I love Hand in My Pocket the most by her, but this will do.
2. Lady Gaga
I want her to do a piano double album one year. Half the album is all her hits as piano versions and the other half as original songs just in piano form.
She’s one of the few who has a voice and poise that rivals Freddie Mercury.
3. Idina Minzel
I’m not a fan of the songs from Wicked but you can’t deny the power of her voice. Those Eb’s she hits are ridiculous. Crazy thing is she can still sort of hit them after damaging her vocal cords.
Whoever pisses Devil off with female empowerment is my favorite.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I am a fan of female singers. There are many I listen too. Many that I love.
Billie Holiday, Patsi Cline, Sade to name a few.
But not to long ago I first heard Melody Gardot. She is extraordinary. She can write. She plays piano and guitar. Her life is part of her music in that an accident changed the course of her career.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
2 I haven't seen mentioned yet would be Debbie Harry and Tina Turner.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
Romans 10:9 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in thy heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
I wasn’t a fan of Lady Gaga until I saw A Star is Born ... what a movie
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
Goodness..........this is so hard to answer, but it's a fun topic. I have so many female singers that I love. I think I have more favorite female singers than male singers.
I know I will leave some out, but here are some of my favorites:
Sade: Sensual, mystical, vulnerable.
Stevie Nicks: Timeless.
Oleta Adams: Gospel voice that is as powerful as they come.
Nina Simone: Powerful.
Melody Gardot: A style that is unique to herself.
Gladys Knight: Always stayed true to the song.
Beth Hart: Powerful, soulful, heart-wrenching.
Patti Austin: So sweet and soulful.
Linda Rondstat: Tons of hits. Good voice.
Ella Fitzgerald: One of the smoothest and rangiest voices ever.
Sarah Vaughan: Right there w/Ella.
Roberta Flack: Killing me softly w/her words.
Lalah Hathaway: Donnie's daughter and one of the most powerful voices in the history of the universe.
Patsy Cline: Smooth and sweet.
Joni Mitchell: One of the greatest songwriters ever and her folksy voice fit her lyrics.
Tracy Chapman: Smoky voice who is as real as it gets.
Barbra Striesand: I didn't like her, but I can't deny her voice.
Alanis Morisette: Complete bad-ass who actually had a lovely voice.
Lena Horne: Pioneer.
Natalie Cole: Beautifully tragic.
Carole King: Great songwriter and underrated voice.
Celine Dion: Her renditions of a couple of those Christmas songs will bring goosebumps to anyone's skin.
Carole King is a name that came to mind for me as well
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
A Canadian pop/rock singer named Luba. So under-rated.
Whitney Houston in her prime was GOAT imo.
The chick in Heart, Ann Wilson.
Patti Loveless, Dolly Parton - what a talent she is, btw - Joplin, Joni Mitchell, who is a unique musician. No one can copy her, if they try they look ridiculous.
It is my opinion that Sade is one of the most beautiful women in the history of mankind. High cheekbones. Smooth, unblemished skin. Exquisite eye shape. Full lips. A figure that is all woman.
And a voice that suggests refinement, soulfulness, and vulnerability. Her style was laced w/class and rather understated, especially given her natural beauty. The woman always tugs at my heart. She has that rare ability to elicit both desire and protection.
You're right. I listen to a lot of her live performances and/or watch them on YouTube. It's amazing how many adults are screaming/shrieking/oohing/aahing in pure adulation when she is doing her thing on stage.
There are so many great female singers that saying one is my favorite is impossible. I don't think I could even complete a list of great female singers... But I could start one.
Janis Joplin Dolly Parton Joan Jett Stevie Nicks Blondie Pat Benatar Madonna Reba McEntire Shania Twain The Judds Mariah Carey Pink Sheryl Crow Amy Winehouse Norah jones Avril lavigne Jessie J
Perfect - I like Billie Eilish too, just would call her a favorite yet. My granddaughter introduced her music to me... smh
Or, maybe they like a genre and dislike another. Opera. I don't see anyone listed.
Style, tone, range how do we define voice quality?
Voices change over time. Yet we may love an artist more with age or not.
Some singers just hit you. They don't have to be stars.
Bonnie Raitt toiled for years before success happened. I remember seeing her in a bar in Nashville when nobody knew her name. I was like damn this girl is really good.
Pop singers. Most pop singers can sing some but that is not what is selling them.
Others struggle to survive maybe because of their "looks" or their genre.
Some are able to convey emotion and can connect with all no matter their genre.
I am not a huge country fan. Some I like but I would not call myself a country fan.
But when I heard Patsi Cline sing "Sweet Dreams" I could feel the heartbreak. She just had a way to make you feel a song.
Somehow that is what it takes. A singer just gets to you.
