They couldn't even lock McCarthy down.

Pit...not directing this at you...

BUT, some of you live in a fantasy world where you believe the BS that Haslam shovels out about the Browns being an attractive job.

I hoped for McCarthy but then I put myself in his position...what does Haslam have to offer?...a pink slip in 1 or 2 yrs.

Haslam and Browns cannot run from their record, a lack of patients, creating an impossible front office setup, then feeding the fans a bunch of bs about Cleveland being such an attractive job.

McCarthy made the best choice for himself and the Browns lost out, again.

That would make sense, if the Browns offered him the job. You fail to realize, we didn't offer him the job. So that's BIG part that's lacking in your post. McCarthy didn't "pass" on the browns, or turn us down, or make a decision against us - because as of right now, we never offered him the position.

But hey, just another agenda driven post

How do you know they didn't offer him the job? And if they didn't, why would they walk away from the most successful person they have on their list of candidates?

In some way I agree. The Cowboys are high profile. I never expected McCarthey to come to Cleveland. McCarthey is at a point in his career he isn't looking to build a culture. He is looking to step in to a culture.

I'd rather hire a player who played under Belichick than a coordinator from NE.

Players have a way better success rate coaching in the NFL.

We interviewed him pit, and apparently did not find him to be a compelling hire. Or else we offered and he declined. If we were not convinced he was the guy for us then we should not have made an offer. We have a bunch of highly thought of candidates. Let’s interview them and pick the best of the bunch.

And for all of you who seem to take delight in insulting the browns and blaming the team because McCarthy went elsewhere, I think it had zero to do with us and 100% to do with him walking into the #1 offense and #9 defense in the league. Pretty hard to walk away from that. Of the teams remaining in the coach search we compare pretty favorably to them so we should have a good shot at getting the person we want.

Just for the record, Don Shula and Chuck Noll were both Browns' players under Paul Brown, but neither was ever on a PB coaching staff. Still, both are considered as part of the Paul Brown coaching lineage.

Good come back Pit *L*
... But I don't see him staying in NE unless BB retires this week.

Gettleman is a problem with JD going to the Giants.

So it will come down to the Browns or the Panthers imo.

Leaning towards the Ohio connection.

Didn't Belichick inherit the Jets job because Parcells resigned, he didn't interview and get hired for it?

Josh McDaniels set to meet Giants WednesdayPosted by Josh

Alper on January 6, 2020, 3:08 PM EST

Before the Patriots lost to the Titans on Saturday night, word was that their offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels would interview with teams considering him for head coaching vacancies on Friday. Now that the Patriots are done playing, McDaniels is pushing things forward. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Giants will interview McDaniels on Wednesday. McDaniels is also expected to interview with the Browns and Panthers, but there’s no word on when those conversations will take place. PFT reported this weekend that the Patriots expect McDaniels to leave if he’s offered a job.The Giants are set to interview Baylor head coach Matt Rhule on Tuesday and Patriots special teams coordinator/wide receivers coach Joe Judge is in on Monday. They’ve already spoken to Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Ravens defensive coordinator Wink Martindale and Cowboys defensive passing game coordinator Kris Richard. They also interviewed Mike McCarthy before he agreed to become the new head coach in Dallas.

Maybe. Just seems like this McDaniels the favorite to go to browns might be nonsense. Takes two to Tango no matter how much Jimmy loves him

Starting to think it'll be Stefanski

It would be fascinating to be able to listen to our interviews.

The process of a interview is a two way street. The candidates are also interviewing the Teams.

I wonder how Haslam and the others come across?

How do they present the Browns?

Now it is down to the Browns, Panthers and Giants.

McDaniels will most likely have "his" choice.

I would think being involved with the GM search would be a big deal.

Stefanski? Wonder what kind of taste he has left after the Browns seemed sold on him before. How did they handle that whole deal?

It may well be up to McDaniels. The others Daboll, Roman, and Saleh most likely would take any offer to be a head coach.

I highly doubt Haslam is interested in a defensive guy? Haslam believes in Mayfield. I think he wants a offensive guy.

Daboll? Doesn't fit the "image." Nor does he have the resume.

Roman? Dark horse. He has done well with quarterbacks and schemes. Lacks head coaching experience.

The longer ownership screws around, the more likely it is for another team to make an offer that McDaniels can't turn down.

I hope the search process is not being "purposely manipulated" with the hope that McDaniels does accepts another offer... while the Browns sit on their hands, playing their silly front office games.

I honestly do not trust anything Haslam says.

From a pure financial perspective I doubt the money will be very different from one team to the next.

There is most likely a pay scale in place for new head coaches.

It will come down to owner relationship, roster, qb, cap space, gm or gm influence, ability to build staff.

If we don't land McDaniels or Stefanski then IMO they turned us down.

McDaniels should have been the guy from day one.

I want no part of Stefanski. His play calling in the Vikings game this weekend was absolutely AWFUL. Not only that, but I think Kubiak is doing all the heavy lifting.

Stefanski is what Kitchens was to us. He has a highly experienced coach(Kubiak/Zampese) that design all the plays, design all the blocking schemes, and hand them an idiot proof play calling sheet to call plays on game day. Take Kubiak away from Stephanksi, and you got Kitchens 2.0

Only way im even remotely interested in Stephanski is if Kubiak comes with him, and Kubiak isn't coming here...

How do you know that?

How about some sort of proof? Something besides what you think you know?

What actual information do you have about Stefanski?

Why even have Stefanski on staff if it is all Kubiak?

You always throw all this stuff out there as fact with zero to back it up.

FINALLY

Someone says what I think about this stefanski guy. He has pretty much zero experience, never a head coach, hasn't done anything. I have no idea what would make someone want him at all. There's nothing that intrigues me about him, he's last on the list and I wouldn't even bother to interview him.

I look at it in a different way... Josh goes to NY first..Does his interview...Then goes to Cleveland and interviews... And exactly what McCarthy did in Dallas...Josh does here... He doesn't leave...

So, Who is the offensive coordinator? Joe (bag-o-donuts?)

My most hope rests in McDaniels, or Daboll, or both at this point I guess.
I figure Stefanski would work out worse than a Freddie and Dorsey sticking through.

I don't see the Giants as a good match for McDaniels because of their GM, Gettleman. I think Josh wants his own guy at GM. Between Cleveland and Carolina, I think we have the advantage because of him being from here, and having a QB that McDaniels reportedly likes, while there's questions about Cam Newton's health, going forward.

Whoever lands the Panthers job needs to move on from Cam. He was done a couple years ago. Don't know where they draft but if they can land a top 3 QB his year, they should.
