I honestly dont know anything about him other than I liked the other Kevin Johnson we had

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

He was a former first round pick by the Texans. I think they cut him. He's been injured a lot. I do think he played in all 16 games last year, but I don't think he started any.

We got a couple former 1st rounders today.

And both in the secondary.

Good info.

Not saying this is how it will work out. Maybe he balls out, but at minimum, as a former 1st rounder, you'd think he would be super on special teams.

You do need a few special team studs if you want them special without playing starters there.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Years ago a lot of people were really pimping this guy...Like Vers mentioned, injuries played a role in his downfall. I was curious to see where he ended up last year. And the Bills board claims he was their 3rd best corner easily...so it couldn't hurt...be will be added depth and insurance and we need that...obviously his aid in nickel corner helps us.

We have three good outside corners in Ward, Greedy, and Mitchell.

I can't remember if Johnson is better in the slot or outside. I'm hoping he is a slot corner. I do think it was a mistake to just cut Carey. He was bad on the perimeter, but he is very good in the slot and can play S in dime packages.

I remember him at Wake Forest as a boundary I believe, ditto for the Texans...after his leg injuries I'm not sure if his pure speed every came back. However in Buffalo I know he played primarily as their slot/nickel...and fans were wanting him resigned (the other corners, Levi Wallace has done well despite going undrafted, and White is arguably one of the best CBs in the whole league) I like the fact he adds depth and experience and I assume can play nickel for us...and makes us less likely to reach for need come April.

our 4th best corner for up to 6 million?

Imagine if we used 5 million more for an MLB named Schobert.

It is 3.5 mil base. 6 mil if he hits all his incentives. We do not know what the incentives are yet.

idk, I'm perplexed by these last 3-4 signings.

we could have paid Schobet what he was asking and been better off than signing

Natson
Johnson
Joeseph
Billings
Goodson
Janovich- I would rather have kept the Hunt and Chubb duo

at least Scho would be starting... i'm not sure any of these guys will be starting.
Maybe Joeseph?

I wonder if they might try Mitchell at FS?

Just a thought.

why would we be playing Bill Belichick mid/end of the season when we can still sign a FA FS?

Having four above-average (or better) corners on the roster is never a bad thing. I am curious to see who plays in the slot. My guess is that it will be Denzel Ward.

Who is covering #1s, Greedy?

He is primarily a slot cover guy. We needed to replace TJ Carrie with a more reasonable contract.

The Johnson signing has a chance to turn out to be a good one. Provided he stays healthy, of course.

Ward is by far the most skilled of all them. He should shadow #1s all game, IMO.

But he and all of them need to step up their games this year.

Ward was a fish of water last year ... he’s a man corner who played way way way to much zone last year ... how Freddie let that happen is beyond me ... thumbsdown

Put him back in his element and we once again have a stud ... in theory anyhow ... *L* ,,,

Having natural man coverage CB's playing that much zone was pretty stupid.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Playing man the majority of time would not be a good idea. You gotta mix it up. Disguise your looks. Try and confuse the qb. Think of Darnold "seeing ghosts," Baker's harried play, and Haskins' confusion.

I think Ward can play both man and zone.

I think it'll come down to matchups.

Greedy on bigger bodies, Ward on quicker, smaller guys. Smaller guys aren't always in the slot anymore.

I still remember 6'3" Simmie Cobbs putting in work on Ward to the tune of 11 catches for 149 and a TD when OSU played Indiana in 2017.

I do want to see how both of our young CBs look this season. Can they/will they add good weight while maintaining their athleticism?

Kevin Johnson looking forward to AFC North competition
New Browns DB training in Arizona during COVID-19 pandemic
https://923thefan.radio.com/articles/kevin-johnson-cleveland-browns-afc-north-competition

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Kevin Johnson grew up in Maryland a Baltimore Ravens fan.

As one of the newest members of the Browns secondary, Johnson will face them twice in 2020.

“I’m really excited about playing in that division,” Johnson told Bull and Fox in an exclusive interview Thursday afternoon on 92.3 The Fan. “I played the Baltimore Ravens a couple of times already in my career so every time we play a team like that, it’s kind of special for me. I’m excited about it.”

The Bengals are expected to take Joe Burrow No. 1 overall. He’ll have A.J. Green to throw to. The Steelers will see the return of Ben Roethlisberger, who has JuJu Smith-Schuster. Reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and the Ravens saw Mark Andrews emerge last year to Pro Bowl status.

Suffice it to say, Johnson and his teammates in the secondary are going to have their hands full this fall.

“I’m looking forward to going up against all of them, every single last one of them that I get a chance to go against, I’m going to give them my best. Going against receivers, it’s about how you play, how you execute your assignments and your techniques and play ball your style.”

Johnson, who likely will slide into the nickel role vacated by veteran T.J. Carrie, is among 11 players brought in so far this offseason by executive vice president of football operations and general manager Andrew Berry.

“As far as the moves they’ve made, I’m excited about them,” Johnson said.

“I feel like the Browns were a really good fit as far as me coming in with a new coaching staff, a new culture that I really believed in. [It’s] A new opportunity kind of for everybody on the team to come out with a new team, to be able to compete and win, and push for the playoffs.”

Johnson explained why he feels he is a perfect fit for Joe Woods’ new defense in Cleveland.

“Just the type of player they’re looking for,” Johnson said. “I’m that type of player who can be versatile, play inside, play outside and I just think I can be effective in those schemes. The schemes he was describing to me and were they have me playing at, I think I can fit that mold very well.”

The former 16th overall pick 2015 NFL Draft by Houston Texans believes Woods’ background as a former player will benefit him significantly in 2020.

“Just the new culture, new ideas, the defensive scheme I will learn,” Johnson said. “I believe in that. His defensive backs background, for me seeing it through those same eyes and kind of agreeing with all the movement he’s making back there I just really believed in it and it’s where I wanted to be.”

As the nation and sports world comes to a screeching halt, Johnson has been spending his time in Scottsdale, Arizona with two other NFL defensive backs trying to stay football ready.

“We just train every day,” Johnson said. “We just train and do our consistent routine we’ve been doing the past three years. We’ve still been able to get it in so it’s not really affecting us in that way.”

The Browns were scheduled to begin their offseason program on April 6. With NFL facilities closed, the likelihood of seeing it completely wiped out, including OTAs and the June minicamp, is a real possibility.

“It’s a unique situation but the one thing about it is that everyone in the league going through the same thing so we’re all going to have a clean slate. It is what it is. I’m going to be ready to play whenever it’s time to play football.”

Think it's a solid pickup. We will need help on slot receivers. Hope he gets it done for us and helps win us some games.
