I like Wirfs myself ... I think he will be a good pro

My guys:
Isaiah Simmons CeeDee Lamb Tristan Wirfs Laviska Shenault Jr. Josh Jones Adam Trautman I like this list. For me, I'd replace Lamb with KJ Hill. He'll have long career in the NFL. Also, Jeff Okudah. Also, I'd add Damien Lewis (G) from LSU. He pancakes people. It would be hard for me to pass on Simmons at #10 even given our need on the OL. Really like Josh Jones, Adam Troutman, Damien Lewis and Isiah Simmons for the Browns. Browns won't take him, but always enjoyed watching Shenault and root for Colorado. My dad is an alumnus of Univ. of Colorado. Also, Cleveland Browns legend Darrin Chiaverini has coached Shenault throughout his college career.

Unless we trade one of the ones we currently have

I don't have guys yet. I have guys who might end up being my guys, but I need to watch more film and get the testing results.
Jedrick Wills and Mekhi Becton are "my guys" so far at the top on the OL. Tyre Phillips is my sleeper right now. There are no perfect prospects on the OL, but they show the most dominance within their wheelhouses, and their weaknesses appear to be things that can be corrected and/or mitigated.
Jeremiah Dinson, S, Auburn, is a player I'm liking. Not quite the same physical specimen as Simmons, but does a lot of the same things.
Devin Asiasi, TE, UCLA is a TE/H-Back I'm high on.

I wouldn't mind a Collin Johnson type in the mid rounds. A big target type. I guess if Higgins is back / our staff remembers who he is, then a taller WR is less of a need.

Isaiah Simmons is my guy in the 1st round. If I am making the call and he is there, it would be very difficult to pass on him no matter who is there at LT.

I doubt that a kid who only had 39 receptions and 572 yards in his best season is going to cause an NFL team not to look for someone who is better. I don't get all of this "Higgins is great" BS.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

jmho for now that is Wirfs worries me. It looks like he has good technique, but after watching a ton of him I'm starting to think that the only reason he's not a waist bender is that he might be physically incapable of it any more after all the weight lifting. If guys run into his grasp, he's powerful. When he has to find them, he struggles fairly often. It's a bit unusual to talk about an OL's change of direction, but he's an extremely straightline athlete on tape. If you stay in that straightline, he'll move you. If you move out of the straight path, he's often still going to go the way he was headed. Just seems to be missing some balance and flexibility, and thus ability to adjust (aiming points, etc), due to his incredibly strong, but rather fixed/musclebound core. I'm not sure if it is fixable or not. He has quick feet which hides his inability to twist, but it shows up a lot if you're looking for it, I think.

There was talk amongst the "experts" that he would be better suited inside. When I hear that, I get leery of drafting for the OT position.

Trevis Gipson, Edge, Tulane is a guy I'm liking. Needs to get more consistent with his technique, but his flashes are nice. He's kind of "miscast" in Tulane's D with only 3 down linemen, but it has let him show inside/outside versatility as they play him in different gaps. I think the D he played in could be good in the long run, but it didn't highlight his strengths as much as it could have. It did make him work on/get used to things he might not have otherwise.

J/C
Emerging from my self-imposed exile, the pain of the abysmal 2019 season subsiding...
LOT, Mekhi Becton, he has Bryant McKinnie type of potential.
SS, Kyle Dugger, intrigued by his blend of size, speed, and versatility. I wouldn't draft Simmons over a top tier OT I'd take the risks on Dugger's athleticism.
ROT, Lucas Niang, if he checks out medically. Possibly the best college RT of 2018.
IDL, Robert Landers we have a lot of needs to address and we may turn our attention to DL late in the draft. Landers' impact at Ohio State is undervalued. Landers in round 6 would be a great get.

Good post.
I think drafting a SS high is a mistake.
I do love Landers and think he is vastly underrated player.

What's up, Vers? What do you consider too high? I'd take Dugger in the 3rd.
My other SS options would be Jeremy Chinn, small school Safety from So. Illinois or Patrick Nelson from SMU.

I was agreeing w/you. There are a few rare strong safeties that break the mold, but I typically would not draft a SS in the first round. There are just too many of those guys around. True free safeties are much harder to find.

There was no contention intended by my response. I was just curious about what you thought the strategic draft slot might be for SS.

I figured that. I was just trying to clarify because my first post wasn't very clear.
What are your thoughts on the SS position?

With these current offensive schemes and tendencies, everybody is looking for the hybrid-defender. Derwyn James and Simmons represent the ideal for this kind of player although I'd put Mathieu in the same category. A chess piece to be moved where needed on a play-by-play basis. The value of this type of player is rising in the league. It requires a rare skill set to cover TE's, slot guys or RBs in the passing game and also be able to fill gaps in the run defense or be in the mix to rush the passer when called on.
I think McKinney from Alabama can offer some of these skills but I worry that he may be a bit light to be a force in run support. Same with Delpit. Both are good players but I see them being a liability taking occasional linebacker reps.
Dugger's size and perhaps his footspeed (find out at the combine) can make him an option. If his combine and private workouts validate his measurables I see him as the 3rd SS in this draft class.
If Dugger can approach the play of Jacquiski Tartt, the 49er small school SS that would be a win.
I think Chinn or Patrick Nelson offer some of these abilities too but I don't rate either as high as Dugger

Thanks for the reply. I put Fitz in that class. He did a bunch at 'Bama and made a difference for the Steelers.
Not saying I am right, but I think that impactful guys can be had in the first round other than guys who are primarily a SS.

Oh, my bad... did I mistakenly say Higgins was great? If so ... no wait.. I didn't say that at all. What I said was our receiving corp, IMO, needs a bigger target to compliment Landry and Beckham. Higgins could fill that ROLE if he is still on the team. And Higgins did flash some potential before he ended up in Freddie's dog house last year.

A small school prospect to watch out of Arkansas St. Omar Bayless.
Could be a 4th round steal IMO. Had over 1600 receiving yards last year. The competition wasn't the best, but he did well in his games against Alabama and Georgia the last two years.
Now, also put a QB and OL that could match up with Alabama and Georgia and he would look real good.

Haven't studied the OL in depth just going on rankings done by Draft sights. OL is probably the easiest to identify correctly.
But we need athletic OL men as we embark a Zone Blocking scheme. We need guys who can move laterally and with speed!

I wonder what the new staff will think of Drew Forbes? If we had remained stable in the front office and coaching staff, I think he would have challenged for the RG spot. Now ... who knows?

About the receivers and their size; Stefanski was able to get plus production from both Thielen and Diggs neither being physically imposing wide-outs. We have guys on the roster who offer size mismatches at the TE position. Seals-Jones and Njoku both have some wide receiver-type skills in their toolkits. Adding size to the WR corp primarily for the sake of size would be a misplaced priority IMO.
Personally I'd rather have a blocking TE.

No matter what Berry said, they will jettison guys the previous regime liked and bring in their own. We will never invest in and develop players because we will never invest in and develop staff and the FO. And round and round we go.

Is there a possibility that Becton is too big for a zone blocking scheme?

Is there a possibility that Becton is too big for a zone blocking scheme?
Honest question. Regarding Becton, the following is from another thread, posted by Grateful Dawg: https://www.dawgtalkers.net/ubbthreads.ph...e-browns-selectNFL Draft Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville Jedrick Wills, OT, Alabama Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa There are not many scenarios where the Browns should not select an offensive tackle with the No. 10 overall pick, but the franchise should feel comfortable letting the draft play out to their slot rather than any need to trade up. There are four Tier-1 offensive tackles in this draft worthy of being drafted from the Browns’ post, and many others who would be good backup offensive linemen in later rounds. Mekhi Becton: The other three OT in the Tier-1 group are 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds. Becton is a monster at 6-foot-7 and 360 pounds. Such girth projects a lineman that would have less functional athleticism, quickness, and agility. However, Becton is equal or better in these areas plus adding advantages in strength and stoutness. A former basketball player, Becton moves with fluidity, finds unblocked defenders in space with ease, and finishes his blocks with ferocity. Despite not many prospect lists having him as a first-round pick during the season, my expectation is that he “rises” up boards as more of the true analysts watch his tape. Unless red flags arise, he is at the top of my wish list for the Browns.Jedrick Wills: Wills played on the right side at Alabama but would provide value even if he stays there in the NFL. He appears the strongest of these candidates on film with an easy strength to stop incoming rushers. With outstanding balance and form, Wills projects as a fit with nearly any style offense at the next level. The Tide had him moving forward more than laterally, so there could be some concern about his overall agility if he does not test well. The clean technique and film though make him have perhaps the highest floor of any tackle prospect this year. Andrew Thomas: Thomas was my No. 1 OT prospect before the Browns switched to a more zone-heavy scheme. He has a great base and powerful hands. When tasked with the basic left tackle duties, he is stout and quick. However, his weakness– relative to the others above him here– is his lateral movement and abilities in open space. Those become more prominent deficiencies in the expected scheme. It is a testament to the strength of this tackle class that the ‘fit’ drops such a strong prospect. Tristan Wirfs: Like Wills, Wirfs played on the right side. He has a great first step and punches to initiate contact with his opposition and his ability to move laterally gives him benefits to exploit. The worry with Wirfs is a lack of agility that has caused him some consternation when needing to deal with speed rushers, which holds him below the other prospects listed here. https://waitingfornextyear.com/2020/01/cleveland-browns-nfl-draft-free-agency-offensive-tackle-2020/

Jonathan Greenard, Edge, Florida is a guy I would love to add if he lasts until the 4th round as in some projections. Wouldn't hate him earlier. Some project him as a 3-4 OLB, but he's a full-time DE to me. He's got more burst than true speed, but he's pretty consistently disruptive and has a knack for making sneaky big plays (i.e, batted passes that prevent what look like easy TDs for opponents.)
