Do you mean that a TE that can catch, run AND still actually block only makes sense if Baker becomes Brees or Rivers?

That's the current state of things, in order. We're picking #7 Overall right now.

It's like a WWF Cage Match for the the top picks.

Who needs a number 7 pick? This team took DB, Justin Gilbert 6th overall iirc.

We took Gilbert number 8. We traded down from 4 to 9, then up 1.

They all blend together but did we take Gilbert the same draft as Mike Evans and Khalil Mack?

We probably should have met with him before we drafted him in the top ten. Just saying.

You can thank Pettine, to an extent, for Gilbert. Pettine loved him.

Does anyone remember the audio when Pettine called Gilbert after being drafted?..."jumped on the table for him" or something similar.

Hard to wrap my head around the draft at this point.

That is five months away.

For once in 20 years or so I would like to enjoy a season. Think about making the playoffs. Be in the hunt to win games.

Can not even think draft. Need to see what happens. Then re-evaluate the roster.

Look at free agency. Then come late March start the draft.

I want to win games.

As much as it may suck, a loss to Cinci might keep Burrow from being drafted by them. A short term discomfort to avoid a 10 year nightmare. I really hope Cinci pulls off a victory or two by seasons end.

Gah...

Gates is an awful example. I just mean these guys like Njoku, Jordan Cameron, etc. with the flash athleticism and inability to block well never really did it for me.

That's the point I was trying to make.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Yeah, I'm over those types of one trick ponies.
If they aren't valuable in the run game, they are incomplete and thus a backup. We need to improve on the likes of Njoku - who is rather overrated to begin with. A LOT more talk than substance around him.

REID'S 2020 NFL MOCK DRAFT 3.0

BY: JORDAN REID
DECEMBER 2ND, 2019

https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/jordan-reid-mock-draft-3.0-final

We are officially entering the fourth quarter of the NFL season, and with four games remaining on the schedule, there are still a lot of deciding divisional games still on tap.

While some teams are striving for the postseason, there are others whose year has come to a close after being eliminated from playoff contention. Many fan bases around the league are already in 2020 NFL Draft mode searching for prospects and even doing an endless amount of mock drafts on the Mock Draft Machine.

With that being said, a new draft order has been set, which means the third installment of my mock draft has been released.

ROUND:

1
1.

Bengals
Joe Burrow
QB, LSU
It has been a historic career for LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, and a rise from a senior QB unlike any other we have ever seen before.

The Cincinnati Bengals are a franchise that has locked into the stages for mediocrity for nearly two decades, but now they have stooped to their lowest point in quite some time.

After a 1-11 record and with the team playing a game of musical chairs with Andy Dalton and Ryan Finley, it is time for general manager Duke Tobin and head coach Zac Taylor to select "their guy.” They should select Burrow as the new face of the franchise with the No. 1 overall pick.

2.

Giants
Chase Young
EDGE, Ohio State
Daniel Jones has shown some positive glimpses, but struggled with turnovers over the past few weeks. Saquon Barkley has suffered a massive setback this season.

The New York Giants are headed towards another losing season, but an elite talent could fall right into their laps with Chase Young. General manager Dave Gettleman has been adamant about building the team from the inside out and Young firmly satisfies that strategy. Adding the former Buckeyes edge rusher alongside Dexter Lawrence gives the franchise two building blocks along the defensive line.

3.

Redskins
Andrew Thomas
OT, Georgia
In a time filled with dysfunction and turmoil, the rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins has shown promise since officially taking over as the team’s starter. The situation with Trent Williams seems to be a marriage headed towards divorce come offseason and as a result, the team’s search for offensive line help will be a high priority on top of the team’s positional needs.

Thomas gives the team a young option and heir apparent to Williams to protect their young signal caller for the foreseeable future.

4.

Dolphins
Tua Tagovailoa
QB, Alabama
One of the more surprising developments of the 2019 season has been the turnaround of the Miami Dolphins, who were frequently labeled as being the “worst team in NFL history.” Fresh off a shocking victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, there might not be a team that plays harder for their head coach than the Dolphins do for Brian Flores.

Ryan Fitzpatrick brings an unexplainable type of energy, but it is clear that he is only a stopgap option. For now, his infectious playing-style and excitement has led the Dolphins to a 3-9 record. On the flip-side, Tua Tagovailoa would bring even more thrill to a fanbase that is anxious for what has already being labeled as the most important offseason in franchise history. Despite the durability concerns, acquiring the Crimson Tide quarterback, would bring plenty of joy.

5.

Falcons
Derrick Brown
IDL, Auburn
For as talented as the Atlanta Falcons are in spots, this season can only be labeled as a disappointment. With the possibility of changes coming in the offseason, the Falcons need help along the defensive front. Grady Jarrett and Takk McKinley are obvious building blocks, but the franchise is missing that true dominating presence in the middle to unlock everyone on the first and second levels.

That is the type of skill set and demeanor that Derrick Brown brings to the table. At 6-foot-4, 325 pounds, pairing Brown alongside Jarrett gives the Falcons one of the best potential interior duos right away.

6.

Lions
A.J. Epenesa
EDGE, Iowa
With a 3-8-1 record, it has been a disappointing season in the Motor City. But even after injuries to Matthew Stafford, there is still hope for the team under head coach Matt Patricia. Continuing to add to the defense would be wise as the team's ability to get after opposing QBs remains an issue even after signing Trey Flowers in free agency. A.J. Epenesa provides the team with a high upside option who can play multiple positions in Patricia’s scheme.

7.

Cardinals
Tristan Wirfs
OT, Iowa
The Arizona Cardinals are still in the early stages of a multi-year rebuild and are experiencing the rough patches of the process. The NFC West could be considered the best division in football and this team has a tough task ahead of keeping up with the upper-echelon franchises in the conference. Protecting Kyler Murray should be among the Cardinals' top priority and that is exactly what Tristan Wirfs brings to the table. With D.J. Humphries possibly being re-signed in 2020, the Iowa offensive tackle fits in perfectly at the right tackle spot opposite of him.

8.

Jaguars
Jerry Jeudy
WR, Alabama
The return of Nick Foles did not go as planned after how quickly he was benched for the intriguing sixth-round pick, Gardner Minshew. The Jacksonville Jaguars targets have made strides in their development, but the receiving corps is still missing a true difference maker. Jerry Jeudy, who would be returning to his home state, brings plenty of flare for the team moving forward.

9.

Jets
Jedrick Wills
OT, Alabama
There are many directions the New York Jets could go with this selection. Jeffrey Okudah was contemplated hard here, but addressing a dreadful offensive front was the superior decision. Jedrick Wills brings a dominating mindset to an offensive line that has struggled mightily. A “people mover” is the best way to describe the Alabama offensive tackle, and it is exactly what the franchise needs to protect Sam Darnold.

10.

Chargers
Justin Herbert
QB, Oregon
However you feel about Justin Herbert and his traits coming into the season are probably the exact same feelings you have about him nearing the conclusion of his final season in Eugene. While opinions remain mixed about his draft stock, thoughts of the Los Angeles Chargers drafting a QB are becoming more apparent. After another heartbreaking loss, there were rumors of Philip Rivers being benched in favor of Tyrod Taylor — that should tell you the state of the position for the franchise right now.

11.

Broncos
Jeffrey Okudah
CB, Ohio State
After addressing the offense early and often during the 2019 draft, Vic Fangio still needs to remake his defense. Fangio will need to find shutdown corners and that is the role Jeffrey Okudah can provide at the next level. While there may be bigger need at offensive tackle, the value is there at this spot. The former Buckeyes cornerback has the potential of being a huge steal, and he is a perfect fit for Fangio’s defense.

12.

Eagles
CeeDee Lamb
WR, Oklahoma
The Philadelphia Eagles have arguably been the most disappointing team in the NFL this season. Carson Wentz continues to regress due to the targets he has been forced to play, and the injury to DeSean Jackson has been pivotal causing a lack of options for the signal-caller. Drafting CeeDee Lamb is a no-brainer because of his catch consistency and ability to defeat man-to-man coverage.

13.

Buccaneers
Javon Kinlaw
IDL, South Carolina
Defensive tackle Vita Vea is finally starting to turn the corner and show his talent as a first-round selection, and the Ndamukong Suh experiment might only turn out to be a one-year trial. With that in mind, drafting his long-term replacement seems wise. Javon Kinlaw is an explosive option as a 3-technique to wreak havoc alongside Vea.

14.

Panthers
Grant Delpit
S, LSU
Things are not pretty in Carolina right now. The bloom on the rose has officially fallen off from the Kyle Allen flower and the Panthers are currently in a downward spiral. After questions about Ron Rivera’s job, the team’s defense has continued to struggle. Carolina needs an option on the backend that can be a mistake eraser. Grant Delpit provides plenty of value at multiple spots, and is a true playmaker — which is an area the Panthers currently lack.

15.

Browns
Alex Leatherwood
OT, Alabama
The Cleveland Browns are another team that has failed to live up to expectations this season. After overhauling a roster and loading it with talent, general manager John Dorsey omitted the offensive tackle roles — and trying to patch work it together by re-signing left tackle Greg Robinson to a one-year dea has not worked. The band-aid has been ripped off and the sores are showing throughout the group with Baker Mayfield’s second-year struggles. The Browns should consider replacing Robinson with Alex Leatherwood, who is a much more valuable option as he continues to make his transition to the position.

16.

Raiders
Isaiah Simmons
LB, Clemson
The Oakland Raiders 2019 draft class has already received rave reviews and many selections have proven to be instant-impact contributors. Three Clemson players were included in that class and Mike Mayock seems to be interested in forming a pipeline. Isaiah Simmons can help a need at linebacker. He is the ultimate chess piece that Paul Guenther’s defense lacks

17.

Colts
Jordan Love
QB, Utah State
The Indianapolis Colts re-signing Jacoby Brissett to a two-year, $30 million extension prior to the season seemed like the right decision. It still could be, but the Brissett experiment has gotten off to a rocky start. There is still plenty of time still left to prove that he can be the team’s top option moving forward, but there is also still plenty of rumors swirling about general manager Chris Ballard’s love for Jordan Love. After a 32 touchdown to six interception season in 2018, Love’s numbers have declined precipitously to 17 touchdowns and 16 interceptions this season.

The flashes of promise are littered throughout his film and pairing him with head coach Frank Reich could be his sophomore year form resurface.

18.

Raiders
Henry Ruggs III
WR, Alabama
The Raiders will want to provide some type of fireworks to the offensive attack next year. That is what Hnery Ruggs III provides as a receiving option. His speed, ability to win in all areas and dynamic playmaker skills make him the threat Jon Gruden should covet in his offense.

19.

Titans
K'Lavon Chaisson
EDGE, LSU
After the chapter closed on Marcus Mariota, the resurgence of Ryan Tannehill has been a revelation for this team. His has produced excitement, energy and played like the QB we once saw a glimpse of in Miami. With quarterback of the future potentially put on pause, the Tennessee Titans continue to gain depth at edge rusher. After suffering a setback with a torn ACL in 2018, K’Lavon Chaisson’s explosion proves to be better than it was before his knee injury. Pairing him with Harold Landry gives the team two reliable rushers off of the edge to utilize with Jurrell Casey and Jeffery Simmons along the interior.

20.

Jaguars
Dylan Moses
LB, Alabama
The sudden retirement of Telvin Smith came as a shock to everyone, and the Jaguars have not yet recovered from his absence. Even with Myles Jack, the defense has been a bit vulnerable up the middle. Dylan Moses, who despite tearing his ACL prior to the season, has had plenty of time to rest and recover. Moses should take full advantage of the pre-draft process in order to prove his health. For Jacksonville, adding Moses to Jack and Quincy Williams gives an immediate boost to a second-level that has struggled.

21.

Cowboys
Xavier McKinney
S, Alabama
From head coach questions to the secondary, the Dallas Cowboys have a plethora of issues. Every season it is predicted the Cowboys will make upgrades to a porous secondary and those moves are hardly ever made. It is finally time to upgrade from the never ending cycle of Jeff Heath, Xavier Woods, Kavon Frazier and Darian Thompson. Xavier McKinney is the definition of a tone setter who has the potential to wear many hats in the teams secondary.

22.

Dolphins
Yetur Gross-Matos
EDGE, Penn State
After spending a first-round selection on Christian Wilkins a season ago, Brian Flores and Chris Grier continue to makeover the team’s defense by getting help off of the edge in Yetur Gross-Matos. His most immediate value comes right away as a pass rusher, but his development against the run is where coaching must come into the picture. His length, motor, and upside are traits that cannot be coached and areas that the team will highly value.

23.

Dolphins
Creed Humphrey
IOL, Oklahoma
With the final of three first-round picks, the Dolphins continues to build up the trenches by selecting Creed Humphrey. The impressive Sooners center is the exact type of blocker that you want to grow with your new potential franchise quarterback in Tagovailoa, but he also continues the belief of establishing a new identity in Miami of building up the offensive and defensive fronts.

24.

Vikings
Trevon Diggs
CB, Alabama
With Trae Waynes and Mackensie Alexander set to become free agents in the offseason, the Vikings will once again be seeking to draft a cornerback high. At 6-foot-2, 202 pounds is the exact type of corner that fits the Mike Zimmer mold of length, aggressiveness, and one who embraces tackling. Trevon Diggs’ ball skills are an added incentive with his game, but there are some technical aspects that must be corrected. Being drafted to play with his older brother in receiver Stefon Diggs as well as being under the tutelage of one of the best defensive back developers in NFL history is an ideal situation to further his development.

25.

Chiefs
Kristian Fulton
CB, LSU
It is hardly ever a secret: The Chiefs need help in their secondary. Tyrann Mathieu, Juan Thornhill and Kendall Fuller have been great additions in years past, but another young option is still needed to add to the current group. Kristian Fulton is a best case scenario at this point, and many will argue that he deserves to be selected higher than this spot. The LSU cornerback continues an overhaul of one of the worst pass defenses in the league from a season ago.

26.

Bills
Julian Okwara
EDGE, Notre Dame
One of the more intriguing rosters to come together over the past two seasons has been the Bills. General manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott’s chemistry has been fun to watch as they have pieced together players will not be perfect overnight. Shaq Lawson had a huge bounce-back season and possibly in line for an extension during the summer. However, Jerry Hughes and Trent Murphy are the only other proven options outside of that. Continuing to add pass rushing depth is needed, which is where Julian Okwara comes into the picture. Still needing development on how to properly use his length and hands, this a perfect landing spot for him to polish his overall game.

27.

Packers
Laviska Shenault Jr.
WR, Colorado
With Davante Adams shouldering the load and the Green Bay Packers now somehow unable to find pass catching targets for running back Aaron Jones, there is a supreme lack of depth at the No. 2 receiver spot. Laviska Shenault not only provides an answer to those questions, but he brings value as a return specialist. His ability to subside the reliance on Adams production would be a welcomed addition to the roster.

28.

Seahawks
Raekwon Davis
IDL, Alabama
The Seattle Seahawks take the cake when it comes to teams trying to predict which direction they could choose. With the Ziggy Ansah production not living up to its initial standards, the Seahawks would be wise to continue to add another piece to the defensive line. Raekwon Davis has struggled to find his production from his sophomore season but entering a culture that is known to get the best out of players could help him recreate his former self.

29.

Saints
Tee Higgins
WR, Clemson
Michael Thomas is putting up ridiculous numbers in the Big Easy. While he is on pace for the most catches in a single-season, there is a lack of high-end talent behind him. Pairing Higgins with Thomas could provide Brees with a formidable duo until he decides to ride into the sunset and hang up his cleats. Still, the two together are a perfect complement to each other.

30.

Ravens
Kenneth Murray
LB, Oklahoma
The absence of C.J. Mosely has not been as apparent as many have imagined. The Ravens defense is still one of the better units in the league, but it is a unit that has always been known as having an identity at that spot. Murray’s leadership, alpha mentality and improvements make him an intriguing option here as the new man in the middle for a unit that could lose Patrick Onwuasor to a hefty payday elsewhere in the offseason.

31.

49ers
Jalen Reagor
WR, TCU
The trade deadline acquisition of Emmanuel Sanders has given the 49ers offense a tremendous boost. With him scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, the team may opt to find a young option in a loaded receiver class. Reagor is an ideal fit as a playmaker in Kyle Shanahan’s high octane offense, but he’d also be an electric addition as a return specialist.

32.

Patriots
Neville Gallimore
IDL, Oklahoma
Another team that is difficult to predict in the first-round is the Patriots. With the biggest need being tight end, it is debatable whether or not the team elects to finally find their replacement for Rob Gronkowski. Electing to go in a different direction, the team decides to draft Gallimore. A prospect who has shown tremendous improvement during his final season in Norman.

Dane Brugler Mock Draft 1.0. has the Browns taking...

15. Cleveland Browns — Austin Jackson, OT, USC

Somehow, someway, the Browns will be investing resources into the offensive tackle position this offseason. While not a technically refined blocker at this stage in his development, Jackson is a smooth big man with agility, flexibility and the length to keep defenders busy and away from the pocket.

Andrew Thomas*, OT, Georgia
Height: 6-5. Weight: 320.
Projected 40 Time: 5.10.
Projected Round (2020): 1.
10/12/19: Thomas has been very good for Georgia this year as a shutdown pass protector and solid contributor in the ground game. After putting on a clinic in Week 1 against Vanderbilt, the Bulldogs have had a lot of easy opponents.

Thomas helped Georgia to a tough win over Notre Dame. Taking on Notre Dame's edge rushers, Thomas held them in check and did a good job of protecting Jake Fromm. Thomas had some critical protections and did well in run blocking, including opening a goal-line hole for D'Andre Swift to score. Team sources say that Thomas is a future top-10 pick and where he goes in the 2020 NFL Draft will depend a lot on team needs.

8/17/19: Thomas had a strong 2018 season for Georgia at left tackle and was a big part of the team's juggernaut rushing attack. He also was a steady pass protector who did a good job of protecting Jake Fromm. Entering 2019, multiple team sources say that the junior jumped out at them and was impossible to ignore. Thomas was very impressive at right tackle as a true freshman, starting there all season and helping the Bulldogs to produce a dominant rushing attack. He also flashed impressive athleticism and length in pass protection.

In pass protection, Thomas has the potential to be a starting left tackle. He has quick feet with a good build and athleticism on the edge. Thomas can play the typewriter with his feet to cut off the edge from speed rushers. With good hand placement and technique, Thomas is a well-developed pass protector who sustains his blocks and prevents a successful second effort from defenders. Thomas plays with good leverage and knee bend on most plays, and that allows him to hold his ground against bull rushes. Thomas also is very disciplined and you don't see inconsistencies from play to play or game to game.

As a run blocker, Thomas is effective. He is quick to the second level and fires out of his stance. He gets into defenders quickly with no hesitation to get physical and tie them up. Thomas is strong to lock up defenders and sustain his blocks. He is not overwhelmingly powerful like Quenton Nelson or Brandon Scherff in college, but Thomas has the strength to manipulate and turn defenders in the ground game to open holes for backs. He has more strength than some other tackles who have gone in the first round recently, including Jonah Williams or Andre Dillard, and Thomas is a better run blocker at left tackle than many college tackles who enter the NFL these days coming from spread offenses that don't play as much of a physical pro -tyle offense.

There are some things that Thomas can improve on as a junior. With fast edge rushers or surprise blitzes off the edge. he can get into some trouble by bending at the waist and reaching after defenders. He could stand to add more strength to move pro defenders at the point of attack, but considering he is still very young. he has plenty of time to do that as he will benefit from aging with experience in a pro strength and conditioning program.

Walker Little*, OT, Stanford
Height: 6-7. Weight: 304.
Projected 40 Time: 5.40.
Projected Round (2020): 1-3. 10/12/19: Little was playing well overall against Northwestern, but late in the fourth quarter, he had to be helped off the field after suffering a serious knee injury. Little suffered a dislocated knee and is out for the year.

8/17/19: Little was impressive as a freshman starter at left tackle for Stanford in 2017. He did an effective job in run blocking and helped Bryce Love to a huge season. Little was solid as a sophomore and showed an improved ability to protect the passer, doing a respectable job in keeping pressure off of quarterback K.J. Costello.

In pass protection, Little is tough to beat for edge rushers. He has good length and strength, and is able to bend at the knee. Little sets up well to take on rushers, and once he gets a hold of defenders, they are in trouble. His length and strength allow him to sustain blocks to the whistle, and he is very difficult for rushers to shed. His long arms and strong upper body also give him an edge in recoverability, so even when he is slightly out of position, he can compensate by getting enough of the rushers to give his quarterback time to throw. Generally, Little is very dependable to not allow pressure. He has good hand placement and is intelligent to recognize how defenses are attacking the edge. Little also flashes some nastiness as a pass blocker, and it is not uncommon to see him grab a rusher in the chest and throw them to the ground with ferocity. Little sets a physical presence and is a real battler who makes it a long day for edge rushers to match up against.

Little is a plus run blocker for a left tackle. He is a fighter who has some nastiness to him. He definitely is not a finesse left tackle thatwhoshies away from getting violent with defenders. Little can get into the chest of defensive linemen and get a push on them at times. At other times, he uses his length to turn and manipulate defenders to keep them out of the play. In the ground game, Little could stand to improve his ability to stay on his feet. Too often, he stumbles and falls to a knee at the second level or trying to push a defender.

Trey Adams, OT, Washington

Height: 6-7. Weight: 334.
Projected 40 Time: 5.32.
Projected Round (2020): 1-3.
10/12/19: This season, Adams has done a good job of protecting Jacob Eason and opening holes at the point of attack. Adams had a solid game against Stanford until allowing a sack very late in the fourth quarter in garbage time. NFL sources told me that Adams impressed them during fall camp.

8/17/19: Adams had surgery for a back injury and missed a large portion of the 2018 season. He eventually returned to the field and did well considering what he was coming back from. There is no doubt that Adams is talented, but he has had major injuries and will have significant durability concerns for the NFL. Staying healthy for the 2019 season is critical for Adams' draft grade.

According to NFL teams' 2018 preseason data provided by team sources, Adams checks in at 6-foot-7, 334 pounds. At that heavy weight, Adams was said to run a fast 40 at 5.10 seconds. Other data had him with 34.25-inch arms, 10.13-inch hands and an 81.13-inch wing span. He has excellent measurables to be an edge blocker in the NFL.

In October of the 2017 season, Adams tore an ACL, which led to him returning for his senior year even though he still could have been a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Adams was solid, but not dominant, before getting hurt. He didn't have a flawless season opener against Rutgers, but was better in other games. Adams showed good length, quickness, athleticism and agility. Sources from around the league thought he was a first-rounder, with some liking him at left tackle and others thinking he would a better fit at right tackle. One college scouting director said they had a higher grade on Adams than they did on Garett Bolles in 2016, who was the first tackle taken in the 2017 NFL Draft.

During the summer leading up to fall camp for the 2017 season, scouting sources with NFL teams who had gone ahead to work the 2018 class during the spring told me that they thought Adams had the potential to be an elite prospect. Those evaluators felt that Adams could emerge as one of the top talents for the 2018 NFL Draft and had him in the top three of all players entering the 2017 season. They compared Adams' size and athleticism to Taylor Lewan coming out of Michigan, and also said that Adams has good technique to go with his impressive skill set. Adams was one of the top left tackles in the Pac-12 in 2016. The Huskies fielded a potent passing offense, and Adams did a nice job of keeping his quarterback, Jake Browning, protected. Adams was excellent against Alabama in the playoff game.

In pass protection, Adams shows serious athletic ability for a big-bodied offensive tackle. He is quick, agile, and very athletic at playing in space. Adams uses his quick feet and length to neutralize speed rushes, and has an impressive ability to get depth in his drop. He does a superb job of keeping his feet moving and is able to play the typewriter while gliding with edge rushers.

As a run blocker, Adams can create a push at the point of attack. He is a true bull who overwhelms defenders at the point of attack, and he is able to knock defenders back to open holes in their gaps. Adams' speed and athletic ability can be seen with his quickness to hit blocks on the perimeter and the second level.

Tristan Wirfs*, OT, Iowa
Height: 6-5. Weight: 322.
Projected 40 Time: 5.32.
Projected Round (2020): 1-3.
10/12/19: Wirfs has blocked well overall for Iowa, but has some areas of improvement for the NFL and that was evident in him struggling against Michigan.

For the NFL, Wirfs has a quality skill set with size, length and athleticism. Wirfs plays with good leverage as a run blocker and sustains his blocks well. He sets up pretty well, but he definitely has some issues to clean up in pass protection for taking on NFL edge rushers. Wirfs has an inclination to bend at the waist on times. While he is quick out of his stance, he needs to get more depth in his kick slide to avoid reaching after speed rushers coming around the corner. Wirfs also needs to get better at counter moves to the inside. While he has the physical talent to play left tackle, he could better off at right tackle and it would be better for him to return for his senior year to improve before going pro. In speaking with some team sources after the game against Michigan, they agreed that Wirfs looked more like a late first-rounder than a top-10 pick.

8/17/19: Under head coach Kirk Ferentz, Iowa has produced a lot of good offensive line talent, so it was very noteworthy when Wirfs became the first true freshman to start at tackle under Ferentz. While being the regular starter on the right side, he did play left tackle in Iowa's bowl game to end his freshman campaign but was back at right tackle in 2018. Wirfs is a powerful right tackle who is a strong run blocker at the point of attack. He also has the quickness and athleticism to develop into a good pass protector. As a sophomore, Wirfs didn't allow a sack. Some NFL teams might consider moving him to left tackle.

Sam Cosmi**, OT, Texas
Height: 6-6. Weight: 295.
Projected 40 Time: 5.10.
Projected Round (2020): 1-3. 10/12/19: Team sources like Cosmi and think he is a better prospect than Connor Williams was at Texas. They feel that Cosmi is raw and needs development, but athletically, he is an interesting prospect. Cosmi has yet to play a lot and need to get stronger for the NFL. Team sources feel that he should go back to school if he wants to be a secure first-round pick in his draft class.

8/17/19: As a redshirt freshman, Cosmi earned a starting spot at right tackle for the Longhorns and had an impressive debut. He did a good job in pass protection, showing some length and athleticism on the edge. For the NFL, it would help Cosmi to get stronger, but as a young player, he probably will add weight and strength as he ages and gains more experience. Even though he is a redshirt sophomore, Cosmi was placed on NFL teams' preseason watch list, with some evaluators believing he has the potential to go in the top half of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Prince Tega Wanogho, OT, Auburn
Height: 6-7. Weight: 301.
Projected 40 Time: 5.00.
Projected Round (2020): 1-3.
10/12/19: Wanogho has looked very good at times for Auburn and still has some other plays that illustrate how he is raw and needs development, but there is no doubt that Wanogho has a great skill set with a lot of upside if he plays up to his potential. He has the skill set of a starting left tackle for the NFL. Some sources feel he could be this year's Greg Little as a player with a first-round skill set who slips to the second day because of being raw with underdeveloped technique.

8/17/19: Wanogho earned the starting left tackle job in 2018 and got better as the season progressed. He has a lot of upside with size, athleticism and quickness. Scouts have told me that Wanogho has an excellent skill set, but is very raw and needs to be coached up as he lacks consistency. They feel that Wanogho could be the 2020 version of Greg Little as a gifted prospect who lacks consistency and doesn't always play up to his skill set.

In 2017, Wanogho had a rough start to the year against Clemson and was eventually removed from the starting left tackle job. If Wanogho plays up to his tools as a senior, he could easily rise high in these rankings and infinitely more importantly on teams' draft boards.

Mekhi Becton*, OT, Louisville
Height: 6-7. Weight: 369.
Projected 40 Time: 5.60.
Projected Round (2020): 1-3. 10/12/19: Becton is a giant blocker who is similar to Cordy Glenn. While Becton (6-7,330) is huge, he is a good athlete for his size and moves pretty well in space. He does a nice job in the ground game of sustaining his blocks. Even though he is massive, Becton is not a true bull who overpowers blockers. He makes it tough for them to get free with his size as he turns and manipulates them. In pass protection, he needs to improve his hand placement as he can get too wide and let defenders get their hands in chest. That can make Becton have problems with bull rushes. Becton has talent, but it might best for him to return for his senior year and redistribute some weight with added strength and improved technique before going pro.

8/17/19: Becton is a massive blocker who is a pretty good athlete for his size. For the next level, it would help him to trim some weight and get in better condition. However, teams like his talent and upside, and some have placed him as having potential to be selected in the top half of the 2020 NFL Draft entering his junior season.

Trey Smith*, OT/G, Tennessee
Height: 6-6. Weight: 320.
Projected 40 Time: 5.32.
Projected Round (2020): 1-3.
10/12/19: Smith has returned to the field this season and has been a solid left guard for Tennessee. It might be in his best interest to return for his senior year and show that the blood-clot issue is behind him so NFL teams won't have less of a concern there.

8/17/19: Smith had a strong sophomore season for Tennessee prior to missing the final five games of 2018 with blood clots in his lungs. The issue first impacted Smith during workouts after his freshman season. After being held out for some time, Smith returned to practice in training camp and played the first seven games of the 2018 season while showing his impressive skill set for the Volunteers. Smith's status for 2019 is in question, but he has been taking part in non-contact parts of training camp practice. Head coach Jeremy Pruitt was not ready to say if Smith will play in 2019, but Smith is working with his medical team in hopes of playing again. Obviously, Smith has to play and maintain a high caliber of play to be a first-round pick.

In 2017, Quenton Nelson was the top offensive lineman in college football, but the second-best guard in the nation could have been Smith. Considering there were other good guards like Will Hernandez and Braden Smith who were second-round picks in the 2018 NFL Draft, that is really saying something for how Smith played as a freshman. Smith dominated at the point of attack and was extremely impressive when taking on Alabama. He looked like he was just scratching the surface with the upside to be even better with more experience. Smith played guard and left tackle for the Volunteers as a freshman.

Yasir Durant, OT, Missouri
Height: 6-7. Weight: 330.
Projected 40 Time: 5.48.
Projected Round (2020): 2-3. 10/12/19: Durant has been solid for Missouri, but he has illustrated that he should be a right tackle in the NFL. Durant needs to get in better shape, and team sources have concerns about his work ethic.

8/17/19: Sources say that Durant has starting potential for the NFL, but they believe he probably will end up being a right tackle only for the next level. Evaluators feel that Durant has talent and upside, but he has problems with weight and lethargy. Durant is a big blocker who has length and size on the edge that makes him tough for edge rushers to get around. In 2018, he was a leading blocker on a line that was one of the best in nation for fewest sacks allowed and was very steady in protecting the blind side for Drew Lock. The Tigers also had some success on the ground while averaging 200 yards per game.

Durant broke into the starting lineup in 2017 after watching the first three games. He started out his collegiate career at Arizona Western Community College and was one of the top junior college recruits after one semester at Arizona Western.

Hakeem Adeniji, OT/G, Kansas
Height: 6-4. Weight: 310.
Projected 40 Time: 5.10.
Projected Round (2020): 2-3.
10/12/19: Adeniji probably should move inside to guard for the NFL because he lacks length for blocking on the edge. He is a good athlete who is a smooth mover and quick on his feet. Adeniji could be a really good fit at guard in a zone-blocking system.

8/17/19: Adeniji has been a starter at left tackle during his collegiate career, but NFL teams have him listed as a guard on their preseason watch list, and some advance scouts identify Adeniji as having the potential to go in the top half of the 2020 NFL Draft. Adeniji is a skilled pass protector who has some athleticism and movement skills. Team sources say he is a good athlete with quick feet but is shorter than ideal for a left tackle.

If there is any chance that we can get Chase Young YOU DO THAT.

Look at what Pittsburgh has been able to do with Watt and Dupree and Dupree isn't even close to what Chase Young is. Those two off the edge are suffocating.

Imagine Myles Garret in year 5 and Chase Young in year 2.....dynamic.

I had hopes for David, I proclaimed him a complete bust after like week 6 last season.....then he started making play after play.....

Then this season. He is still young, but I'd honestly rather have Darren Fells back at this point.

Reading that list, I want Adams or Wirfs.
Give me a OT that is plenty decent in the pass game, but is a beast in the run game. I want to destroy teams by running it in their face.

Right now, I think we are picking #14... we no longer have draft capital capable of moving up for Chase Young or Andrew Thomas.

If Chase Young enters the draft. He has said that he is returning to tOSU for next season. (which really doesn't make a loss of sense from a financial aspect, as he would probably go #2-3 in this coming draft)

oh, right... I forgot about that. I saw a headlines recently that said he might return. I was surprised.

Maybe he wants another shot at getting a Heisman??

Well, Ya, the Steelers teach their players how to play and play well,
the Browns lack showing of development, regular progression in technique and improvement of their players over time,

So it doesn't matter if the Steelers start out with regular talent, run of the mill, they'll get more out of them, because they know what they are doing.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Gah...

Gates is an awful example. I just mean these guys like Njoku, Jordan Cameron, etc. with the flash athleticism and inability to block well never really did it for me.

That's the point I was trying to make.

I'm a bit late to the party here but know what you mean.

I think guys like that fit well in 2 tight end packages. The league is crazy for 11 personnel (3 receiver) sets right now but as someone mentioned, some of these tight ends are really more like receivers in big bodies. So go to 12 personnel (1 back, 2 tight ends, 2 receivers) more often with one of those tight ends the fast/athletic type. It gives more punch to the running game compared to 3 receivers without having to use a fullback, which isn't much of a threat in the passing game.

The Browns need to stick to their draft board first and foremost. I would like to see them trade OBJ for draft capital. I know this creates a need at WR but I'm OK with that. Protect Baker, figure out how to improve this DL to both create pressure AND stop the run.

The Browns finally have a leader in the building. It won't be long before Jim Schwartz is in charge. Thankfully.

According to that mock, Alabama may have 9, count em 9 possible 1st round draft picks!

That blows the record for 1st rounders by a single college football team out of the water...

Agreed, unfortunately, but it's the same story every year.

The Browns have to do a better job of developing their own players. This means coaching, scheme, progression in technique, strength and conditioning work, etc.

One of my gripes with Goodell is this issue of the draft. The "indefinite" suspension aspect penalizes a team beyond an individual's event and punishment. We should have an obvious status for MG so we can draft as aggressively as we like, and know if we must draft hard to compensate for his absence and for how long. If we want to make a run at Young, it is one thing to judge how he would be with Myles versus Browns without him for a season or more. Not suggesting he not be disciplined. But my draft board changes with him as opposed to without him. Any team has the right to have a clear limit as to games, dollars, length of time, boundaries for discipline edicts. This coy "indefinite" invites explanation as to its intended purpose and its proven effectiveness. Smarmy it is, but it sure did wonders for Gordon, so much so that we saw more than once; because it worked well? We are already talking mocks; we have atoned or not. This is like some kind of "double secret probation" as stupid as Animal House which intended it as a farcical humorous butt for overbearing disciplinarian wannabes who fail. Discipline changes behavior. Paying for your sins is atonement and it is over. The indefinite fails to be fair or effective.
I would love to see us go hard after fewer targets with higher impact.

If I’m reading it correctly, we could end up picking around #8 or all the way back to #18 depending on this weekend.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Just for the sake of winning one meaningless game this weekend, I'm not willing to go from #8 to #18 (if indeed those numbers are accurate)...

I’m getting a bit tired of trying to win the draft.

If watching so many drafts all of these years has taught us anything, it’s the best talent in the draft doesn’t often go first. There are going to be plenty of good players left, regardless if we’re top ten or mid round.

Lets not go out on a losing note, we’ve lost enough this season.

I never tire of winning the draft for that is how you build the core of your team. Winning/losing this last game likely has zero effect on which of the coaches and players are retained or released. Their 'fate', I expect, has already been determined...
