Tucker activated; Butler waived
Jeff Walcoff, Staff Writer
10.06.2007
The Browns have activated offensive lineman Ryan Tucker, the team announced Saturday.

On Aug. 3, the NFL announced a four-week suspension for Tucker for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Tucker said he took a banned substance and failed an NFL test in the offseason.

The suspension ended Monday.

Tucker is an 11-year NFL veteran who has appeared in 62 games for the Browns since joining the club in 2002.

For the time being, he's expected to provide depth along the line behind right tackle Kevin Shaffer.

To make room on the roster, the Browns waived offensive lineman Kelly Butler.

Butler is no starter in this league and never will be but I find it hard to believe Nat Dorsey is better than he is.

Too bad we still have Nat Dorsey on the team.

Wasn't it him who let the guys through on that field goal against the raiders.

He's a joke and shouldn't be on this team. At least Kelly Butler tried......

I am also suprised that dorsey got to stay. Butler is a far superior player and a decent backup. Dorsey has no business on my team.

BUTLER is the one Inactive for 4 straight weeks

Butler's RELEASED upon Tucker's return...

Was Dorsey better than Butler?

Dorsey can play LT. I'm sure that factored into things.

with Tucker back, Shaffer could move back to LT in an Emergency,,, don't wanna see it, but I bet that would be the first option... Just a guess however.

The interesting thing about Butler's release is that, since we have two punters on the roster, sometime soon another spot is going to open up.

When Zastudil regains his health, Player will be let go. I wonder if this is how we get Baxter or LeCharles back on the roster.

Baxter is already on the roster. Bentley is on the PUP.

It Takes 3 to 5 year for an offensive lineman to actually get it.

come on WWII took almost less time and anyway thats the same logic that thinks charlie frye is the starting qb of the future 10 years

Now I do say B Quinn signed with the Browns in August and you don't learn an offense in 9 weeks
I won't critique B Quinn for on the field mistakes until the Houston game later this year

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Do you really think that Nat Dorsey is ever going to "Get it"

He's had a reputation of having absolutely no heart.

And you're right, we didn't see THAT much of Butler. But Butler had made contributions to this team, Dorsey never did that. I'd just see him go in during preseason and let whoever he was guarding go by.

If I'm not correct he was on the left side of that line that broke down during that raiders field goal block as well

And for whoever said Dorsey is our backup LT and that's why he's on the team........Shaffer is our backup LT, there's no way we're gonnna let Dorsey protect DA's blindside. If so, god help us all.

The guy's a joke. I'd feel safer with Butler than him in anyday. But with the O-Line we have now, hopefully we don't see him ever and he's replaced like next year.

Dorsey just turned 24 and is in his 4th year in the league...he may end up being a stiff, but the guy is worth taking a chance on. I do not understand the hate for this kid. Yes, I know about the blocked FG.

On the depth chart, he is listed as Thomas' backup...BTW Thomas will be 23 in December. NOT comparing the two...just making a point about how young Dorsey is.

I still think/hope he may be a starter when Tuck retires and Shaffer is traded.

lmao @ everyone

Has anyone else realized that the argument here is over which 3rd string OL should have been waived?

Damn, it's nice to have a good OL

Well...yes.

I just saw where Dorsey is inactive today and Tuck is active.

Basically, Dorsey took Butler's 'inactive' spot and Ted took Roye's.

That might support the notion that Shaffer really is viewed as Thomas' backup...even though they'd never show it like that.

Great point Purp!

We are now focusing on the thrid string instead of the starters or immediate backups. Wow. And that was accomplished in a relative hurry.

Two years and we go from a worthless line to a very good one.

Maybe Money and their contract came into a factor as who to keep and loose?.....Just a idea lol. Probably not the reason but i like saving a dollar here and there you know. Especially if getting somthing for that much cheaper which won't make that big of a diffrence one way or another.

Dorsey came out as a Junior...MAJOR mistake for Offensive Linemen to come out early...Specifically Tackles...

ALL Offensive Tackles and QB's should be guided and advised to STAY for the Senior Year...EXPERIENCE...

Danny's comments are coming right from Fraley...He KNOWS...

They hammer themselves in almost every thread

U see Butler for several games last year starting for Tucker...

IMO he sucked..nice run blocker, clueless in pass protection.I always felt ND played better at RT , plus he backs up LT...

Butler's RELEASED upon Tucker's return...
I told Daman that last week it would happen..

Have ANY OF U GUYS ever heard it takes 3-5 YEARS for an Offensive Lineman to actually GET IT???

Butler hasn't gotten it...yet..
