I think that with an analytics based front office, we will prioritize LT, CB, QB, or pass rusher in the 1st round, until and unless we have these all well filled, and have a single crying need at a different position.
Safety and LB are much bigger needs than another CB imo...
Analytics does not prioritize need over positional value.
Analytics is not the only factor to consider.
We'll see what happens. It's less than a month away,
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
I think signing Kevin Johnson put an end to the drafting a CB talk, we need a LT first then Safety and LB along with run stuffers at DT. I really think after we get our LT our Offense is set and this draft should be all Defense ... JMHO
John 3:16 Jesus said "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

QB???
If they feel that Baker is the answer at QB, and it seems they do, then you cross that one off the list.
Those 4 positions, all things being equal, are the analytics 1st round Bible, especially in the top 10 ... so that leaves LT, CB, or pass rusher as premiums ... and I bet we take one of these positions in the 1st round.

I think that it is funny how analytics gets so much criticism for trading down yet in almost all of the mock drafts posted here that dawgtalkers have done, they trade down.
That's because the draft site that is used has offers every turn for us to trade down .. but it is almost impossible for someone other than the draft program to trade up.
The Cleveland Browns - WE KNOW QUARTERBACKS ( Look at how many we've had ... )
Anyways I really like Charlie Casserly's mock draft for us.
1. #10 Andrew Thomas OT Some consider him to be the best LT pick.
2. #41 Damien Lewis OG wow good solid RG we get a good to great OL grade now with Thomas (how can you go wrong with a Thomas playing LT...lol ) Thomas, Bitonio, Tretter, D. Lewis, Conklin. Real solid OL maybe best we ever had.
3. #74 Willie Gay Jr. LB - size and speed Good Pick! 6'1" 243 4.46 Kid drops cause he has NCAA violations with a tutor - sucky rule but he missed a lot of games
3. #97 Brandon Jones Safety - again a nice pick up as he has pretty good speed. 4.47 for a safety is very good Like many college Safeties weakness will be in coverage all depends how adapts to the NFL...but man coverage would be a negative, however Zone he can be a stud.
4. #115 Jordan Elliot DT - actually a steal at 115 grades pretty high for this spot a theme here on our Defensive picks is with Speed. 5.02 40 speed 4.73 shuttle.
I like this draft...shores up the OL giving us one of the best ever since 1999.
Defense added speed at LB, Safety and DT plugging some holes and adding some back up at D...Not sure if FA Billings nixes the addition of Elliot???

Except for LT Thomas, they would not be my first choices at those spots, but I would be OK with those picks. I like Thomas in the 1st, Ashtyn Davis, FS, in the 2nd, Logan Wilson, ILB, in the 3rd, followed by whoever else...

Every time I see Queen mocked to us I’m glad .. I like the idea of Becton, Queen, and Delpit ... great

Using the First Pick site (where that was from), the system offers you trades when your pick is up, or an option to initiate a trade. You can also try to trade up on another teams pick, but unless it's overwhelmingly in favor of the other team, it won't be accepted, and once your offer is rejected, the system proceeds without letting you improve your offer.

John 3:16 Jesus said "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
It’s Spring Break for most school districts right now, though with buildings closed it’s hard to tell much of a difference. Spring Break means the NFL Draft is coming very soon, and that means it’s time for an updated Browns mock draft.
These projections are the players I believe the Browns would take in the given situations. They do not necessarily represent the choices I would make at the given picks, though in the later rounds my own preferences do hold influence.
For context with the first pick at No. 10 overall, I simulated the first nine picks 20 times at The Draft Network and averaged out the players’ draft positions. The results:
1 – Joe Burrow
2 – Chase Young
3 – Jeff Okudah
4 – Mekhi Becton
5 – Tua Tagovailoa
6 – Justin Herbert
7 – Isaiah Simmons
8 – Tristan Wirfs
9 – Derrick Brown
The No. 10 pick is going to be an offensive tackle, more than likely. With South Carolina DT Javon Kinlaw still on the board I do think Browns GM Andrew Berry and his draft crew will at least discuss taking him. The same would be true if Clemson LB Isaiah Simmons, whose draft slot appears quite volatile, is still there. But unless the Browns make a move for Trent Williams, left tackle has to be the top priority.
Becton and Wirfs, my top two choices personally for the No. 10 pick, are gone. That leaves Andrew Thomas, Jedrick Wills and Josh Jones as the viable options for the Browns. My belief is the Browns would target Wills in that scenario as the best fit for Kevin Stefanski’s offense and the higher floor.
I don’t see this Browns regime being overly enamored with Thomas and his technical inconsistencies he showed at Georgia, not over what Wills showed at Alabama anyway. Jones is very intriguing but is the least NFL-ready, a rough gamble for a Browns team built to win right now. In a trade back, or if the Browns land Trent Williams in a trade to buy a year or two, I think Jones becomes much more viable.
The pick: Jedrick Wills, OT Alabama
Second round With offensive tackle now situated, it’s time to bolster some other positions with more long-term youth and potential. Linebacker, wide receiver, cornerback, interior offensive line and safety all are needs to varying degrees.
This is where the concept of positional value and draft value comes into play. At 41, there is still great depth at WR and IOL. There are good talents available, but little differentiates the players available here and those that could be had a round or two later. So for now, I cross those off for Berry & Co. in this edition.
Linebacker and cornerback do have a bit more of a dropoff. But the biggest dropoff in talent projected available here versus what will be available at the next Browns pick is at safety. While the team did (smartly) sign Karl Joseph and Andrew Sendejo, the depth remains weak. Sendejo is a one-year veteran stopgap, and Joseph comes with durability concerns. It’s a great time to snag a safety with developmental upside and athletic promise.
Enter Jeremy Chinn. He physically dominated the competition at the FCS level at Southern Illinois. He needs technical refinement and experience at more advanced coverage concepts, but the athleticism is abundant. He can play right away in basic zone coverage and he’s ready in run defense and blitzing concepts in the “hang” safety role, something that Joe Woods’ defenses have used in prior stops.
The pick: Jeremy Chinn, S, Southern Illinois
Third round First pick: Davon Hamilton, DT, Ohio State
Second pick: Ezra Cleveland, OT, Boise State
I wrote about Hamilton recently and his potential to fit with the Browns’ new defensive scheme. From the piece,
He’s a smart interior presence with quick feet and good balance through contact as he pursues the play.
If Hamilton can get more creative in his pass-rush arsenal, he has the athleticism to become a pretty good interior rusher.
Cleveland to Cleveland is cheeky, but he’s exactly the type of developmental offensive tackle to take in this range. The movement skills and footwork are there, but Cleveland must add functional strength and power to his repertoire before he can hope to hold up in the NFL. He’d take over the Drew Forbes role as the redshirt tackle while Forbes completes his transformation inside.
Fourth round The pick: Devin Duvernay, WR, Texas
Duvernay was a wildly productive slot receiver who improved his all-around game as a senior. He’s a bull with the ball in his hands and does a great job catching the ball away from his body and instantly transitioning from receiver to runner. Duvernay would make a great inside complement to Odell Beckham Jr. with his dynamic speed and running skills. He’s not a player who will reliably win with agility or precision.
Fifth round The Browns traded their fifth-round pick to the Bills
Sixth round The pick: Ron’Dell Carter, EDGE, James Madison
Carter transferred from Rutgers and was a big hit with FCS power JMU. He racked up numerous national honors after posting 12 sacks and 27.5 TFLs as a redshirt senior. He’s 6-3 and a long-armed 269 pounds and proved during the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl week he could win both inside and outside. In the two FCS playoff games I watched, Carter jumped out with his length and motor off the edge.
The Browns did check Carter out during the season, albeit under the John Dorsey regime at the time.
Seventh round The pick: David Woodward, LB, Utah State
An early entrant who would likely be a round or two higher if he hadn’t suffered a season-ending injury. Great football IQ, very good tackler, but a limited athlete with some durability concerns.
Like the picks, although there is no way Cleveland lasts until 3rd round.
agreed

I know he wont be our first pick, but I’d move up in the 2nd to get Queen from LSU

I expect he'll be a late 1st round pick and he's the sort of player who'll go on to have a great career and people will look back on the draft and wonder how so many teams let him go without drafting him.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

Just curious .... how far off your big board do u go to get a LBer in the first two rounds? ...
Do u think that need is big enough for going 4 or 5 or more spots down your big board for a LBer in the first 2 rounds this year ...
I would NEVER EVER go 4-5 spots down my board to draft for need. Now, there is a caveat. If those 4 guys were separated by less than a .1 of a point, then you can draft for need. However, that isn't how the grades end up.
Bro, the "smart" thing is to think long-term. Draft the BPA almost all the time. Think of it like this. You are investing in your long-term future. You buy stocks that will pay handsome dividends over a long period of time.
Most football guys know this. Some do a much better job of sticking to that plan than others. The problem comes from GMs or powerful HCs who know they have to win now to keep their jobs. So, they forego the future and draft for need. They are hoping to win games in the short term to save their jobs. Meanwhile, they are mortgaging the long-term future of the organization.
See, this is one of the areas where I value analytical thinking. I am not sure our analytics guys have done a good job in that particular area in the past.
I understand what your saying ... and agree with it for the most part ...
I’m just not sure what the solution is at LBer if we don’t draft at least 1 real early ... like ends 1 or 2 ...
Were ready to win now ... we clearly need major help at LBer ... right now as far as i can tell Mack is our best one ... am I missing something ...
Was just curious as to what your thoughts were and if or when you’d be willing to move away from BPA ...
And bro ... until KJ none of our mgmt. has been any good at anything ... *L* .... even Sashi made a few major analytical mistakes in FA and just some horrible draft picks ....
I understand your concern. I just really believe in long-term solutions rather drafting for need.
It's too late now, but they should have kept Joe and maybe even Kirko. Not sure about the latter, though. I wish Dorsey would have re-signed Joe during the year. I wish the new FO would have worked out a deal w/him. I think this is a major fail. But, maybe we will get lucky and a guy will fall to us in a spot where he is worthy of being picked.
Analytically speaking, I think that it is intelligent to address needs through FA and trades and use long-term planning in the draft by drafting BPA.
One thing we'll miss w/Dorsey is how he worked trades. Our WRs were pathetic. He traded a 4th round pick for Landry. LMAO.........that was a steal. He then trades Peppers [an in the box SS] and a first round pick for OBJ. Two steals.
He trades the incompetent Kizer for Randall. The latter did flame out here, but Kizer is never going to be a good qb.
He got draft picks for chumps like Hogan, Kessler, Corey Coleman, etc.

With those picks ... whose gonna be our lbers? ...
That’d be one glaring arse big hole ...
We will be playing 4-2-5 a lot. Or 5-2-4
We have Mack Wilson, Taki Taki returning for their 2nd season and usually there is a big improvement from year 1 to 2. Mack is further along than Taki Taki but I saw improvement during the season last year.
We got Goodsen and he seems to be a good addition not a pro bowler but should be solid. The guy that could come along and surprise us will be Willie Harvey. He has good size and speed. He has always over achieved. Again young, I think he also is in his 2nd season??? So we have Youth that do not have much assured results in their upcoming play but could have positive results fact is we just don't know. I really liked Mack Wilson and I think his football intelligence is what enabled us to let Schobert go and save around 10 mil in cap meaning picking our spots for young players to achieve a 2nd contract. Don't know whether that was a smart act? or a Mistake? Time will tell.
But the key will be our DL and in the passing game it will be our DBs not LBs
