To my ears, it sounds very much like an appropriate and proportional reaction to the facts at hand.

Other than profits (which I already mentioned), what other possible reason could he have for opening the doors to re-introducing the kinds of pollution you were just describing?

There is only one other reason I can think of: he believes that environmental issues are liberal-exclusive issues... and wants to troll/pwn libs with this policy decision.

I mean, seriously- the conditions you described were dead on-point. The solutions and timeline: factual and irrefutable. So I ask you in all sincerity (and with no trace of snark or sarcasm): after all the before/after that you laid out, do you agree with the decision to roll back the very regulations that gave us this cleaner world- and if so, why?

To me, it's akin to seeing a guest show up to a great party and saying: "What a beautiful punch bowl! You know what would make it even better? A turd. Yes, someone could improve this beautiful punch bowl by defecating in it. Let's make that happen, shall we?"

I have a hard time understanding a mindset like that.

If there are other reasons that support the "pollution is good" position, I'm missing them. I was raised in such a way as to believe that we should always be trying to improve on what we have and who we are. Going backwards is illogical and antithetical to what I learned about Human Progress. I must be missing something. Because you'd never be a fan of something worse unless there was something better to be gained from the decision, right?

What could that be?

Li'l help?

You should! You're not worthy of his presence in these muddle minded threads that the resident GOPers like to turn into partisan rhetoric, tactless GOPer fantasies, russian propaganda, trumpian lies, and conspiracy theories.

No, sounds like hair on fire, world is ending crap to me.

Also, your assumptions of it being based on profits don't fit with the facts...

EPA found that improving air quality has been costly: Control efforts from 1970 to 1990 cost an estimated $0.52 trillion (inflation adjusted to 1990 dollars), whereas the central estimate of total monetized benefits of the CAA from 1970 to 1990 was $22 trillion. Thus, the air quality improvement that resulted from the CAA from 1970 to 1990 was quite costeffective, with benefits exceeding costs by a ratio of approximately 42:1 (best estimate). Subsequent EPA reports found continuing large benefit-to-cost ratios.

Trump understands profits like no one else.

As far as it being a Lib-exclusive issue, I would say it is a Lib-exclusive-over-reaction to the facts that lines their pockets on a global basis. Not to mention they are scaring the hell out of young folks who say they won't bring children into this ending world.

The rest of your post falls into the over reaction to the facts at hand.

You’d likely respond that the person making such a statement was uninformed in such a thought as they have never been there.

Arch is like an emotionally feminine version of Cliff from Cheers in my minds eye, only much less knowledgeable. Not sure what the real Arch is like but that is who I imagine from his activity on this board.

And then there's this...

Seattle is dying; so are Portland and Spokane

Driving into Portland on a route we have used for 25 years, we noticed tents and tent camps everywhere — under bridges, in abandoned properties and tarp cities.

We also saw many abandoned camps. The people were gone. The trash was left behind. Garbage, tarps, things collected and used were now left behind for someone else to pick up — or as it looked, not pick up. What a great view for tourists coming to visit. Welcome to Portland — a literal sewer and garbage dump.

We stayed downtown where, as you walk, you can see people in sleeping bags everywhere. These are people without shoes or socks.

I’d rather have homeless than GOP voters. It’s a step, or two, up in class of people.

It would be if that's what I did. I think you jump to conclusions. Depicting a fictional character that you see in your mind can in NO way be construed as misgendering, nor a personal attack when I plainly say "Not sure what the real Arch is like but that is who I imagine from his activity on this board."

Low is throwing blame and allegations where none are due. And when did describing anything in the masculan or feminen become so offensive, especially a trait or a small part of something bigger and in no way the whole or sumtotal? That stuff is getting very ridiculous.

Okay, but your original post says

Quote:
emotionally feminine version of Cliff

This is an attempt to remove arch's masculinity from him. You try to demean and belittle arch by insinuating he is less of a man judging by how he's reacting to you.

If you judge someone based on how you perceive the traits of masculinity and femininity, you should really rethink how you view the world. You're basically arguing alt-right viewpoints going down that road.

NO IT'S NOT. You are reading into it what you want to see. Tame your inner SJW for a minute and you will see I'm adjusting the character Cliff's emotionality to a more feminine version before comparing that to what I imagine Arch to be, all while saying I have no idea about the real Arch. But I can I see you seem to struggle with any use of the words masculine/feminine though, so maybe I should endeavor to consider your feelings more before I post anything.

I mentioned no race. Homelessness occurs across all genders and races. Most that I’ve come across are soft spoken and grateful for any interaction that treats them with dignity. This winter I carried bags with new socks and gloves in them. When stopped at traffic lights and approached for spare change I instead offered my gifts. The thanks and tears I received in return far outweighed the gifts I gave. I’d rather have 10,000 grateful people that are struggling to make a decent life for themselves as neighbors than 1 guy that is more concerned with the Dow than his fellow man.
I stand by my statement. Twist it how you want.

You took one group of people (republicans) and lumped them all together as being the same, and you don't like them just because they are republicans. That is the exact same thing the KKK does. No twisting needed.

It's also the same thing many Republicans do with the LGBTQ community.

In Win for Bayer-Monsanto, Trump EPA Claims Cancer-Causing Weedkiller ‘Safe’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
THURSDAY, JANUARY 30, 2020

WASHINGTON – The Environmental Protection Agency reaffirmed its claims today that the active ingredient in Bayer-Monsanto’s carcinogenic weedkiller Roundup is safe, ignoring a growing body of independent research showing a strong connection between glyphosate and cancer in humans.

“Today’s announcement underscores that the Trump administration’s willful ignorance of science and abject fealty toward the chemical pesticide industry knows no bounds,” said EWG President Ken Cook. “No American should believe for a second that Trump and EPA chief Andrew Wheeler ever give a thought to whether their policies could harm public health.”

Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Bayer-Monsanto’s Roundup, is the most widely used pesticide in the world. It is largely used as a weedkiller on genetically modified corn and soybeans. But it is increasingly being used for crop management and applied pre-harvest to a number of non-genetically engineered crops, including oats.

Last year, a report in Environmental Sciences Europe documented how the EPA ignored a large number of independent, peer-reviewed studies that link glyphosate to cancer in humans. Instead, the report found, the EPA used research paid for by Monsanto to support the agency’s position that glyphosate is not carcinogenic.

Since 2018, three separate juries found glyphosate caused cancer in four California residents who were exposed to the herbicide while handling Roundup, and awarded multimillion-dollar damages to the plaintiffs. There are now more than 13,400 similar cases against Bayer.

Last April, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry released an analysis that gave weight to studies connecting glyphosate and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and recommended monitoring children’s exposure to the toxic weedkiller.

In 2015, 17 of the world’s top cancer researchers convened by the International Agency for Research on Cancer reviewed hundreds of studies on glyphosate and voted unanimously to classify the weedkiller as “probably carcinogenic to humans.” In 2017, California added glyphosate to its official list of chemicals known to cause cancer.

Three rounds of laboratory tests commissioned by EWG found glyphosate in nearly every sample of oat-based cereal and other breakfast products at levels higher than what EWG scientists consider protective for children’s health with an adequate margin of safety. Last week, Kellogg’s announced it will take steps to phase out the use of glyphosate to dry oats and wheat before harvest.
