Jay, will we be able to tell if the Browns are going to go back to the analytics-based program they started a couple of years back by who they hire for coach and GM? Out of all the candidates, who would make sense to carry this out? —Harry D.
Harry, you’re asking me to figure the Browns out? Seriously? Really? Well, let me pull up a stool here and I’ll get back to you in about three and a half years.
From what I hear, they’ve been all over the place with what they’re looking for. Some candidates go in and show them a list of around 10-12 GM candidates. Other candidates go in and don’t show them any list of GM candidates. I just don’t think they have an actual plan and that’s been the problem. First, the Browns need someone to develop their quarterback. They need someone who Baker will listen to and buy into because Baker needs help.
Secondly, if I’m them, I go and pilfer from my division rivals. I know John Harbaugh isn’t going to be happy to hear this but go take someone from Baltimore to try to weaken the Ravens, who are the biggest, baddest dude on your block right now. Go get Wink Martindale or Greg Roman to take away from your biggest division rival and to hopefully bring the Ravens Way to Cleveland. \
The Browns are all over the place. After they hire someone, they are going to tell you they had a clear plan but that hasn’t been the case.
The results since 1999 indicate he may be pretty spot on. Not saying he is but it seems closer to the truth than the BS our FO has been spewing since 1999 based on results.

In all seriousness, I want McDaniels but it's probably a good thing that they didn't just offer him a contract as soon as he walked into the building. Huddling up and discussing the entire process is important.
