Our top two wr's are coming off major surgeries.

Are you privy to information that neither will be ready for the season? That is a serious question. There is no doubt you are more in-tune w/new info than I am.

Both are in the top 25. We have 2 TE's that are more than capable and we have 2 RB's our top 25.

We definitely need an LT and the rest of the help we need is on the defensive side of the ball.

LT, MLB, and S are our top 3 after that... it's all depth and replacing players that won't be here next year.

I think depth at wide receiver is a need but we don't need to go crazy (obviously). If either one of OBJ or Jarvis Landry aren't able to play or get hurt we have no depth a receiver. Re-signing Rashard Higgins would go a long way.

Coach Kevin Stefanski assumes Olivier Vernon will be member of 2020 Browns

New coach Kevin Stefanski said Saturday he is under the assumption that eight-year veteran defensive end Olivier Vernon will be a member of the Browns this season.

The team failed to address the position in the first six rounds of the NFL Draft, with the seven round-event concluding Saturday. But Stefanski said the inactivity did not mean there was a message being sent to Vernon about his future.

Vernon, 29, is due a team-high $15.5 million in salary and bonuses this season. A knee injury cost him six games in 2019, his first year in Cleveland after he was traded by the New York Giants. He finished with 3.5 sacks and 26 tackles in 10 starts.

Asked whether Vernon will be a member of the 2020 Browns, Stefanski said in a Zoom video conference, "That's my assumption. Obviously, I think Olivier is a really great player, unfortunately he was banged up a little bit. We look forward to all our guys contributing next year.

"But I wouldn't say it was a message of any sort, the fact we didn't draft a defensive end. We're not in the business of sending messages via the draft. We trusted the board and as the players came up, we made sure that we had the right people for the job."

Early this month, the Browns were reportedly interested in free agent Jadeveon Clowney to bookend Myles Garrett. Clowney, 27, who played for Seattle last season, remains unsigned.

We absolutely should keep Vernon. He played well last year when he was healthy.

Our defense fell apart once he was injured.

We don't have proven LB'ers but they are young, have the right attitude and have depth around them at other positions.

I also totally forgot that we have Adrian Clayborne now too ... that definitely helps the DE slot

What’s not to get? We had a question mark about DE because Vernon is expensive, was injured last year and we have a new staff that might not value him. We didn’t draft a DE and thus, unless we sign Clowney, Vernon is likely to stick around.

Terrible article title. She also sounded like a complete moron in the player press conferences the last couple of days. Wouldn't have thought to put her in same category with Grossi and MKC but welcome to that club.

I prefer not to contact her. I like Vernon and this is looking like an article to bushwhack our drifters about not getting this position addressed or maybe forcing OV out somehow.

Not sure why this was the story she felt needed done, really based on nothing, and all this while ignoring the draft. Doesn't seem to get it, and it strikes me as a reach to write negatively about us. Disappointed in her.

I was excited for the draft, then this.

I think the problem when looking at Vernon is that there are 2 separate expectations of him:

If he's supposed to give the anchor the opposite side that opens things up for Garrett, maybe get an occasional sack of his own, then I think he meets that expectation. I don't know if that justifies his salary, but regardless...

However, I recall that when we did sign him he was characterized as a guy who hadn't really played up to his full potential/ability and that coming to Cleveland would be a great opportunity and he'd be making real contributions to the sack totals. He had what, 4 sacks last year? And I think most of those came after Garrett was out? (I could be wrong). Basically he was supposed to be an impact player for us. In that regard I don't think he quite lived up to that.

You don't pay someone that much to simply benefit from bring on the opposite side of Garrett. There are younger and cheaper guys that can do that. Granted, we didn't give him his current contract, but he was most definitely brought on to be an impact player.

Me thinks the problem with Vernon is some think stats are the be all end all ... its all they understand ...

Vernon played much better than the stats rule crowd gives him credit for ... did he play up to his billing ... naaa ... was he near as bad as most portray him to have been ... not even close ...

He’s still a good player and unless we get someone to replace him like Clowney (i want nuttin to do with him unless its a one year deal ...) Vernon’s going no where ... nor should he ...

Vernon is very good at setting the edge from his DE spot.

He was still really good, and good against the run and bringing pressures and hurries. He just didn't get many sacks.

For the stats crew, look up his pass rush win rate.... it was up there pretty high. We absolutely missed him when he got hurt, and when we lost him and Myles, we were toast.

As for Clowney... I'd like him on a two or three year deal, if we can get it. Vernon isn't here after this year which leaves a gaping hole at DE. Three years from Clowney keeps us rocking the DLine in the short term and we can start to backfill with drafted talent.

ain't nothing wrong with that.

and I'm good if we get him and if we don't.

I just think of the potential and versatility of our DLine... like, a 5-2 or 5-1-5 where we have Vernon, Myles, Clowney, Richardson, and OGun all out there together; or just a rotation where we can keep Vernon, Myles, and Clowney fresh and firing on all cylinders all game long.

He's great against the run and is a top-tier pass rusher - the rest is gravy. Totally a luxury pickup and one with lots of intriguing possibilities, but not a "do or die" measure by any means.... though, he would make that defense a LOT better immediately just simply because of what that group up front could collectively do.

I agree except if we can sign someone else, like Clowney, or throwing the cash towards Myles and get him extended now.

Pay the people you hope to keep for the next 7 years.

This is a big year for the Browns and Baker. What he does this year will tell a lot on what we want to do moving forward.

I expect he will play well, so then we have to think about extending him in a year or so, and being a QB we will have to ton out on that.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I wonder if extending Myles now may be smarter ... he’s probably at his lowest point after being suspended. I’m sure he’ll have another 10+ sack season and will have a higher price

Couldn't hurt to try but I'm sure he and his people are also aware of that. They are going to want paid based on his future potential, with minimal to no discount for his suspension.

Aight, So Radio said, Browns have Extended, 5th year options on
Myles Garrett:
and David NJoku:

Moving on, So, ... Joel Bitonio,

If nobodys' hating on him, must mean he's worth keeping around. I'm not sure, maybe he was re signed last year.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

How many guys we got from LSU now? Landry, OBJ, Greedy, Delpit, and Phillips. Am I missing anybody? How about Bama? Wills and Wilson, anyone else?

These are all guys coming out of top tier programs with cultures of winning. That's not to knock other programs, but there seems like an emphasis players from a winning culture.

Is this a guy we would have any interest in?
What is the UFA tender?

Giants placed a UFA tender on DE Markus Golden.

Golden now has until July 22 to sign a free agent contract with another team or else he will be stuck with the Giants in 2020. It's a rarely used tender, but it puts pressure on Golden to find a new team soon and more importantly makes him eligible for the compensatory pick formula in 2021. It's possible that he has to sign a prove-it deal despite his quality production from last season (10 sacks).
