Ryan Tucker is coming back from his four game suspension. We all pretty much think he is going to get moved to guard. Do you give him his starting job back?
In my opinion, I'd be a little hesitant to do that right now with how well the line is playing. I don't want to disrupt what is going on with these guys. The line seems to be doing fine allowing only one sack since the pit game. I wish the running game could be a bit better but I wouldn't put him in there right now.
I'm sure they wouldn't play him right away, he's got to be a bit rusty anyhow. Even if he was ready to go, I'd sit him. The line is doing just fine how they are. What's your thoughts?
How in the world can you fix something... If you don't know how it's supposed to work?

I hope they don't mess with the line and all the chemistry they are building.
Sit him on the bench...at least for next week.
Oh and cut N Dorsey...NOW!
you had a good run Hank.

I make him earn a starting spot at guard. Our line is playing well, although I do think McKinney is the weakest spot. If Tucker comes back in shape and ready to play, and displays in practice over a sustainable period that he is better than McKinney, I would have no problem letting him start. But he has to earn it. If it's close, I would keep McKinney in. In order to make a switch Tucker would have to exhibit he is better than McKinney beyond a reasonable doubt.

You make him earn his spot, same as everyone else. You don't put him in the starting lineup just because he's Ryan Tucker.
Right now, he's good depth. But, if an injury occurs, we'll see him come in quickly.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

If they screw with the line they're officially retarded...
We gave up ZERO sacks, our running game wasn't very good, but that's what the Ravens defense is good at.

Bring him back slowly... maybe insert him back in the line after the bye... keep him as a back up and/or rotate him in as needed until then.

I'm sorry but do you remember when "What do you do with ...." about an offensive linemen was because they were playing as well as Ray Charles or Stevie Wonder would do in Nascar?
What a dilema to have? To have Tucker, Friedman, Buttler, Sowells, and Dorsey as backups. Tucker and Friedman could start on a lot of teams.
We were named for a champion, Joe "The Brown Bomber" Lewis. Play like one.

Let´s start another discussion:
who should get the boot for him?
candidates:
NDorsey Butler Sowells
...I think you´ll be surprised when Butler gets kicked off the team...not Dorsey, he´s our 3rd OT right now....Butler is inactive

We need to keep Tucker, he's been with us through thick and thin, never complained once and provides us versitility because he can play both Tackle and Guard positions. Cut Player or Nat Dorsey preferably Dorsey because Player has actually done extremely well for us filling in for Zastudil, Dorsey has done pretty much nothing since coming to us in the Viking's trade a few years ago.

You in no way get rid of Tucker. At all. The guy has been proven for us, and with the crappy luck we've had with injuries on the line, we actually have depth that can step in and probably not miss a beat with Tucker. He should be a back up and possibly rotate in here and there to spell Shaffer/McKinney, but that's about it.

If he's ready to go, he takes McKinney's spot at right guard. We're still having problem running the ball, and Tucker has been our best OL for the past few years.

Tuck has been in the meetings and planning sessions all season so far, but Monday will be his first day suiting up and practicing since the preseason.
I think you start him on the 2nd team and make him earn his way back up. He needs to get back up to speed, get back into the flow of things... and most importantly he needs to demonstrate unequivocably that he is a step up for us over what is in there now.

Me too! It looked to me like Dorsey was going through the motions on that FG try in Oakland. We don't need anybody who gives less than maximum effort. IMO The Raider player just wanted to win alot more than Dorsey did.

yup, id take Tucker back...PROVIDING he is physically and mentally fit. and Drop Dorsey. He's useless as far as im concerned.
He's a less hyped, less talented, same lack of motor Big Money on the O side of the ball. Get rid of him

Tucker has been away from the team for a considerable amount of time. He's been working out on his own. He'll need time to get back into the swing of things as Purp said.
As someone said, he starts as depth and doesn't move up until he beats someone out of a job. That may be McKinney or Shaffer. But for now, those guys, thankfully, are holding their own and doing very well. We have time to bring Tucker along at his own pace.

Bingo.
Frankly, McKinney isn't the weak link. It's easy to point at him as the reason we can't run that well between the tackles, but that falls on our finesse-center and our 275 pound, $30 million dollar acquisition at guard.
No, if I'm looking at sitting someone, it's Shaffer.
Now keep in mind that I've always been for bumping Shaffer over to RT where he always belonged. The idea was that he and his overblown contract could be salvaged. Well, he's a far better right tackle than left, but when healthy, Tucker is better. Shaffer represents youth over Tucker, and in that regard, represents the future.
Let Tucker prove he's better. For a guy that's clearly been on the downside of his career, that may prove much tougher than anyone anticipates.

Well reasoned post...let's hope that Tucker does beat out someone, but until then....much appreciated.

slowly put Tucker back in the game... maybe not start him, but left him be the fresh legs for Seth McKinney and Kevin Shaffer...
Simple as that folks.

Cut Dorsey, Tuck is a back up..
Tuck is first and formost a pro he see's how this line is coming togethr just after 4 games...he will sit and watch and wait his turn to play.
tuck understands he will be a back up and will handle it with class and like the pro he is.

What a wonderful problem to have Think about it. You have Shaffer that seems to be catching on as a RT.. you have McKinney that had a few breakdowns in the Oakland game but otherwise seems like he's doing a fine job. And to make matters even more confusing, at some point, we are bound to get Bentley back.. if that happens this year, then it's really gonna be interesting to watch. As far as I'm concerned, this line is really starting to gel nicely. So ANYONE that want's to crack the starting lineup has got to earn it. If Tucker can show that he's a better RT than Shaffer, then make the move. Either way, look at the depth we suddenly have at RT and even RG. When Bentley comes back, same thing. If he is better than Fraley then you make the move. Or if he's clearly better at RG than McKinney, then you make the move.. In either case, you gotta love the depth,, I guess what I'm saying is this, these are WONDERFUL problems to have.

Shaffer's pass blocking is much better than Tucker. Tucker is the best run blocker we have. McKinney is decent but isnt as good as Tucker. Tucker goes to RG keep Shaffer right where he is.

The line is starting to gel. I don't know if inserting Tuck anywhere would be a good idea. I guess it's like others have stated: unless he's a clear upgrade, right now he's depth, and depth is a wonderful thing.

Since the line is playing well U bring Tucker along slowly..let him beat one the guys out..I agree he's a better runn blocker than Shaffer..but I would like to see him go inside.. But as was said someone..one of the backups has to go.. Then in two more weeks Bentley has to be evaluated..

I say start him...He did`nt lose his starting job to anyone...He got suspended.... He`s a pro....Imo...it`s not going to mess up the gelling of the line....He could possiably make the line play better.....Who knows...If the run game bumps up a notch that would be great... Mckinney played well...But he also knew he was filling in....It`s a messy situation....We bring back injured players to start.....I see this as the same situation.... This is great now we have an O -lineman controversy getting started.... ......Sort of a nice thing....imo

Shaffer has been solid at RT...McKinney has been inconsistent at RG. The penalties from McKinney have bothered me, but his play has been good enough. I'd make Tucker a swing man, and try to develop tackle eligible plays him in there.

I think Tucker ends up beating out McKinney for now...and Butler gets cut.
One of the many OL guys is going to be traded next year as part of a move back into Rd 1...or an additional Day 1. Shaffer is my guess.

I've got no objection with Tucker starting as long as he earns it.
For once we seem to have some nice depth at O-Line. Am I dreaming?

I wonder what the Bucs would be willing to give up in order to acquire Shaffer
With Pettitgout and Caddy Williams out for the year, and a 3-1 record to protect, one can't help but consider the possibility.
If they offered a 2nd rounder, I might bite, which would solve the Tucker problem, assuming he's still got something left......

Toad,
By what time would they have to make such a trade?
I keep reading that the coaches like what Dorsey has become...without the blocked FG of course. Tucker for now...Doresey for later after Tuck's done.
Butler's been inactive all year...buh-bye

Week 6.
There are a ton of things that would have to be considered though, such as cap ramifications and the like. Extremely unlikely that the Browns would move him. The offer would have to be pretty serious.
