“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
His "reluctance" didn't seem too hard to overcome, and his calling another AG partisan seemed a bit of a pot/kettle situation. I do suppose the first attorney general to be held in criminal contempt would know a decent bit about being unfit for the job, though.
You should read the actual transcript with regards to the Federalist Society mentioned in the article. Here's a link. It's kind of thought provoking. I'd like it better if Trump weren't president.
Unfortunately (in this situation), the president chooses the AG and not the other way around. Being Trump's AG is not an enviable position in my estimation. Someone's got to do it, and I'm sure he's kept busy.
You mess with the "Bull," you get the horns. Fiercely Independent.
On Thursday, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow noted the sheer volume of editorial boards from newspapers across America calling for President Donald Trump’s impeachment and removal from office.
“The editorials that Steve Cohen introduced into the record there that Doug Collins from Georgia said he wanted to read and Steve Cohen said ‘I’d love for you to read them,’ they’re part of a tide of major newspaper editorials that have come out all of a sudden in the last few days in favor of impeachment,” said Maddow. “USA TODAY’s editorial board saying, quote, ‘Until recently we believed impeachment proceedings would be unhealthy for an already polarized nation, rather than simply leaving Trump’s fate up to voters next November. But Trump’s egregious transgressions and stonewalling in his thuggish effort to trade American arms for foreign dirt on Joe Biden resembled Richard Nixon. It’s precisely the type of misconduct the framers had in mind when they wrote impeachment into the Constitution.”
Maddow continued to show more editorials. “This is from the Washington Post editorial board, which has been critical of impeachment so far,” said Maddow. “Quote, ‘We take no pleasure in recommending the president’s impeachment and are aware of the considerable costs and risks — considerable costs and risks further dividing and inflaming our politics, turning impeachment into one more tool of partisan warfare, perhaps giving Mr. Trump unwarranted aid in his re-election effort. But the House must make its decision based on the facts and merits, setting aside unpredictable effects.'”
“Here’s the Boston Globe,” said Maddow. “Their editorial board calls President Trump’s behavior the textbook definition of corruption. ‘The evidence is that Trump’s actions are just the sort of behavior the founders had in mind when they devised the recourse for impeachment. The facts show this president has threatened the core values and integrity of our democracy. Congress has a duty to future generations to impeach him.'”
“Here’s the LA Times,” continued Maddow. “Quote, ‘It’s also highly likely that Trump will be acquitted by the Republican-controlled Senate, and that rightly or wrongly he would point to that in his re-election campaign as exoneration. But those concerns must yield to the overwhelming evidence that Trump perverted U.S. foreign policy for his own political gain. That sort of misconduct is outrageous and corrosive of democracy. It can’t be ignored by the House and it merits a full trial by the Senate on whether to remove him from office.'”
“Here’s the Philadelphia Inquirer. The editorial board there is singling out the second article against the president,” Maddow went on. “They say, quote, ‘It is the second article, the obstruction of Congress, by his unprecedented categorical and defiance of subpoenas and the members of Congress who initiated President Trump has severely disrespected his office and the document he swore to protect and uphold. Should this process end with a trial and a Senate vote to remove him from office, a prospect that seems highly unlikely, it’s not hard to imagine that he would insist that the process was invalid, and he would refuse to go. Such an act of tyranny is what the Constitution was created to protect against. That’s why this impeachment process is urgent and should move forward without delay.'”
You guys gotta stop killing your brain with the media. The media is biased left to the extreme. The media hasn't been "balanced" since the 1st term of the Bush administration a few years after 9/11.
Quote:
Researchers from Arizona State University and Texas A&M University questioned 462 financial journalists around the country. They followed up with 18 additional interviews. The journalists worked for the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Washington Post, Associated Press and a number of other newspapers.
What they found surprised them. Even the supposedly hard-nosed financial reporters were overwhelmingly liberal. Of the 462 people surveyed, 17.63% called themselves "very liberal," while 40.84% described themselves as "somewhat liberal." Media Conservatives: Endangered
When you add it up, 58.47% admit to being left of center. Along with that, another 37.12% claim to be "moderate." What about the mythic "conservative" financial journalist? In fact, a mere 0.46% of financial journalists called themselves "very conservative," while just 3.94% said they were "somewhat conservative." That's a whopping 4.4% of the total that lean right-of-center.
That's a ratio of 13 "liberals" for every one "conservative." Whatever happened to ideological diversity?
Every single article is biased against conservative and Trump and have been so from the get. They don't have a single shred of verifiable evidence at all that proves without a doubt Trump did anything wrong Yet the left controlled House and the mostly left controlled media just keeps clamoring he is guilty.
What this boils down to is the left wants to change how criminal cases work, they want to do with "beyond a reasonable doubt" and replace it with "a preponderance of rhe evidence" If you don't know what the difference is between those, it means making it as easy to convict someone of a crime as it is to sue someone in civil court.
When you sue someone, you do NOT have to prove they are guilty of anything, What preponderance of the evidence means is that the burden of proof is met if there is greater than a 50% chance that, based on all the reasonable evidence shown, plaintiff’s claims are true and defendant did in fact do the wrong that caused the damage.
I don't want to live in a country where a person, even the President of the US, can be convicted based on the preponderance of evidence criteria and not beyond reasonable doubt.
NO ONE should want to live in such a cesspoll that allows that. Those supporting impeachment of the President, even if you don't like him, are supporting just that, thats awful.
Here is what the News isn't telling you. All those people Trump ordered to ignore Congressional Subpoena to testify....Let me ask you a question, if the Police wanted to take you to the station to question you about something, would you go along with and answer there questions if you were denied the right to have your lawyer present?
See thats why Trumps people were told to refuse. The House would NOT allow these people to be questioned in the presence of their legal counsel. They were not allowed to bring their lawyer with them to advise them on what questions they can or can't answer.
Remember, The House is looking to convict these people of crimes too. Answering questions to a Congressional commitee about supposed criminal activity without being allowed to have your lawyer present, and the whole thing is recorded is stupid. They can use that recording against you in court if you say something stupid which of course is their overall plan.
Im sad for my country, because we are willing to toss out the "beyond reasonable doubt" weight of evidence to convict someone and replace it with the far less burdensome "preponderance of evidence". Once we take that step, there is no turning back, everyone will be tried in court under those terms. Thats an absolute awful idea to even think of.
I don't really like Trump either, but the looking into it, this whole thing is a shame...subpoena people to talk and refusing them the right to bring their lawyer with them, turning in an indictment based soley on the preponderance of evidence instead of clear cut evidence that can prove guilt...
God help our country...If this is allowed to go through it will be the 1st nail in the coffin of our Republic and freedom as we know...I Don't like Trump either, but this is all wrong, all wrong...
So your perception of a biased media is enough for you to ignore the crap Trump has pulled? That's like saying "Yes he did the crimes, but those lefty news outlets reporting it were just unfair because they don't like him"... I find it hard to believe you don't like Trump. That's the way he thinks and speaks.
All I hear from the right these days is how unfair we all are to conservatives and christians. It's nauseating.
these republicans talking about winning back the house.....its odd.
did they forget part of the reason the blue wave in house happened is because the people despise the president? a lot of these dems had momentum from them telling the base they were gonna investigate the president, and they got voted in.
i mean all the gop ran on investigating hillary in 2016, because even they thought hillary had the election in the bag, and the people voted them in.
its like the republicans whining about the impeachment proceedings.....a process that THEY wrote in 2015. they created the rules, then spent the entire time whining about the dems following their rules.
the president is a draft dodging, scheming, tax dodging, racist ass deadbeat of a president. his actions in Helsinki alone would justify impeachment, nevermind the ukraine crap he's apart of.
the president needs to go. i dont care if he gets impeached and the no spine GOP vote to aquit their Fuhrer. just because one party doesnt care to do the right thing doesnt mean the other should not even try.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

The problem comes down to the term "crime" and the latitude granted by executive privilege.
Has Trump made bad decisions? Yes. But, does the Constitution grant him the power to make such decisions? This is the gray area.
Has Trump done things that are wrong? I think everyone will agree that he has. As president, has he done things that are illegal? Not necessarily. It depends on your interpretation of the Constitution.
As the sole member of government "selected" by the entire country, the president is granted "priveleges" that others are not.
Is Trump a horrible person? It appears so. Is our election system flawed? It appears so. Did the Framers of the Constitution foresee the media as it exists today? Seems unlikely. Did the Framers foresee the agglomeration of businesses and concentration of financial power that exists today? I hope not. Did they foresee the intertangling of business and government that exists today?
I see more Constitutional/fundamental problems with the actions of the legislative branch than the executive branch. They are constantly trying to extend their powers.
Pseudo-political business people in the legislature are trying to run the country like it's their private corporation.
Is the wrong person president? Seems so. Is he using the tools granted him poorly? Yup. But they might be tools that a president is intended to be able to use.

Republican Group Hits Donald Trump With Scathing New Billboard Campaign
Republican Group Hits Donald Trump With Scathing New Billboard Campaign
A conservative group is targeting House Republicans with a digital billboard campaign that is heavily critical of President Donald Trump.
In the new ads, Republicans for the Rule of Law calls out Trump for prohibiting key witnesses in the Ukraine scandal from testifying in the House impeachment inquiry against him.
The ads show Trump with a finger over his mouth to indicate that he wants silence. He appears next to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former National Security Adviser John Bolton, acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, in the images.
All apart from Trump have tape placed over their mouths to keep them from speaking.
“What Is Trump Hiding?” ask the ads, which will be placed in the congressional districts of House Republicans, including Reps. Greg Walden (Ore.), Mac Thornberry (Texas), Fred Upton (Mich.) Brian Fitzpatrick (Penn.), Adam Kinzinger (Ill.) John Katko (N.Y.) and Martha Roby (Ala.).
House Democrats unveiled two articles of impeachment against Trump on Tuesday. Trump is accused of abuse of power in relation to his alleged pressuring of Ukraine’s president to investigate potential 2020 Democratic rival Joe Biden, and obstruction of Congress, following his administration’s stonewalling of the congressional probe into the initial allegation.
“The president doesn’t own the government and he’s not above the law,” Republicans for the Rule of Law spokesperson Chris Truax said in a statement to HuffPost. “He’s merely a caretaker acting on our behalf and when Congress demands an accounting, it’s the President’s duty to comply.”
“President Trump has been given every opportunity to answer the charges against him,” the statement continued. “He demands friendly witnesses, yet refuses to allow his most loyal supporters to testify. He complains the proceedings are unfair, yet refuses to allow his lawyers to participate in the hearings.”
“If President Trump really could prove he is innocent of the impeachment charges against him, he would have made some effort to do so by now,” Truax concluded. “If the President really does think the facts will exonerate him, why won’t he let those facts come out?”
Last month, Republicans for the Rule of Law launched an ad campaign on Fox News in a bid to educate GOP voters on the facts of the Ukraine scandal.
We are divided into three camps; Pro Trump Cult, Anti Trump Cult, and the don't give a craps. The don't give a craps will be the deciding factor in 2020. They don't get a vote in the impeachment.
You forgot the third group. The, "I want a president that isn't a joke on the world stage and I stand for the constitution. A president who comprehends how to tell the truth at least the vast majority of the time."
That's not a cult.

Mitch McConnell coming out this morning saying that the white house and him are on the same page and he guarantees Trump won't be removed... as juror #1 I'd say he's compromised and the fix is in.
The fix has been in from the beginning. Openly admitting it on the other hand......
In the justice system if you have a preconceived idea as to guilt or innocence you are disqualified from being a juror. It appears that accountability has been lost by Mitch.

Harvard Law Professor Dismantles Key GOP Argument Against Impeachment Of Trump
December 12, 2012
Harvard constitutional law professor Laurence Tribe on Wednesday took apart a key Republican argument against the impeachment of President Donald Trump over the Ukraine scandal.
Tribe, appearing on MSNBC’s “All In with Chris Hayes” said some Republicans were “missing the point” by claiming abuse of power (one of two articles of impeachment that House Democrats have released against Trump, the other being obstruction of Congress) is “not a crime.”
“It is the highest crime against the Constitution,” said Tribe. “And in this case the impeachment articles are carefully written to show the aggregating circumstances.”
“This isn’t just using the president’s power to benefit himself,” Tribe added. “But it’s doing that in a way that endangers our national security and that corrupts the electoral process by inviting foreign involvement.”
Tribe, who advised the House Judiciary Committee on how to draft the articles of impeachment, earlier explained why the articles were “the classic high crimes and misdemeanors.”
He said:
Abuse of power is what the impeachment clause was all about. The idea of using the power of the presidency not to protect the nation but to benefit one’s self and especially one’s reelection. In fact, in the debates around the framing of the Constitution, the big question about the impeachment power was ‘do we really need it, or is it enough, because the president will have to stand for reelection if it’s going to be ahead of him?’ The answer to that was ‘what if he corrupts the election process? What if he uses his power to reframe the election so that he rigs the system? We can’t afford to wait.’ That was the whole reason not to wait for the quadrennial election to take place.
Tribe concluded by claiming that “as a historic matter, this is the clearest case we’ve ever seen in the use of the impeachment power.”
“Especially when you add the second article, which basically says that if the president will not in any way cooperate with the process” then “we really do have a president who is a dictator and if this isn’t impeachable, as many have said, then nothing is. That’s the theory of this case.”
In the justice system if you have a preconceived idea as to guilt or innocence you are disqualified from being a juror. It appears that accountability has been lost by Mitch.
To bad he's not open minded like the opposite side.
And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul. - John Muir
Well the whole thing is shaping up to be a farce in the Senate with McConnell and Graham colluding with Trump to rig the outcome of any kind of trial they decide to hold. We are basically letting the mob boss stack the jury with cronies and act as his own judge in a trial over his treasonous acts. DEPLORABLE.
An almost inevitable acquittal is nothing more than another crime. The most corrupt POTUS in our history will get to roll into the 2020 election cycle claiming exoneration and looking to fleece and destroy our democracy for another 4 years. Sadly, the most gullible will assist him in his continued criminal ventures, calling it #winning. I don't even recognize this country any more.
There is a serious amount of groupthink going on these days.
The biggest farce of all was the constitutional scholars. Dems would only as questions of their representatives, and Reps would only ask questions for their guy.
I would wanted to have seen some Dems question Turley the R guy. A good lawyer could have twisted him into a pretzel.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!…. That did not age well.
Is it really a Republican group? Or is it a Democrat until it is politically advantageous to be a Republican group?
Not super serious. It's just kind of interesting that one of the key people in Republicans for the Rule of Law is the son of Wendell Willkie. He was the 1940 Republican candidate for president who lost to but later supported FDR, and who up until the age of 47 (in 1939) had been registered as a member of the Democratic party.

CNN sided with President Trump this week, agreeing in a fact check that two House Democrats, both from Texas, had misquoted the president's July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky during a House Judiciary Committee impeachment markup session.
In a Twitter message Thursday, Trump wrote that Reps. Veronica Escobar, who represents El Paso, and Sheila Jackson Lee, who represents Houston, “purposely misquoted my call.”
“I said I want you to do us (our Country!) a favor, not me a favor. They know that but decided to LIE in order to make a fraudulent point! Very sad,” the president wrote.

Good for CNN being fair.
As for "quoting" anyone on that phone call - no-one can do that, no-one has done that - because the TRANSCRIPT ... the WORD FOR WORD version of the phone call has been hidden and kept secret. A White House, sanitized version of the call has been released.
The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.
What y'all find entertaining cracks me up. That was about as stooooopid as it gets... and you liked it enough to share. Speaks volumes. But to be fair, this has little to do with Trump because I would have thought that was dumb no matter who it was making fun of.
Fox News poll released Sunday morning found a majority of Americans, 54 percent, said President Donald Trump should be impeached, a vote the House is likely to pass this coming week.
The latest Fox News poll conducted last week found a majority of U.S. adults of all political affiliations say Trump abused his power in office, with 50 percent of Americans saying he should be impeached and removed as president. An additional 4 percent say he should be impeached but not removed from office. Those surveyed rejected the claim touted by Trump and Republicans that U.S. presidents typically ask foreign governments for help in investigating political rivals, with only 22 percent of respondents saying that defense checks out. A similar majority, 52 percent, said the Trump administration has not cooperated enough with the House impeachment inquiry.
Update: Trump once again responded to the unfavorable Fox News poll on Twitter Sunday afternoon; "The @foxnewPolls, always inaccurate, are heavily weighted toward Dems. So ridiculous - same thing happened in 2016. They got it all wrong. Get a new pollster!"
About 16 percent more voters said Republican lawmakers just want to protect Trump politically instead of reviewing the accusations which led to the two articles of impeachment against him -- abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
Just fewer than half of Americans surveyed, 48 percent, said they believe Trump obstructed Congress, while only 34 percent said they did not. And 45 percent of respondents said they believe Trump committed bribery. But more than half of Americans, 53 percent, said Trump abused the power of the Oval Office.
Trump has previously railed against the Fox News and several of the cable news network's less enthusiastically pro-Trump anchors and hosts. On Saturday night, Trump blasted Fox News for "interviewing sleazebag & totally discredited" former FBI Director James Comey, which aired Sunday morning.
"Don't know why @FoxNews wants to be more like them? They'll all die together as other outlets take their place. Only pro Trump Fox shows do well. Rest are nothing. How's Shep doing?" Trump tweeted Saturday, referencing former Fox News anchor Shepard Smith, who left the network in October.
Given the 3 percentage point margin of error, the share of Americans who want to see Trump impeached or removed from office has not changed since the beginning of the impeachment inquiry earlier this fall. Forty-one percent of those surveyed by Fox News said they do not want to see Trump impeached, which has not changed a single percentage point. While those saying they want to see Trump impeached, but not removed, also has not changed from 4 percent.
An overwhelming majority of Democrats, 85 percent, said they support removing or impeaching the president. While a nearly identical percentage of Republicans said the exact opposite.
In October, Trump lashed out against Fox News for a similar poll which showed a slight majority of Americans support his impeachment.

what ever happened to that Mueller report that took 2.5 years?
Trump did such a good job of obstruction that Mueller could neither confirm nor deny Trump campaign involvement even though he did confirm Russian involvement.
Trump has the AG in his back pocket who swept the obstruction charges under the rug.

what ever happened to that Mueller report that took 2.5 years?
You'll have to ask the Republicans who ordered it and ran it. Last I heard there were about 10 incidents of possible obstruction contained in it. Five Republicans ended up in prison and one is still awaiting sentencing.
