“All of these costs keep going up, nobody wants to pay any more money, and at the rate we’re going, health care is going to bankrupt us,” said Bloomberg, who was then New York City’s mayor.

“We’ve got to sit here and say which things we’re going to do, and which things we’re not, nobody wants to do that. Y’know, if you show up with prostate cancer, you’re 95 years old, we should say, ‘Go and enjoy. Have a nice [inaudible]. Live a long life. There’s no cure, and we can’t do anything.’ If you’re a young person, we should do something about it,” Bloomberg said in the video.

“Society’s not ready to do that yet,” he added.

I just want to make it clear, the ONLY way a "Medicare for All system" could ever work is by denying certain people care.

Insurance companies don't deny people because they are "mean". Trust me they would rather have more customers than less. They deny people because it isn't financially feasible to cover them.

If you have 10% of your customers using up 95% of your allocated funds/profits for coverage, your going to be forced to borrow money or take a loss. That is the definition of an "unsustainable system".

A single payer/Medicare for all system will NOT work without a:

1. A panel who determines who gets coverage and who doesn't simply because its not feasible to cover everyone. People don't realize health insurance companies invest in stocks, bonds, etc to bring in profits in addition to their customers paying premiums to make the ledger balance. The government isn't going to do that, they are going to raise taxes instead.

2. The current deduction for Medicare won't even be close to what is needed to fund this...your looking at 700-800 dollars PER MONTH PER PERSON to cover everyone with Bernies Idea. This is a tax and you won't be able to get out of paying it. The Medicare system is in trouble now and only the elderly use it, putting everyone on it, thats a diaster you will have to raise taxes through the roof or insitute a national sales tax which would kill our consumer economy. Most of our economy is driven though consumer sales, a tax in addition to state taxes will kill the majority of our growth in that sector.

3. Even with Medicare for all, there are lots of things it don't cover. Look at the prescription Doughnut Hole....so Your still going to need some kind of insurance.

A single payer healthcare system in the US will be nothing more than an oppressive tax on the public, and they won't even use the money for healthcare, they will bankrupt it just like they bankrupted the SS Fund taking the money out, leaving IOU to pay for useless wars and foreign aid and adding trillions to the deficit.

The scandals at the Va hospital, denying care to vets, no way i want the government anywhere near my healthcare. If they deny your family memeber care, good luck suing the government, you think suing an insurance company is bad, you at least have a chance there, against the government your chance is about 0.

Everyone thinks this Medicare for All nonsense is just going to give them healthcare and their paycheck will look the same...I got news for ya...be huge Medicare payroll deductions, no way to get around it. You will have to force everyone to pay it, even folks who don't need it because they have insurance....700-800 dollars per month per person is what your looking at, and it don't cover everything...horrible deal for the average American.

If the Dems steal the nomination from Bernie again, Bloomberg is your foil, he's Hillary II.

It's going to be interesting to see how Bloomberg comes across, in person. As often as he's put his foot in his mouth in the past, I'm really interested to see what pearls of wisdom he can share with the country tonight, when he doesn't have the benefit of a prompter.

I'm also curious about his boxing quotient. How many will he need to stand on tonight to be tall enough to reach the microphone?

His past is far too current to give him a pass on it. He won’t get anywhere close to a majority support of minorities.

Also, I’m putting the over/under at 2 boxes.

I already grabbed my cooler, some snacks, beer, ice, ad a comfy chair. I want to be there to see it when a 95 year old with prostate cancer kicks his ass.

Its funny, but IRL, I've not heard one person say they like Bloomberg...

Mostly what I hear is that he's a more law abiding Trump.... Basically the same guy with a sense of honor to a degree..

But in the end, I don't support Bloomberg because I don't like the job being bought and paid for. which by the way is what Trump is doing again.

But, if it came down to trump and bloomberg, I vote for anyone but trump.

Hot-take. Bloomberg is a sure-fire second term for Trump. The DNC is going to have an even tougher time pushing aside Bernie this year, thereby alienating even more non-Trump votes.

Bloomberg is a slightly better version of Trump, but I don't think that'll be enough to get enough Democratic voters out to vote.

Should we not go back to a health insurance options versus health coverage options for some of this?

When I was young my parent had health insurance for us. That did not cover doctors visits and checkups and stuff, it was only for major things like ER visits and hospital stays. And did not include going to the ER for a cold or flu.

Doctor visits and checkups were paid out of pocket, and I presume were much cheaper comparatively than today due to the lack of dealing with insurance submissions and such.

I believe that to be true.

Today? Let's just say things have changed.

Nephew had a physical. Doctor then asked nephew's mom if there were any other issues, etc. She said he had a bump behind his ear. Doc. looked at it, said 'nothing to worry about." That's it.

The physical was covered under her insurance. Imagine her surprise a week later when she got a $150 bill in the mail for "second office call."

She called to ask why? She was told that looking at the bump wasn't covered by the physical.

And this is what happens when you leave healthcare in the hands of company profits over the actual care of your people. No doctor is forced to adding another charge for "looking behind someone's ear".

I hear what you and arch are saying. I'm 63 and I went from not having a physician not long ago to having countless medical issues.

The cost of all these issues is putting me--and my wife--in a a very difficult predicament. I am not saying this to complain. I don't deserve to complain.

Instead, I brought it up to reiterate the point you guys made. The cost of health care is a huge burden for many members of our society.

Anyone is a sure fire second term for Trump at this juncture. To me I'm very confused what the Democrat party is right now. Do they stand for moderate views like they used to or socialist ones that Sanders and some of the other candidates represent.

Pete trying to put those internet attacks on Bernie is BS. PURE BS. Anybody who buys into the vicious bernie bros line is brain dead or has now idea how anything online really works...

I think this line of attack makes Pete look slimy and in the establishment pocket... Mr. Status Quo.

PETE IS KILLING IT RIGHT NOW!

Sanders - Die hard Socialist\Communist, doesn't have a prayer. He is off in left field and has no idea what he's doing. Platform is not viable to the US as a whole.

Warren - Doesn't offer any plans on what she is going to do for the country. Only insults others, she is one of the most pathetic candidates.

Bloomberg - Who does this guy think he is? Thinks he can just buy the race? We need to hear more about his views but they are not too attractive to me.

Biden - Done, he needs to drop out now.

Klobuchar (sp) - Needs to drop out now. She appears more moderate than other candidates but props up her position as a woman as to why she is special and should win.
