Spain: Catalonia puts four towns under quarantine
Four towns in Spain's northeastern autonomous region of Catalonia have been put under quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The timeline is just about right for them to be where Italy was a couple of weeks back when they started the quarantine in Lombardy. Spain's case counts have been accelerating dramatically. I expect that they will be in the same boat as Italy within the seven to ten days; Germany and France will likely be a week or ten days behind that.

Here is a somewhat disconcerting chart.

It is a list of Hospital Beds by Nation, per 1000 citizens.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_OECD_countries_by_hospital_beds

So, we can see where Italy and Spain are on the list and what is happening in Italy and about to happen in Spain.
We can see that France and Germany are much higher on the list, and I think that will help them avoid the dire situations by about a week. At the top of the list, is South Korea, which has weathered all of this fairly well.

Then, there is the U.S., down at the bottom. Interestingly, with Canada, Denmark, and the U.K.

Swish,

I never said anything, but I chuckled every time I saw your impeachment thread titles.

My prepping is done.

I have 6 months worth of food.
4 months worth of dog food.
2 months worth of booze.
A full gas tank.
An extra tank of gasoline. (the lawnmower filler)
Ammo.
All I need to do is clean my gun.

The only problem I have is I have to get my Meds filled on the regular. I will have to look into the 90 day supply thing.

There’s a personal friend of mine who’s being tested today ... she has diabetes and has had a lingering fever

j/c,

China is on record as stating, that the virus is not man made ... whilst in the same breath, placing the blame on the USA as its place of origin.

I expect that spectators will not be permitted, and teams may end up off in their own separate spaces; no running of cards to a podium.... MAYBE still bringing players to a podium with Goodell there, but I don't see them doing more than that.

Aside from that, I can only see them postponing it just to allow for the spectacle of a crowd, which would be kinda stupid.

This is getting nuts. My wife called and said people are lining up to fill up gas cans and are cleaning out all the canned goods. I wonder how many people are maxing out their credit cards and wiping out their savings for this? I plan on going to Total Wines and more and stock up on bourbon.

An acquaintance works at a big company in Beachwood. Apparently a positive test from a lady whose husband was one of the original positives in NE Ohio and came to work all week feeling sick anyway. They're all waiting for a course of action to be given.

My wife, a school worker, just reminded me that during the H1N1 scare all they did was force kids to wash their hands and scrub the desks in the evening. As I recall it never went this insane like this.

because for still being a pretty big deal, H1N1 wasn't really a big deal.

It had a higher mortality rate, BUT most illnesses were a case where you got it and were recovered and done with it in three days. If you had to be hospitalized, it was a 5-7 day thing, unless it was the most severe of cases, then you were in there for 7-9 days. It was pretty rapid turnover and beds weren't getting occupied faster than they were getting emptied.

Isn't that, at least here, pretty much the case right now? I mean, you say H1N1 had a higher mortality rate (I won't get into politics here).

The gov. of Ohio has said 100,000 in Ohio have the covid virus - I understand that was a guesstimate......

But, most people that get this, I believe I read 80%? require nothing but staying at home so as to not spread it.

The County of Los Angeles recommended that all schools in the county be shut down for at least three weeks. I am among the 10.16 million people that live in LA County. That's bunch of kids not going to school.

PA just closed everything as well. Philly, Pittsburgh, Erie, etc ... 2 weeks here. It looks like most states with big cities are trending this way

Yes, and no.
For one, I question his number. A lot. The 100,000 just makes no sense in any capacity when viewed with the rest of the world and what we are NOT seeing... namely, lots of hospitalizations.

But, say that his number is accurate, and we assume that 18.5% hospitalization stat holds up. Quite simply, the state of Ohio will be filling 18,500 additional hospital beds within the next 14 days.

On average, in the US, we have 2.77 hospital beds for every 1,000 citizens.
Ohio has 11.69 million people. That means we should have roughly 32500 beds, total, in Ohio. The average hospital occupancy rate is 66%... so that means there are only, on average, 11,050 beds open at any one time.

So, IF his number is correct and all current infection rates and stuff hold true, then in the next 14 days we can expect that the state of Ohio will have a shortfall of about 8,500 hospital beds. All of which will require separation from "normal" patients. Every last hospital would be full to about 130% capacity without any extra staff or equipment.

So, I am both seriously questioning that number as well as praying like Hell they misspoke.... because if there is/was 100,000 at the time they collected the data, there will be an easy half million and more by the time we get two weeks down the road.
