You can do that. I think before the year is out it's going to bottom out around 2008 levels or lower. The fed can't prop it up 20 trillion worth. They've just pumped 3 trillion into the 1%/markets in the last month or so between the bailout bills and the independent Fed action. Do you think they can do that forever? This is why we're staring down another great depression, protecting the wealthiest while crapping on the poor and working class.
Wouldn't surprise me if we see pitchforks soon.

The Fed is simply creating a bridge until we get back to work and the economy resumes.

When they built a bridge in Alaska that led nowhere that's what you called. A bridge to nowhere.

The Fed is simply creating a bridge until we get back to work and the economy resumes. No they are not. They are propping up a free market that is full of bubbles that are way over due to bust. The great adjustment is coming and I hope you are smart enough to be out before you take the great bath. And I'm not wishing for or rooting for that, it's common sense at this point. 30+% unemployment is going to cost everyone. I think the fed is delaying the inevitable to buy time for the 1% to shift their investments into safer holdings before the depression. There is no other reason to spend this much propping up the stock markets when the same 3 trillion could have paid wages for the duration of this pandemic and avoided the larger part of this economic impact. They chose to save the wealthy, again.

The 1% is not the only ones who benefit from the Stock Market. Most of the middle class's retirement is tied up in their 401K. This affects everybody.
Stop acting like it doesn't.

Stop acting like it doesn't. Exactly. And those 401k's are invested in the markets. And the unions, any and all of them, are invested in the market on behalf their union members.

The congress spent federal dollars to build the bridge. The president did not veto the bill. The federal government built the bridge.

I pointed out that these bailouts are going to the wealthiest, period. I don't want to see working people or poor people hurt by this, but handing trillions to the 1% during this pandemic is in my opinion criminal. You don't find it sad that all those retirement 401ks and non top income earner owned stock only make up 15% yet they are bailing out the wealthy at rates 1000s of time more than working people? You can't see the forest for the trees and the point keeps flying over your head. Mark my words, those that lose everything in all of this will be almost 100% working class and the 3 trillion just poured into the accounts of the 1% could have 100% made all of those working class folks whole if the inevitable crash wipes them out. But their bailout will never come... watch and see.

Taking profits on some investments now.
Beginning to think we will see another dip as the reality of earnings hits this market.
I am selling anything having to do with crowds of people showing up but have increased holdings of companies that make it possible for us to stay home.
I am Leary of small cap stocks as many may go belly up.

I can buy thru Fidelity. (paper G and S)
I buy and sell all my Physical thru a local coin shop that has treated me very well over many years.
There are thousands of places to buy and sell. Google, buying and selling Gold and Silver near me and shop around.

I’ve been stacking silver for a few years now. It’s a nice hedge. Prices a couple of weeks ago dropped so low my local bullion dealer was completely out of bars and rounds in his cases and placing only large orders. He ended up selling me some Canadian Elizabeth 2’s and a couple Australian Hammerheads at spot. A great deal. I essentially made money just walking out the door with them.

Anybody watching this chicanery today? In short (no pun intended), reddit users have taken billions from the "billionaire boys club" hedge funds by orchestrating buys on stocks that were being decimated by short-sellers. Trading has been halted by many platforms. Billionaires crying that "this isn't fair".

Reddit is one of the few treasures on the internet.

Sell off is already in full force. A lot of reports indicating hedge funds are scared and liquidating short positions.
My Firstrade account won't let me short anything going down (although they'll let me buy and lose money) or buy anything that is going up. I'm talking anything associated with the reddit induced volatility.
Bunch of guns to a bunch of heads today.

I think it's a landmark day for "we the people". After the '09 crash, our government did NOTHING to stop the spiraling crash induced by short-selling. Instead of a painful correction, we had Armageddon and a bailout.
Joe Little Guy took awhile to get the message and figure out how to work together, but finally said "hold my beer". I LOVE it.
Now we have to address the fact that "little guy" gets locked out today. Absolute b.s.

I think it's bs that I can't short a position when I have 10x the amount, liquid, in my account. Guess I'll be changing brokers just out of principal.

I'm glad this is happening in one aspect, just to point awareness to the disparity.
For years, decades actually, we've watched fat cat institutions literally drive companies into the ground through their short floating so that they could profit off of their corpses.
Now that they are getting burned for it by people who are doing the same thing in reverse, they are crying foul. Total BS on their part, but now it's out in the open.
I do worry about how some of the retail investors will be left off when the bubble does eventually burst.
I'm a big proponent of open markets and basing an economy on capitalism, but what we have seen nowadays and - since Reagan honestly - is a bastardization of that ideal. The whole premise of the foundation of our economy is that you are supposed to have an even playing field, competition, and the companies that put out a good mix of best products or prices organically come out ahead. There should be a free-flowing ladder between the classes, with equal opportunity, based on effort and innovation.
Nowadays, there are so many mega-corporations, M&As and whatnot so that collusion has overtaken competition and the economy and government is controlled by those at the top. You see the rules being changed constantly with double-speak.
For instance, mega-corps say that they want deregulation. That's a half-truth. They want regulations gone that they feel hurt their bottom line. On the flipside, they lobby for bureaucratic legislation, such as meeting certain arbitrary industrial qualifications or parameters, that would be overly burdensome or expensive for burgeoning small or mid-sized businesses to deal with, thus keeping the competitive field narrowed.
What we are seeing right now is just the next example. Hedge funds were saying "that's just capitalism" when they were shorting the crap out of businesses, but then cry "this isn't fair" when it happens to them and demand everything be shut down.
It reminds me of the scene in The Dictator when Aladeen is running the 100M. He shoots the gun after he starts running the race, and then shoots the other contestants with the gun after they start catching up to him.
End of rant.

There's a vast difference between capitalism and unbridled capitalism. As with any system there needs to be checks and balances to avoid abuse.
But then they don't like that. Which is why the word regulations is a vile term to those wishing to take advantage of a rigged system that favors them.

I'd even go so far to say that it is beyond "unbridled" to being "post-unbridled" capitalism. Unbridled got us here. The inmates run the asylum already, and now have put rules and procedures in place that prevent anyone but those inmates from running it.

It's funny how capitalism is great when it makes you (not you specifically, OCD) wealthy through manipulative tactics, but then it needs to be regulated when it is someone else doing it.
