There's two reasons why this was bad. One, it gave NY a much needed lift when we had them completely on the ropes. Knock their starter out after 2 and a 3 run lead early on the road only to blow it. Two, if it goes 5 games it kills our rotation in the ALCS. Even if we win in 5, it's not going to allow us to pitch C.C. until game 4 (unless we're going to throw him on short rest in game 3) as game 5 would be Wednesday. That would eliminate our huge advantage of having Carmona and C.C. pitch game 1-2 and 6-7.

You're making predictions now? Why are you even watching anyway? According to you, our season ended 2 months ago.

As I pointed out two Months ago, Jason always cries like a little bitch about the Tribe, and the Browns. Remember he is the guy I told you would cry if he hit the lottery, because it was only up to 10 mill. instead of 20 mill.

I feel confident with Byrd going to the mound. He hasn't walked many batters this year and I'm not convinced the Yankees have broken out of any slump. Damon hit a homer in Game 1 and he's the one who hit the big homer last night. Who exactly has broken out of their slump? Damon wasn't in one. Jeter was 0-4. Abreu was 0-4. AROD hit some smashing singles. Giambi was 0-2. The Yanks only scored 6 earned runs. Byrd is going to make them earn their baserunners and I don't think they're up to the task.
Also, we got to Joba again and Hughes isn't going to be available. If Mussina pitches tonight I like our chances even more with what they have left in the bullpen.

You are the worst kind of fan. Non stop bitching. You are like the guys that sat behind me at the Ravens game, up by 2 touchdowns and constantly bitching and moaning. If we win the world series you will btch about something. You cry like a little girl. I bet if you have a girlfriend or wife she must be so proud that her significant other cries like a 7 year old girl who just got her barbie doll taken away from her.

He's just one of these fans that complain about everything and always predict the worst. They way, if the team loses, he has an "out" and can pat himself on the back for being right. Thus he still has something to be happy about. If the team wins, then everyone else is too jubilant in victory to call him on his crap prediction.

not hardly, we had our chance last night, only down by 2, wedge leaves JW in too long and comes out with aaron freaking fultz, when you have perez and bentancourt. Hell even lewis, in a 2 run game you don't bring fultz in. Sorry, and after clemens left the game, you put Gute in for Defense. and bitching Byrd who is 0-3 with an over 8 era is dumb. Oh but that makes me a bad fan right go get bent and quit telling people how to be fans. If you don't like it..don't respond

actually isn't not, a little research and even listening to the announcers would tell you, NYY has never lost a series after losing first game. but thats not what is problem, we had a great chance last night, bad BP management cost us. But i still think you throw CC game 4, i thought i heard they are going to pitch w-a-n-g. Byrd is TERRIBLE against the yankees, worse than westbrook which is why he wasn't pitching in his normal 3 spot in rotation. winless in 3 and an almost 9 era does not bode well for our chances game 4. With the exception of the opener, we've played like crap, either pitching was on or offense was on so far this series, with the exception of game 1 where it came together. But i guess because i'm the only one that sees this i'm whining, GMAFB. I just know what we need to do better.

Sorry, you told all of us that the Tribe was toast and we would never sniff the playoffs, back in mid-August. We then proceeded to go on a tear for the next month an a half, and we didn't hear one peep from you up until now. To quote a movie that I can't remember the name of, "Sorry ... we can't hear you. You are dead to us."

You bitch and moan about everything, Go back and look at the posts. If you do it here, I am sure you do it in your everyday life, you are that guy. Its ok, everyone knows that guy, except for you, because you're that guy. You will always find something to boo hoo about.

You're right, if we don't have them both on every night and win every game by 6 runs, then it's not worth winning....
I don't really care if we win a pitchers duel, a shootout, or a blow out... as long as we win...

First off, you don't gas your best relievers in the 3rd game when you're up 2-0 in a 5 game series. The reason Wedge went with Fultz was to set up the opportunity to have everyone (of importance) available to pitch as much as needed in game 4. In my opinion, it was the right move. Plus, it's not like Fultz is a bum. He had a pretty decent 2.92 ERA this season. He made one bad pitch that was compounded by an error.
Ok, so you don't want Byrd to pitch? Who should start? Laffey? Come on, I could care less what Bryd's ERA and record is against NY when given the alternative. That is, unless you think it's a good idea to pitch a rookie on the road, in his first playoff appearance? Or do you think we should throw C.C. out there on short rest after throwing 114 pitches in 5 innings? You may not like it but it's the best alternative. The only other option I see is Perez, who hasn't started a game all season.
New York wore out their best bullpen option last night (Phil Hughes) and is starting Chen Men-Wong (who just got lit up in game 1) on short rest. On a side not, I had to spell his name with an "O" because there's a censor for the word w*ng? Anyway, they're in a desperate situation and I really don't see why people are freaking out? We got to Chamberlain again last night, cementing in his head that we can score runs off of him. We also eliminated their best starting option for game 4 and their only steady long reliever in Hughes. NY's bullpen sucks in long relief. If we can knock Wong out early the Yankees will be scrambling for warm bodies.

I can't think that Chamberlain is available this evening, neither is Hughes. I think after W*ng, it'll go to Mussina if needed for length. After that it's Vizcaino and Rivera. I cannot explain Torre burning Chamberlain last night as long as he did. Nobody in that pen could protect a 5-run lead? I thought that was the worst call of the evening.

Yeah, I found that kind of bizzare as well but given how bad their bullpen is, Torre probably didn't feel comfortable with someone else. We put up 1 against Chamberlain and threatened to plate 2 more so maybe justifiably so. It will definitely be a move that's heavily scrutinized if Chamberlain can't go tonight or gets lit up because his arm is sore.

This is what being down 0-2 in a short series will do. You go with the best available when on life-suppport. I don't fault Torre for it.
Also I know I'll take heat for this, but I would pitch CC today on 3 days rest. I would pitch Carmona in game 5 if needed. While I love his competitiveness, I can't see Byrd winning this game. I think CC on 3 days and Carmona in game 5 if needed gives us the better chance. You know the Spankees will be pitching their "aces" in today and game 5 (Petite).
Nobody says CC has to go nine innings. He and Carmona only need to go 5 or 6. The Rafael guys take over in the later innings. That's why I would skip Byrd and pitch our aces on short rest.
Just my $0.02 Fire Away.

The Yankees are messing around with their pitching and they don't have that much of it to begin with. So the Tribe took a loss, you still have them in hand.
As for the "yanks haven't lost a series that they lost the first game..." They (or anyone in MLB history) hadn't lost a 7-game series after being up by 3 games before 2004 either. ANYTHING is possible.

No....but if we don't win tonights game, I think the Yankees have the mo and will win on the return trip to Cleveland.
Nine more wins is what it takes. Anything less is failure.

Ballpeen, I tend to disagree about the whole momentum thing. Baseball is the one sport where I don't think momentum comes into play as much when going from day to day. Even if we happen to lose tonite which I don't think we will, I can handle having it on our ace's shoulders going into a game 5. We knew this was not going to be easy in the Bronx. You have to give NY a little credit for staying patient at the plate and making Jake work when they were down 3-0 yesterday. They didn't panic, and I don't think our guys will either. I really believe in the leadership in our clubhouse (Vic, Trot, CC, etc) and I think we will not press as much as everyone thinks. I for one think that one thing Wedge has done a nice job of is keeping the fresh mentality from day to day. We have been consistent with our "approach" all year and their is not anything that makes me think we will just all the suddon fold. Sure, I was worried in July/August when we could not get any long winning streaks going, but these guys knew what they were doing obviously. That is all I can go off right now. I could care less about anything else, just what they have shown me all year in the face of criticism and doubt and turmoil. THEY HAVE RESPONDED ALL YEAR AND WE CAN DO IT AGAIN!

Point out where I called you anything I said you were crying like a bitch, I didn't call you one. As far as saying something to your face, hell there are lots of people on these boards who will attest to the fact that I wouldn't say anything on the board that I wouldn't say in person. So take a deep breath and relax.

Shoppach has caught byrd all or most ofhte year, why change it now, go with what has worked and for the most part it has, nothing is ever as perfect as we wish it would be, I hate seeing Garko's bad out of the line-up but if having shoppach catch for byrd helps byrd mentally pitch a strong game them i'm for it, and really it's game 4 he's always there to pinch hit if needed, hopefully it won't be needed,
