I hope it does happen.
I remember back in the mid-90's when I believe the Indians' hat was the #1 selling hat, outselling even the Yankees. Now here we are 10 years later, the Indians are back in contention, yet NO ONE talks about them outside of Cleveland.
Detroit got more publicity than we did last year...hell, the Yankees are STILL considered the favorites despite us having a better record and better pitching. How come baseball fans nationally aren't throwing their support behind us like they did 10 years ago?

Because we haven't fired Wedge and Shapiro yet... we haven't gotten rid of Blake and Peralta yet... if we only did those things, then we'd be good and people would talk about us....

It's longevity!!!! This is our first division crown in 7 years. We haven't been in and competitive for a while. They gave us ALOT this year with the top record or one of the top-2 records in the majors but it takes a while to set in.
And mark my words that if we get past the first series, you will be hearing even more about us!!!
But living in Dallas, I have heard a good amount of Indians hype lately, many 'experts' picks and not nearly as many Yankees picks as I would expect.

Leave the guy alone you jerks I think Clevelanders in general are waiting for another let down to be honest. Back in the 90's we had a new ballpark, lost the Browns, the CAVS were a joke, and all the sudden the Tribe got real good. Then the Browns came back and interest in the Indians faded b/c we got to the postseason and didn't win squat. So the general fan got bored and moved on. The fans that can remember Carmen Castillo, Felix Fermin, Chris Bando,,were still here I remember when the Indians hat was the #1 selling hat in the 80's b/c Clevelanders don't stay here. Thats why Browns fans are everywhere too. This team feels special. Something about them,,the chemistry is there. There is no Albert belle breaking the thermostat in the clubhouse. Manny flashing his cash. There young, average guys. You would think they would be the talk of the town.

I disagree. I think the wheels fell off of the bus after Jacobs sold the team and Dolan cut the payroll from 90 million to 25 million. The team entered full blown "rebuild" mode. That is when they stopped selling out the Jake. That is when fans lost interest.

Your right. Dolan did anger a lot of people too. But they won 90+ games 2 years ago, dipped down last year,,and won the Central this year and the fans haven't come out like they should have. A lot of people have said the reason is the local economy and people just can't afford the prices which I say is BS. The Indians do an amazing job to make it affordable and really cater to the fans (unlike the Browns). I seriously think people lost general interest after gtting let down and then like u said he cut payroll

Well lets not forget what has changed in 10 years.
Internet...people are no longer stuck relying on newspapers for sporting news, where the local team and the top performing teams got print. Now you can hear about your team 24/7 no matter where you are.
Prices...it costs alot to got a game, and people are finding themselves picking where they spend their money.
Scandal...I think baseball has lost alot of non-hardcore fans due to all the scandals, the overall boredom of the first several 100 or so games, etc.
Natural evolution.....thanks to video games, local sports that practice/play 6-7 days a week all through the year, many younger kids don't have time or interest in many pro teams, and also thanks to the media, they tend to gravitate toward the "cool" teams. Where as when we grew up, you liked the local team partially because that's the only team you could see on tv on a regular basis.
baseball isn't the dominant sport it once was, football has taken over as the "national pasttime"
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

a lot of people around here couldn't tell you one guy on the tribe, with the exception of a few diehards of the white sox, the people that were on that bandwagon before and after they won the series...
but they haven't gotten the publicity because it's obvious that espn, with the exception of baseball tonight (one of the few good shows they have) doesn't talk a ton about the indians...
espn sunday night baseball put them on 2 or 3 times... one of which was during the cavs playoff series with detroit, so not even clevelanders were watching that one, and another was during opening weekend of the nfl, when everyone was watching dallas/new york giants...
but come october, the stage will be theirs...
people outside of cleveland may not know who fausto carmona is now, but come october they will...
i think this is a team that the average baseball fan can enjoy, hardworking guys, no egos, no self-promoting...
these guys don't have any baggage, they're a throwback to the league...
i planned my vegas trip without realizing that the day we arrive in las vegas, is game one of the world series, how funny is that? we're meeting my parents out there too, that could be one hell of a vacation if the indians are still playing

This got me thinking - has Ohio ever had a betters sports than this past year?
OSU FB - Lost in Finals OSU BB - Lost in Finals Cavs - Lost in Finals Destroyers - Lost in Finals Mount Union - Won Championship
I'm sure there is more, these are all I came up with off the top of my head.

yeah, 1948
browns go undefeated and win the aafc title (which was as big as the nfl back then)
tribe wins the world series
although this year has been awesome no doubt, but getting there is not enough, the tribe can make this an awesome year by finishing the job
hey 2119 where you staying at?

Don't forget all the Cleveland manufacturing business thats either gone or on life support. Those businesses and their employees bought a lot of tickets. Personally I'd be alot more excited about making the playoffs if we'd done better against NY and Boston. How many did we win against those guys 2 out of 15? I think NY swept both series.I cant help but feel we're going to take another nationally televised whipping. It'll be just one more Cleveland joke for the Tonight Show. Winning the Central Division is like being the tallest midget in the room.I'm rooting for them but I don't expect much.To be the best they have to beat the best and so far they haven't shown me they are in the same class as the Yankees and Red Sox. Good luck to them. I really hope I'm wrong but I can't get to excited about this.

I guess you never looked at the records of all three of those teams this year If the Yankees or the Red Sox were any better than the Tribe this year their records would show it. The FACT is that neither of them are better than we are.

We need more consistent winning season's with divisional crowns like the 90's otherwise, we won't be like the 90's.

the tribe is a different team now..
and besides, in those series, we never got the pitching matchups... sowers was in the rotation, westbrook was struggling, and i believe cc only faced the red sox and the yankees a total of 2 times alltogether...
we'll be fine...
besides, the yankees pitching is awful... pathetic.

I don't get what you are saying here. The Central Division has been one of the toughest divisions in MLB over the past few years.
The White Sox won the series 2 years ago. The Twins have been 90+ game winners for most of the past 5-6 years. Detroit won the wildcard last year and started off this year as one of the best teams in baseball.
The only consistently subpar team over the past few years has been KC. What other division had 4 playoff contenders going into the beginning of the year?
I'm curious which division(s) you think are tougher than the AL Central.

yeah but seasonal records mean nothing when your playing a team. The NYY are never an easy win and if they take the last wildcard, won't they be playing Cleveland in the first round?

Barring a meltdown by the Sox, the Tribe is playing the Yankees... and there is no such thing as an easy win in the playoffs... or at least there shouldn't be. And based on the last couple weeks, the Tribe is playing better than the Gucci and Neiman Marcus teams in the AL...

I'm torn by this matchup. Ever since the Expos skipped to Washington I haven't had a team to root passionately for, but I've always had a soft spot for the Indians (since the movie Major League haha, and the 1997 playoffs when they beat Balt. and almost beat Florida, whom I hate). But on the other hand there's something about the Yankees mystique I like, the Stadium and history in New York. I won't publicly root against the Tribe on here though - 337's too good of a Maple Leafs fan to do that to him. Either way whoever wins I will root for them after that because I hate the Red Sox and their idiot fans, there's a lot of them up here where I live.

The FACT that the Tribe went 2-11 against them has no bearing on reality, eh? The Indians have lost one less game then the Sox...
