Ok, I went to look to see who the Libertarian candidate is and it looks like there are 20 of them.. do they even have a primary? Which one of these folks is going to end up running?

It keeps getting worse. I still can't believe the choices are Trump and a 77yo dementia patient. The last time I voted for one of the party nominees was W's first term....and that was more because he wasn't Gore. I'm done voting for someone because they suck less than the other guy. To me, giving someone my vote means that I support what they stand for.

An honest question, why do you think we end up with such bad choices?
If you listen to older video clips of presidential debates, speeches, everything its much more professional. Do you think it boils down to:
-Must have a lot of money to run for president? -Will get taken to the woodshed by the media -Will have to deal with constant attacks -Must be able to energize, have people believe in you -Must be a good speaker and connect with people
I bet half the people on the board could be better candidates in 2020 than what we have running. Normal people just don't run and to me that's sad. I'd like to think that someone could become president if they wanted to with the right message. Smart, qualified people choose not to run because they know better. I also think behind the scenes people change once they get into the office. I'm not sure what happens exactly but something does.
Obviously, there are a number of reasons, and many are inter-connected.
If I had to pick 1, then it's our 2 parties. They've consolidated so much political power that they really don't even have to consider the will of the people. To an extent, the Democratic primary has been a great example (last time, especially). You have the DNC mob bosses steering who the nominee will be. It's so ridiculous that, IMO, they should just drop the charade and do away with all the fanfare and window dressing, and tell us who they want/will the candidate.
And we let it happen. The crappy part is that we deserve all of this. If we woke up and decided 'enough is enough' and demand more from our political representatives, I think we could change things for the better.
IMO, we need at least 1 more major political party. At this point, I don't even care which one it is. Repubs and Dems need to be told that their shenanigans won't fly anymore. Until they get smacked in the face, they'll continue status quo.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.
