The Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded a $55 million contract for N95s this month to Panthera Worldwide LLC, which is in the business of tactical training. One of its owners said last year that Panthera’s parent company had not had any employees since May 2018, according to sworn testimony.

It also has no history of manufacturing or procuring medical equipment, according to a review of records produced as a result of legal disputes involving the company and its affiliates.

Panthera Worldwide’s parent company filed for bankruptcy last fall, and the LLC is no longer recognized in Virginia — where it has its main office — following nonpayment of fees, which according to Virginia code results in “the existence of a limited liability company” being “automatically canceled.”

....

The FEMA contract with Panthera, which was awarded without competitive bidding, has a start date of April 1, according to a summary. Lizzie Litzow, a FEMA spokeswoman, said the Panthera contract is for 10 million masks, adding, “Panthera is not a manufacturer, they are a distributor of N95 masks.”

The price that FEMA is paying Panthera per mask, about $5.50, is significantly higher than what the government pays companies such as 3M, which charges as little as 63 cents per N95 mask, with an average cost of about $1.50 for more advanced models, according to a price index. Prestige Ameritech, the largest domestic mask manufacturer, is charging FEMA about 80 cents per mask for the government’s order of 12 million N95 respirators, part of a $9.5 million contract that started April 7.

WWE deemed 'essential business' in Florida, resumes live shows

WWE was deemed an "essential business" in Florida, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said Monday, allowing the company to resume live television shows from its Orlando training facility and Full Sail University in Winter Park.

The decision, outlined in an April 9 memo from Gov. Ron DeSantis' office, could open the door for other sports to resume in the state.

According to Demings, WWE initially was not designated as essential and therefore was not exempt from the state's shelter-in-place order, which took effect April 3 and runs through at least April 30. That decision was reversed after "some conversation" with DeSantis' office, Demings said Monday during a news conference.

Essential businesses that are supposed to remain open during Florida's stay-at-home order include those in the health care, financial, energy, food, communications and transportation sectors. According to the memo sent by the governor's office on Thursday, recent additions to the list of "essential services" in the state include "employees at a professional sports and media production with a national audience -- including any athletes, entertainers, production team, executive team, media team and any others necessary to facilitate including services supporting such production -- only if the location is closed to the general public."

A spokesperson from DeSantis' office told ESPN on Monday that such services were characterized as essential "because they are critical to Florida's economy."

Asked if this would apply to UFC events, the spokesperson said, "The memo does not specify specific sports, as long as the event location is closed to the general public."

The UFC has suspended all events and does not have a time frame for a return, though UFC president Dana White has made it clear that he wants to resume as soon as possible.

Starting Monday with its Raw program, WWE will run live shows without fans after several weeks of taped programming, a spokesperson confirmed to ESPN on Saturday.

"We believe it is now more important than ever to provide people with a diversion from these hard times," WWE said in a statement. "We are producing content on a closed set with only essential personnel in attendance following appropriate guidelines while taking additional precautions to ensure the health and wellness of our performers and staff. As a brand that has been woven into the fabric of society, WWE and its Superstars bring families together and deliver a sense of hope, determination and perseverance."

WWE has three TV shows per week: Raw (USA Network), NXT (USA Network) on Wednesday and SmackDown (Fox) on Friday.

Mountain Of Corpses: 17 Bodies Found Crammed Inside NJ Nursing Home Morgue

Investigations are underway after authorities discovered a morbid scene inside a morgue of one of New Jersey's largest nursing homes.

An anonymous tip led Andover Township Police Department officers to respond and investigate the Andover Subacute and Rehabilitation Center Monday following the report of “improper storage of corpses,” said the New York Post.

The tip told police that a corpse was being improperly stored inside a shed outside the nursing home. Police who arrived at the facility told The Week the body was nowhere to be found, but further investigation led them to 17 corpses stuffed inside the nursing home's four-body morgue.

The 17 bodies were among the 68 recent deaths linked to the Andover Subacute and Rehabilitation Center I and II. Also included in the discovery are two nurses, while 26 of those who died had tested positive for COVID-19, said the New York Times.

“They were just overwhelmed by the number of people who were expiring,” said Andover Township Police Department chief Eric Danielson, through the Post.

Notwithstanding the grim discovery, Danielson's station and the Sussex County Sheriff's Office were bombarded by complaints over the weekend. The nursing home's staff, as well as family members of the residents have been nagging the facility's administration on the lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), infection control and the transparency regarding the number of people infected by, or have died from, COVID-19.

To ease the burden of the staff, Sussex County Sheriff Michael Strada provided the facility with PPEs which they had received from the state at the county level.

At the same time, Danielson said that the Newton and Lakeland First Aid Squad were required to decontaminate onsite after they helped transport the bodies to Newton Medical Center, said the New Jersey Herald.

They have the greatest concentration of people in urban areas where people are closely grouped together.

But it's spreading. More rural areas and smaller towns are starting to be hit harder as time goes on.

why? Fairly obvious. High population concentration. Hell the governor of Michigan can’t even get the majority of the population to stay home while trump roast’s that Gov. and tells people we need to get back to work now without testing first. Pffft fat trump

High Population Density - it's not even a US thing, in every country it is the population centers that are getting hit first.

In the US places with high population densities are predominantly democratic.

Some places are full - hospitals - apparently. And then the local/county hospitals are empty. And, according to an article I read today in our community paper, the smaller hospitals got ready for an onslaught of covid patients by doing what they were told: Cancelling elective surgeries, etc.

They are now losing money, daily. They are forcing employees to take MTO - mandatory time off - for which they are not paid. Operational funds are running out, and the hospital is working with their creditors (banks) to keep enough money on hand to stay open in the coming weeks.

You can find the article in the Archbold Buckeye, but, it's a 'pay' site.

A bunch of Doctors put together a website to gather info about the course of Covid on patients with IBD.

It looks like IBD patients dont have more to worry about than normal people. Which makes me happy, as I have Crohns and was quite concerned as it affects my immune system.

I stated a FACT bro. I posted a while back on these boards that 8 or the ten hardest hit states were democratic states as far as their governors. At the time I didn't blame either side. I didn't point fingers at either side, and I didn't blame either side. I am still not blaming either side. I am only pointing out facts. So why do you have a problem with that?

There are many facts in this world that are neither useful or insightful.

31% didn't pay rent this month

When coronavirus eases, 450,000 colorado renters could face eviction

This is why there is pressure to reopen the economy. Beating the virus isn't going to do any good if we're all homeless after this.

My wife has her own business as a CRNA. It's why we file our taxes separately. However, there is still a huge Anesthesia group that pays her and the other independent Anesthesia members.

Once the Elective Surgery thing was cancelled, the parent group cut wages by 50 percent. There has been some back and forth, but this stuff is real.

And this is the problem with the rigidity of these lockdowns and executive orders. If these areas aren't seeing cases in any consequential degree, they should be operating as close to normal as they can. What happens when that hospital gets shut down then that area happens to see a spike? OR what if it doesn't get shut down, but all those workers they furlowed found work somewhere else and aren't available?

Here's the bottom line. It's something anyone who follows the news already knows. It's not a mystery or something being hidden from view. That's why I was surprised that you needed to ask the question.

It has nothing to do with "a side'. I'm actually surprised more people aren't doing a little more research over something so serious when information is right at everyone's fingertips.

But I guess that's just me.

Not really replying to what you said here Pit, I agree with you.

As far as the worst hit areas, you will notice most are major travel hubs.

NYC, Philly, LA, Denver, Seattle, Miami, Atlanta, Detroit.

You're most certainly correct. To a lesser extent, but certainly effected are travel destinations such as Vegas and Nashville. People came and went from all over the nation which helped spread the virus.

This is exactly what I was talking, Trumps biggest regret in all of this is going to be kowtowing to the racist cries. He should have shut down all international travel a month earlier....AMERICA FIRST right?

Until they call you a racist, you coward.

Trump has been absolutely unhinged today. Tweeting like a spoiled brat who just got his car taken away by his parents.

but of course we got the gullible's on this board who calls these hissy fits 'real leadership' and 'the leftist media's fault'

yea, its their fault you voted a man child. just like children, maga hatters can never take responsibilities for their own actions. its always someone else's fault with the right. yet got the nerve to tell others to pick themselves up by the bootstraps.

pathetic.

Meanwhile as Trump Tweets, other countries pull together. There are some very lovely stories around the globe about brave and special things people have done to appreciate or care for other people. Personally I like these 2 stories and find them heart warming.

Trump fired the heads of EPA, disregarded warnings from WHO, called it “political posturing”

Asleep at the wheel, during the biggest event in a century. Between anthropogenic climate change, and pandemic disinformation. I would say FOX news is closer to a terrorist organization, than a media outlet.

I know, you have your guns, hypocritical religious beliefs, and rights. Please sit down, your rhetoric is antiquated, and has grown tired..

He will fall, and fall hard come November, and the world will rejoice.
