Mike Garcia reacted on Thursday to becoming the first Republican to flip a Democratic House seat in California in more than two decades saying, “There's an awakening here in California.”

Democrat Christy Smith conceded the special election race for California's 25th Congressional District to Garcia on Wednesday, marking the first time Republicans will retake a Democratic-held congressional seat in the state since 1998.

Garcia, a former Navy combat pilot, had a 12-point edge over Smith, a state assemblywoman, as of late Tuesday night in the contest for the swing-district seat vacated by Katie Hill after her resignation.

Congrats Mike Garcia! thumbsup

One of the best conclusions of Katie Hill legislative seat was Cenk Uygur was denied!

The Young Turks founder Cenk Uygur received just under 6,500 votes rofl in Super Tuesday’s primary election for California’s 25th congressional district, finishing in fourth place, results certified by Politico on Monday show.

The progressive media personality finished with just 5.5% of the vote in the jungle primary, behind Democrat Christy Smith and Republicans Mike Garcia and Steve McKnight.

Smith and Garcia will advance to May 12’s runoff to determine who will fill the 25th district’s seat, which was vacated by Katie Hill amid the ethics investigation into an alleged affair she had with a congressional aide. Uygur was endorsed by democratic California Rep. Ro Khanna and received praise from then-presidential candidate Andrew Yang.

He was also endorsed by Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, but it was later retracted as video emerged of Uygur making sexist comments about women and arguing for the legality of certain kinds of bestiality.

there are a number of young republicans on ballots around the country that I'm very intrigued about. They aren't in my district so the amount of research I've done on them is limited but I do follow a number of them on Twitter..

My current impression is that many of them are struggling with how much they want to throw Trumps name around... Most of them seem pretty reasonable, they will support him when they think he did something well but they aren't afraid to distance themselves from him at times too...

Good, we need California to wake up. They have taken a bad turn since Ronald Reagan left as Governor.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
