70% of Americans want to see witnesses. Somehow in their feeble brains they think showing the American public that they refuse to let witnesses and documents be submitted that will mean they won something.

I guess if they think showing 70% of the American people this is nothing but the biggest coverup on our nations history is winning, they're not really sure what the word winning actually means.

j/c - had a 3 hour drive today and listened to about 2 hours of Questions being answered. Trump seems to have one good orator - Patrick Philbin - who spoke well and made the most sense, even when I didn't entirely agree with him. Sekulow and the others - guessing the worst is Pam - simply pedal lies that have been proven not to be true based on witness testimony and emails released by individuals. I'd be embarrassed if I was them - but I guess if you sold your sold your soul then maybe you go in eyes open.

Schiff - who I normally cringe at whenever I have seen him interviewed on TV - is very good. Articulate and gets his points across well. I don't always agree with everything he says either - but he is compelling and keeps it pretty simple.

On the Dem team there was a lady - Val? - who answered one question about the Biden's and sounded embarrassingly terrible. Then the next question she took was much much better.

Some variations today - but still a lot of the Republican defense is that you can't touch Trump because he is the Tzar/King/Emperor and is untouchable no matter what he says or does. . . . Still can't or won't answer when Trump ordered the hold on the funds. Still trying to claim the process is an issue and that Subpoenas can be ignored!!! ... Schiff answered that issue very clearly and efficiently.

The "truth" is not the goal. Moscow Mitch will do everything and anything to prevent witnesses with first hand accounts that Trump orchestrated everything. We've already heard from LOTS of credible witnesses who are first hand saying "they were all in the loop" - Trump, Barr and now Graham .... but the cry was "but they never heard it from Trump's lips" .... so now that we KNOW there are witnesses willing to testify that they heard it directly from Trump's mouth .... they MUST NOT TESTIFY AT ALL COSTS.

If they do testify - they have already laid the ground work to say it doesn't matter and Dictator Trump can do whatever he wants.

Former Vice President Joe Biden opposed additional witnesses during the Senate impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton, a fact that comes as Democrats try to get former National Security Adviser John Bolton to tesify in the ongoing impeachment trial of President Trump.

Politico obtained a memo on Thursday written by then-Delaware Sen. Biden in January 1999 that was sent to the Democratic caucus in the middle of the Clinton impeachment battle.

“The Senate may dismiss articles of impeachment without holding a full trial or taking new evidence. Put another way, the Constitution does not impose on the Senate the duty to hold a trial,” Biden said to his Democratic colleagues. “In a number of previous impeachment trials, the Senate has reached the judgment that its constitutional role as a sole trier of impeachments does not require it to take new evidence or hear live witness testimony.”

Washington, D.C., January 30, 2020 -- United States Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement on his vote regarding additional evidence in the impeachment proceedings:

“I worked with other senators to make sure that we have the right to ask for more documents and witnesses, but there is no need for more evidence to prove something that has already been proven and that does not meet the United States Constitution’s high bar for an impeachable offense.

“There is no need for more evidence to prove that the president asked Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter; he said this on television on October 3, 2019, and during his July 25, 2019, telephone call with the president of Ukraine. There is no need for more evidence to conclude that the president withheld United States aid, at least in part, to pressure Ukraine to investigate the Bidens; the House managers have proved this with what they call a ‘mountain of overwhelming evidence.’ There is no need to consider further the frivolous second article of impeachment that would remove the president for asserting his constitutional prerogative to protect confidential conversations with his close advisers.

“It was inappropriate for the president to ask a foreign leader to investigate his political opponent and to withhold United States aid to encourage that investigation. When elected officials inappropriately interfere with such investigations, it undermines the principle of equal justice under the law. But the Constitution does not give the Senate the power to remove the president from office and ban him from this year’s ballot simply for actions that are inappropriate.

“The question then is not whether the president did it, but whether the United States Senate or the American people should decide what to do about what he did. I believe that the Constitution provides that the people should make that decision in the presidential election that begins in Iowa on Monday.

“The Senate has spent nine long days considering this ‘mountain’ of evidence, the arguments of the House managers and the president’s lawyers, their answers to senators’ questions and the House record. Even if the House charges were true, they do not meet the Constitution’s ‘treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors’ standard for an impeachable offense.

“The framers believed that there should never, ever be a partisan impeachment. That is why the Constitution requires a 2/3 vote of the Senate for conviction. Yet not one House Republican voted for these articles. If this shallow, hurried and wholly partisan impeachment were to succeed, it would rip the country apart, pouring gasoline on the fire of cultural divisions that already exist. It would create the weapon of perpetual impeachment to be used against future presidents whenever the House of Representatives is of a different political party.

“Our founding documents provide for duly elected presidents who serve with ‘the consent of the governed,’ not at the pleasure of the United States Congress. Let the people decide.”

Except this is not what he said. He said that what he did doesn’t reach the standard of impeachment. Now you can certainly disagree with him (many do) but you really should get his side right if you want to call him out.
