33.3 million to spend

Spend 17 mil of two guards and a LT.

11.3 on two - three DT, DE

5 mil on a rb, I wouldnt mind seeing Ahman Green, Fumbler is my only draw back, 2-3 year deal, use to running in cold weather,

Drafting Adrian Peterson is becoming more realistic and taking a Guard / tackle in the 2nd & third round.

Draft AP and turn around and trade Ruben for a third rounder and grab a OL or DL

if the browns get peterson instead of a stud DL or OL (somebody like alan branch), i'll freaking drive up to berea, get drunk, and punch phil savage.

What stud OL is there worth taking besides Joe Thomas, in the 1st round around the 4-8 spots? NONE!

Alan Branch.. may be okay... but having a STUD RB changes up so many things.. and it causes defenses to play differently.. helps with play action.. and it gives the QB more time to throw the ball... examples.. Philip Rivers.. Drew Brees..

We need a running game.. and the running backs we have.. they arent going to get us 100 rushing yards a game.. Wright shows nice bursts.. he can hit the hole hard.. but i dont know if he is proven yet to be a starter.. and that injury may have messed him up even more..

[color:"white"]Defense wins championships, and for all of LT's greatness, he hasn't had a chance until their defense became dominant.

For all of LJ's greatness, he isn't sniffing the deep part of the playoffs because his team has no defense.

For all of Edge's greatness in Indy, they haven't even gotten to the Super Bowl because they haven't had a dominant defense that can stop the run.

You don't have a good defense until you can stop the run, and we can't stop the run or get to the QB on a consistent basis.

As far as play-action goes, if you don't have a line that can run block, nobody bites on play-action. It has nothing to do with the back.

Line's first, skill players second. If we take a back, WR, or QB with the 1st pick, I'll be sick.[/color]

we need much better defensive ends and somebody to replace the state of washington. we need OL too, but our D will continue to give up those 3 and longs until we get a better DL.

D wins championships. it's been proven over and over again.

One can also argue if we had a freaking running game the D wouldn't be on the field as much...we didn't completey suck as in the first few games of the season.....our D has been worn out.....we don't run the ball more than 20 times a game EVER because we CAN'T run...

If we pick ANYONE else other than OL/DL in the first round it better b a stud RB...or I will be PISSED

with a good OL, jason wright would look like a above avg back

stud RB can wait, unless LT wants to come to cleveland at a cap friendly rate.

Everybody is saying draft OL/DL line....

But what happens if we are picking 6th or 7th ( a very real possibility) and lets just say that the Cards are ahead of us and they take Joe Thomas, and then either A) Branch does not declare or B) Someone ahead of us drafts Branch.....then what?????

Do we draft a 2nd rate LT( I would say Long but he's not declaring) or DE/DT or do we draft a tweener like Gaines Adams or draft a skill position....

Let's say we are pick 3 and first two picks go:
1) Joe Thomas
2) Alan Branch

then who do we pick... ( Lets also assume that we can't trade down cause in the past 3 years we have all wanted it but it never happens for us or no one wants to pay the price)

EDIT: You can read my sig and figure out what I would do.......Toad in the past you have usually said get vaule or the best player available but if Branch and Thomas are gone do you really want to take Quinn Pitcock/ Joe Staley at pick 4-10 ???

[color:"orange"]Just clicking...Ballpeen - good info thanks

I don't think we will invest in RB in the draft unless it we gain good value pending where we end up picking in the first on Adrian or Lynch...because of the depth of the position in next year and lack of depth in this year - I don't see us getting the right value for Savage to make the pick (2nd round +) unless we are talking about an obscure 6th rounder or something that he's spotted as a Diamond in the rough thing.

Turner - he was a 5th round pick, If the Chargers give him the lowest tender that will not even blink our eye as an investment and we whould pursue him.

If they give him the higher tenders and we are talking about 1st round pick in compensation I don't think we even blink an eye at him and move on.

As for older talent in FA...its a young mans position. I wouldn't want to invest FA money in an older RB...the wear n tear is just too great for that position.

In my books it looks like Turner or Lynch (he's a stud!) regardless about next year - we get a shot at either it will be good for us. If not then Savage's propencity to draft to the strengths of a draft will more than likely have us going for one of those many who might be coming out.

I haven't read all of the most recent posts, but has anyone mentioned that Wright is on IR and Barclay has been signed off the practice squad? I wanted to see more of Barclay in preseason, but didn't due to injury. He is a very similar back to Harrison, was last years ACC Offensive POY and maybe...he can block.... I don't expect to see much of him in the next 2 games, but the kid is worth the look....

I read it... and it makes perfect sense to think that we will draft a OL this year wait and draft a RB next year

Just clicking......

I don't want a RB that's going to cost more then 3-4 million (at this point).

Look at a guy like Willie Parker.......he couldn't even get on the field at North Carolina (of all places) but put him behind a good OL and he looks like a star. Any RB with a little skill, if given holes and creases to run through, can excell at the pro level.

Dominant defensive players are what we need more then anything. Our offensive line is bad but our defensive line is even worse. When you're running a 3-4 scheme, you absolutely HAVE to have dominant trench players to really make it work. Our LB's don't have a chance because they consistently have offensive lineman getting to the second level untouched.

I would much rather have a guy like Branch and a FA DT/DE then a guy like Peterson. Guys like Branch (6'6'' 330 LBS) don't come around very often. I would even go as far as to argue they're much more rare then a franchise LT. There's maybe one guy (John Henderson - JAX) in the NFL that posesses the same combination of size, speed, motor and he's nearly unblockable at times. Branch also has a rare combination of experience at both DE and DT. He could play DE now and move inside when Ted is done. He would plug one hole now and one hole in the future.

Next years class of RB's is better then this years......if we want a RB, build an OL this (and next) season and draft a guy in 2008. A guy like Pittman could be very good behind a competent o-line and could be had (most likely) in the second round (because of his size).

Man he ran a 4.3....that alone isn't obvioulsy making him play this good...but it does help him a ton...not to mention he is quick in general not just straight speed...that helps......JASON freaking WRIGHT isn't going ot turn into willie parker if he plays for the steelers i can tell ya that much...their line isn't the greatest in the NFL...willie has skills

[color:"orange"]I just skimmed lol j/k

Halfback: Barclay - I don't see him in the competition at all for RB. Or this being a chance to audition him for Harrison or Wrights spot on our mapped out roles.

If it is an audition at all (that means if he is active come game day) we might see him return punts. I see him (and hopefully on the practice squad) being converted more to the slot WR position than RB. Note Cutt has lined up as our tailback and gotten to run the ball a couple of times. If Barclay might become a weapon it will be in space catching the ball. Or returning punts as we will have an opening.

Sorry I don't see his 180 lbs as a viable RB in the NFL but that doesn't mean I don't see value
