The #Browns will interview #Patriots college scouting director Monti Ossenfort for their GM job tomorrow, sources say. It’s his first GM interview, because he was blocked for the #Texans GM job two years ago. A respected scout.

Being a talent evaluator for the Patriots doesn't quite carry the shine it once did.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Montgomery Ossenfort...that is pretty cool. Props to his parents.

I assume Montgomery, but then that is usually spelled Monty.

Hmmmmm….maybe just a made up name...Monti.

I know it will all come crashing down but it is good to see the team going through the process of interviewing candidates instead of just hiring the obvious person.

This whole off-season, so far, wreaks of Paul DePodesta. Going through the process instead of just making rash decisions is not something Jimmy Haslam is usually up for. Haslam basically hired Ray Farmer and Sashi Brown because they around. He hired John Dorsey without interviewing anyone. Good process = good results.

It may not produce good results, but it does increase your chances when faced with uncertainty. As Depo said.

I like planning. I have always been a planner.

Planning a cool vacation is as much fun as the actual vacation. The vacation lasts a few day to a few weeks. The planning can be 2-3 months of joy.

One of my favorite things about interviewing Patriots front office people is when you Google them there is no information. The only people listed on the Patriots front office page of their website are the Krafts and Nick Caserio.

Bad process sometimes yields good results. Sometimes a pitcher throws a meatball right down the middle of the plate and the batter pops it up.

Bad process? ... u have the GM who built the chefs into what they are today available mid season and its bad process to hire him before the season ends and other jobs open up and it gives said GM 1/4 of the season to get in there and learn about the org, from players to coaches ...

In my world that equates to not looking a gift horse in the mouth as opposed to bad process ...

You're right. It's not bad process. It's an impulse buy which is basically no process.

Was John Dorsey a good hire at the time? Yes. If Jimmy Haslam went through a real interview process to hire a GM could it have turned out better? Also yes.

Having previously done your homework and acting decisively based upon that is now considered a bad thing. Haven't you been reading the board?

Maybe that's why we are most often the last team to hire a HC and staff. We all know how well that's worked out for us.

Maybe that's why fans support that method so much?

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Not for nothing, but Dorsey had a pretty decent resume...

No, it was a good move....maybe not as good as some think.

His biggest problem was being given control over hiring the coach of his choice, and he whiffed big time.

It is what it is. I wish he got that right. He would still be here.

Hmmm .. I thought the press release said, "A mutually agreed upon parting.." We think, in other words, Jimmy didn't want Dorsey involved in the coach search, so Dorsey took his toys and went home. All we truly know is what the press release says, neither side has elaborated further.

He was given an opportunity to stay. He wasn't dumped; he chose to not stay under those conditions.

He was Full Control or nothing; he chose the nothing.

And he did do an outstanding job at bringing in talent, and he also did his fair share of completely stupid moves with talent, too. Things we all tried to figure out and reason away, but still actually defy logic. Hubbard and his contract being one of the most egregious.

He was one of the best we've had for bringing in talent, and it would be great if he was still part of our scouting department, but I'm very glad he isn't in charge on contracts or coaching hires any longer, because both areas are CLEAR weaknesses of his.

You can't say that on the radio!

*L* ... ya .... full control or nothing .... cause u were in the room ... rolleyes ...

Ok .. please explain to me what his roll was going to be when we were bringing in a GM that the new HC gets along with ....

So please tell me exactly what KJ’s role was gonna be ... seriously .... ill be waiting ...

And remember were hiring a new GM ... so exactly what was KJ’s role gonna be when were hiring someone to do the job he DID!!! ... they essentially neutered him even though he killed it at his main job ....

And dude .. if he was in charge of contracts that would have been dumb as heck ... that would be beyond stupid ...

Glad to see u lost all faith in his ability to hire a coach after ONE FAIL ... again ... BRILLIANT .... if all owners had your patience Bill Belichick would have NEVER BEEN ... Dungy and Gruden wouldn’t have SB rings ... how do u like them apples ... *L* ...

Berry was requested to be interviewed by the panthers ... iggles declined it cause he wasn’t going to have final say over the roster so it was a lateral move ... apparently our request for him was to be what i consider a true GM and that’s with final roster control ... IMO Belichick is the GM of the pats everyone else is just basically info gatherers ...

Berry interviews tomorrow.

The Panthers already have a GM, Marty Hurney.

I think the problem was that he was a little too willing to work with others. Deferring to Hue didn't turn out very well. Hopefully Depo has refined the Draft process and the new GM and Stefanski can work their parts of it. I think Berry might be more willing than other candidates to work through/with the Depodesta process(es). I think it goes back to the "alignment" buzzword. Berry was on board before, and Stefanski doesn't seem like he'd steamroll him.

I think Berry could work in the organizer type GM role. Hopefully we keep Wolf and Highsmith for their evaluation insight.

Dorsey's issue was that he was more scout than manager.

Spending a bunch of time on a process to then go against it due to your "gut" doesn't always end well.

We'll still need good scouting information fed into the system. I think Berry will do a better job of staying on script instead of writing a starring role for himself, if that's the direction we go.
