CNN settles Nick Sandmann defamation lawsuit in Covington Catholic High School controversy
CNN has settled a multimillion-dollar defamation lawsuit filed by Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann over its botched coverage of a viral confrontation with a Native American elder that had portrayed the Kentucky teen as the aggressor.
Fox 19 first reported that CNN settled with Sandmann on Tuesday for an undisclosed amount. The $250 million defamation suit sought damages for the "emotional distress Nicholas and his family suffered" in the fallout of the network's reporting.
Sandmann’s attorney, Todd McMurtry, declined to comment on the dollar amount or other elements of the settlement with CNN.
McMurtry told Fox News that lawsuits against “as many as 13 other defendants will be filed in 30 to 40 days.”
Among them: ABC, CBS, The Guardian, The Huffington Post, NPR, Slate, The Hill, and Gannett which owns the Cincinnati Inquirer, as well as miscellaneous other small outfits, according to McMurtry. Separate lawsuits against the Washington Post and NBC have already been filed, he added.

Its actually too bad it didn't go through the court system. It's an interesting lawsuit because CNN was spreading false information about the event, there is no doubt of that, but they were not the original source of the slander. They were sourcing doctored and biased information from social media. So, are they truly responsible? Should they be liable or should all of the liability be put on the parties that originated the slander/libel?

First, I wouldn't punch the kid or one of you guys just for wearing the stupid hat. I do think the kid acted like a douche but I know more came out about the story and I never really followed. I would no more hit this kid than I would lock babies in cages at the border, because he's a kid. But I find it fascinating how some of you will defend him but condemn the kids in florida taking a stand for gun control, or Greta Thunberg for taking a stance on climate change, or children from other countries just trying to find a safe and happy place to be kids... it is mind blowing.

Now if what y'all do is really not an act, then the problems run deeper than I ever imagined. But most of you are not the posters you were a few years ago, not at all.
And I really don't care if you want to ostracize me, or berate and belittle me for being a liberal. But I actually care a lot more about people in general than any of you would ever know. I've felt bad for the way I have treated several of you guys. Like Arch and Duty, they didn't deserve the way I came at them. And this is just a microcosm of the whole damn country right now. IMHO it's disgusting. I can't believe what I'm seeing most days and it's almost 100% political with all things leading back to Trump and this administration, just like his ties to Putin and Russia.
So yes, I've been playing over the top radical hate filled lefty just like many painted me. But I think it's time to be done with all that.
