure he's watching from afar just laughing....
Some of Marty's thoughts - * I took the Browns to the playoffs and just b/c I didn't win the big one, they dump me. Where have they been since?
* I take a great Chargers team to 14-2, but once again, I got dumped and now look at them.

jc..
I have always believed that a good coach is crucial at getting a team to the post-season, but once there, it's all in the players hands, it's 1 and done in the post-season, no room for half-ass playing, so it;s all on the players to play their best.
The best coach, the best game prep, and the best gameplan mean nothing in the post season if the players don't play at thier best.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

NOW I see what you're trying to say!
Couldn't have said it better myself. Though I would have taken more flack for it!

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

A couple of comments.
1) You can give the keys to the Ferrarri to anyone, but that does not mean that they can drive it. Norm had better learn to drive, otherwise he will be one and done.
2) I have noticed a substantial change in how the Chargers approach a team defensively. Wade went after the QB. The Chargers have 61 sacks last year versus 7 so far this year. Ted Cotrell, who replaced Wade does not seem nearly as aggresive as Wade. Give an NFL QB time, espicially those named Brady or Farve and they will hurt you. This makes the DB's look bad.
3) Offensively, the Chargers are facing the same 8 to 9 in the box as they always had. Right now they seem to be running into the box, rather than spreading the other team out. The WR's for the most part have had limited roles, Gates is a great player, but right now he is the only player.
4) Last year I rarely saw a team that could effectively stop the Chargers O. This year they appear to be very stopable. I have a hard time understanding what the difference is.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

what was freaking stupid was that if their gm had such harsh feelings for marty and was planning to give him the axe, then why did he let the entire coaching staff leave before he did

Norv Turner = Great offensive mind, in over his head as head coach. Has had great success in Dallas, Miami and S.F. Has parlayed that into Head Coaching gigs. Couldn't win with the talent he had in Washington, not a Superbowl team but still could have made the playoffs. Was a third choice in Oakland and turned into a scape goat when the team played down under it's talent level.
Marty = Great regular season coach. Has won everywhere he's been (Cleveland, K.C. and S.D.) Hasn't been that successful in the playoffs, tends to be a little too conservative despite the talent he's had at all three teams.

Yeah but you can't put hsi conservative nature on him last year. He wanted nothing to do with the play calling when they played the Pat's. He told the offensive coordinator to call his own game and not to listen to him.

Norv = loser

No Arch,I take that as a compliment. I think there are a few around here that could stand to invest in one though. There's been an awfully lot of whining around here lately. People getting their "poow wittle feewings hurt" due to TSS. (aka Thin Skin Syndrome).

Hell,at least when one of us throws a rock at the other,we know there will be rocks flying back! And would expect no less!

Something I've also noticed,is they're sending LT straight up the middle of that box too. When Marty was in charge,he would often run LT off of the left tackle using the left tackle and a TE to the left side and or the RT and TE to run him just to the right of the box. But Norv seems persistant about hunning him dead up the middle. Not working out very well.

Well if their coach is playing directly into the lap of your strong suit, rather than working to take advantage of your scheme,it's obvious that the results are greatly diminished IMO.
4WR sets and running LT the way I've mentioned above would greatly offset their oponents ability to do that. Hell, this week,LT and Rivers were yelling at each other on the sideline. It's starting to go downhill pretty fast. When the two people you're counting on to kick start your O are raising hell with each other on the sideline, things can't be well in the locker room.

how many steps did we take back since we dumped him? We have been in turmoil ever since. He must be our savior or anti christ. He has forsakin us and has made another team better instead of ours. He turned washington around also. They just dumped him too early also.
He would be a saint to come here after being fired from here. That would be a heck no if i was him.
Im a big Browns fan, i just dont see him hoping for another try at our city of cynics. I agree that i have been a cynic of alot of stuff we do i just dont think that he would come back and listen to 1 and a half years of whining untill he started to turn us around. Then he would take us to the playoffs once and we`d fire him again. He would have the best record as a browns coach exept for P Brown and be chastised.
Go Browns and hope for a better defense this next game. Marty did like the 3-4 also.
I`m good with Baker... Playoffs is good enough for me.

Keep in mind that the Chargers have played the Bears and the Patriots in the first three weeks. They will win against KC and Oakland and take hold in the division, Tomlinson can't be held down for that long.

I know one thing, at the current rate there is no doubt at all that RAC will (deservedly) outlast him and it also makes me really happy that all the folks that have pimped Norv for Head Coach here over the years have absolutely no say in what really happens.
Browns is the Browns

If RAC has finally found a way to win in the AFC North than I agree with you 100%.
I would LOVE to go 4-2 in the North...

I think you need to go back to the drawing board.
It's a combination of many things. Norv Turner being a HUGE reason. The other being the fact that these guys are the Bengals West...they have their character concerns. I can guarantee you they got cocky and overconfident and bought into their own hype in the offseason just like those soon to be 1-3 losers in Cincitucky.

I don't think that the Chargers "character concerns" are in the same category as Cincy.
They tossed most of the malcontents from last year, Kiel and Foley are gone.
They do miss Godfrey, Edwards and McCardell from a veteran perspective.

The coach could not have used those words...to much southern country in him.
He said, ""Bryant can take hisins and beat yourns, and then he can turn around and take yourns and beat hisins."

Well just like the Bengals, they bought into their own hype, got complacent and started running their mouths. I hate saying this cuz I liked the Chargers last year.
And the makeup of that team isn't able to rally around each other and win despite their coaching staff...their team makeup is the type that starts to argue with each other and cause a further meltdown.

Folks, the blame needs to be placed at those that made the decision to blow the Chargers up after a 14-2 season.
Put yourselves in the position of the players who worked their butts off for Marty then saw upper management step into the picture after a disappointing end to the season, thinking the problem was Marty.
When it became evident that Marty was on the way out, all the Chargers assistant coaches bailed out so the players not only lost their head coach but the assistants that helped the team to a 14-2 record.
Don't blame Norv Turner because he is doing the best he can. He stepped into this situation thinking he could be successful with such a talented team.
Any business or organization does better when there is stability within the organization. Because of the Chargers upper management, there is no stability within the Chargers coaching staff.
The players do not play for upper management...they play for their coaches.
Big time black eye for the Chargers upper management and ownership.
There is time for the Chargers to turn it around if Norv Turner can get the players to play for him. If Turner loses the confidence of the players, it's all over for the Chargers.

Just Clickin, Norv sucks and at least Marty knew this team and could Coach the best play out of them in regular season and get them to the playoffs, now in the playoffs is another issue, lol. Also losing other guys like Cam Cameron didnt' help either!
