Did someone put a gun to your head and make you start smoking?

No, I was 16 and didn't know any better.

I know smoking is an addiction and can be hard to quit... but it's still a choice and can be stopped...

Under the right circumstances, the right frame of mind, the ability to withstand withdrawal symptoms (it's a lot more than willpower), and support of those around you. I work with addicted people, quitting any addictive substance is not just a matter of making a choice. Do you honestly think people choose to die of lung cancer or emphysema?

don't like being taxed? Don't smoke...

Yep. It's that simple.

personally I think they should raise the tax on smoking for all of health care... since smoking probably creates the majority of cost in adult health care... (of course the same can be said for fast food haha).

Just why is the fast food part of this statement a joke? A recent study said that obesity equals smoking as the biggest drain on health care.

The bottom line is that for the 30 years that I smoked, I wanted to quit for the last 20 something. Ask anyone on this board who smokes if they wish they were smoke free. The vast majority would say yes. If it were as simple as you say, they wouldn't be smoking.

I work in an obesity clinic every monday... I know the effects of fast food on our society... hence why is was a half joke...

and again smoking is something people choose to do to their bodies... I understand that it's an addiction physically and psychologically... but I know many people who have quit... even a few who quit cold turkey...

Smoking is one of my least favorite things in the world and it's one of the most harmful things you can do to your body.... and unlike obesity smoking also can give your loved ones cancer...

Wrong - a vast study by the World Health Organization proves otherwise. Stop stating opinion as fact.
