I’d encourage everyone to read this article. It’s unbiased. It’s filled with easy to digest facts about the transmission probability of this virus. https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2020/05/coronavirus-covid19-exposure-risk-catching-virus-germs(I posted this in the political forum too. I know not everyone wades in the swamp there so I wanted to get eyes on this information here.)

5-10-minute read. Everyone should take the time. There is some good, common-sense info here. And it's devoid of any politics or slant. The graphs and visuals are very revealing. The piece is too well-done to copy/paste only the text. Trust me... click this link. Thanks for the article. I might change my sig to this: As states reopen, and we give the virus more fuel, all bets are off. I understand the reasons for reopening the economy, but I've said before, if you don't solve the biology, the economy won't recover.

He asses the risk of catching coronavirus in a variety of settings, including events like weddings and birthday parties. I hate when people ass things. Haha. Somebody needs a better proofreader. Good information here. How anyone can look at the current situation and not understand what is coming is beyond me.

I have a dumb question. What is reproduction #? Is that R0?
If that's the case, then the trend of the graph really doesn't matter so much as where you are currently in relation to 1 (right?). Since it's a graph of a rate, the trend of the graph isn't as important as the latest data point. With the graph at 1, and our hospitals currently not bumping up against capacity, that's a good thing. Easing restrictions should (and have) bump up that rate, but so long as it doesn't keep rising past 1, then we're ok.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

What should happen with a R0 less than 1 is that the R0 should keep decreasing. The fact we're seeing a rise towards above 1 is what's concerning.
If the R0 reaches above 1, we should start tightening restrictions again.

Uhm, the reproduction number is going upward...? Not sure what DeWine's getting at here... I assume he means from the Feb. 25th date, but you're correct, there has been a recent uptick. Andy Chow @andy_chow Dr. Amy Acton, Ohio Department of Health director on the R0 number (R naught) which tracks the potential rate of infection from one person to others Says they’re following a slight uptick in that number Ohio did see that number come down to 1:1 Flu typically 1:1.2 https://twitter.com/andy_chow/status/1265346471718604800

We're going to be back at February 25th levels by midsummer if we don't readjust, again.
I wish science was more fundamental that politics.

Problem is, we can't stay locked down forever, or even a whole lot longer. Even Fauci agrees with that.
Staying at home was never about curing the virus - it was about buying time AND moreso making sure hospitals aren't/weren't over run.
With no vaccine, how long should we require people to stay at home?
Some of the numbers, the up tick if you will, is because more people are being tested. Makes sense that more would test positive as more are tested.
We can't stay shut forever, we can't stay shut for months more.
Science is working on this, but it's failed so far. No problem, this is a big issue, new issue. They're working on it.
Wear masks. Then we hear for healthy people, don't wear masks. It spreads from objects, then we read it doesn't. Wear masks, they protect you. Wait, masks don't protect you, the protect others. Intubate the bad cases - wait, that's not right.
I say open up, with REASONABLE restrictions. Common sense type things, like half capacity in restaurants, etc etc etc.

Well, after having the privilege of traveling back and forth and back between OH and the St Louis area in one week's time... I can definitely say it's two different worlds.
Very few people wearing masks out there, everything is packed, business as usual. Went to pick up carryout and the restaurant and bar was packed. Absolutely no social distancing, every stool at the bar taken (they had just reopened), no barriers between the booths. Crazy. The state of MO had been slow to close and quick to reopen, the numbers have been kind to say the least - we'll see if they hold up.
Most of the places I've been in OH seem to have the gig down pretty well. Picked up something at Kohls for my wife today. Sanitation station at the front, everyone being responsible. My footprint was my pinky at the front door and the bag someone handed me at customer service, they'll even bring it out to your car.
You may call it fear-mongering, but we've been scared straight in this state - and I have no problem with it. Personally, I've become really well-versed in any rituals I need to perform in order to stay safe. If we're all careful and conscious we should be good. My fear is that people are letting their guard down at the worst time.
Went back to MO because my wife had to return to work at GM. They take their temp and have them in masks all day. Masks must be worn at all times. You would think they would have done something to move air through the place while they were closed for eight weeks but "nah". If they survive covid, they will probably die at the hands of a overheated, mask-wearing worker going postal.
Sadly, I'm back home for a funeral, funerals are dangerous, wish me luck.

My wife has to wear a mask at work, as well as get her temp taken when she goes to work.
Bars and restaurants around here at least, have removed tables, put up plexiglass, etc.
I would say, IF I stop at a store, 80% plus are wearing masks.
I don't have a problem with common sense measures - I have a problem with over the top measures.
Our church is opening this Sunday. Doors will be propped open, OR, someone with gloves and a mask will open the doors if the weather isn't good.
Temps will be taken at the 3 entrances. Masks are strongly urged, but not required. We will have 3 separate areas for people to sit if they aren't comfortable in the sanctuary - video feed to those areas.
Before and between each service, all pews will be wiped down. Drinking fountains and the coffee machine will be shut off. Pews will be taped off according to social distancing guide lines.

A guy I worked with for 13 years died last week. They didn't even have a funeral, other than for the family, due to the virus. He died of kidney cancer. It will be interesting to see in the future week or 2 if it was "covid" related.

That all sounds reasonable to me. I’m ready for PA to open up under restrictions ... common sense stuff like less people, more sanitary guidelines, etc make sense

j/c:
I had to go to Lowes for some stain for one of my projects. I then went to another store to purchase some leather for the top of the project. I stopped at the grocery store to pick-up some steaks for dinner.
People in SC are not being cautious. I did not do actual calculations, but my estimates of people wearing masks:
Lowes: Less than 30 percent. That was troubling. It as probably closer to 20 percent than 30.
Craft store: Around 35 to 45 percent of the people had masks on.
Grocery store: It was a Publix and they attract customers who are a bit more wealthy and educated than places like Kroger, Food Lion, BiLo, etc. Probably around 65 percent. Maybe a little higher. Not quite 70 percent.
Alarming.

I hit the grocery before work this morning. My first trip to since the 7th of this month. There was only a handful of people, mostly elderly, in the store. It was 7am after all. Sadly I saw more than a couple maskless shoppers. Most of those were in age group that COVID kills at the highest rate. I wore my N95. I can feel pretty confident that I won’t be the one that kills them.

The inclusion of "up 160% from yesterday" is kinda annoying since yesterday was the lowest in a long time, but today's number is still lower than the recent averages.
Additionally, it is nice to see all the important running counts decreasing (hospitalized, ICU, vents).

True, but what effect was increased tests in those results
347,477 tests – 10,256 since yesterday (way up from 6,887 Tues)
Logical that more tests means more positives.

I did a few checks on Delores Cahill. She is legit. World class scientist. Top of the field. She is the woman being interviewed in the video.
Watch the vid I posted if you want to learn. She knows more about it than any of us by a long shot.

That's no conspiracy. Just sound nutrition. And besides, what the heck could it hurt? A mask and hiding in the cellar sure isn't the answer.

https://www.factcheck.org/2020/05/outdated-fauci-video-on-face-masks-shared-out-of-context/QuickAn outdated video clip of Dr. Anthony Fauci is circulating on social media — giving the false impression he is currently advising the public not to wear face masks. Fauci, like other health officials, recommends wearing a cloth face covering when distances of at least six feet can’t be maintained. Full Story On April 3, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reversed its earlier position on the use of face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic and announced that it was now recommending that people should wear face coverings in public, citing new studies on the transmission of the virus that causes COVID-19. “We now know from recent studies that a significant portion of individuals with coronavirus lack symptoms (‘asymptomatic’) and that even those who eventually develop symptoms (‘pre-symptomatic’) can transmit the virus to others before showing symptoms,” the CDC said in its announcement. “In light of this new evidence, CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.” Despite the new guidance, dubious Facebook pages and groups — some of which advocate alternative medicines, conspiracy theories and anti-vaccination messages — have been recently circulating an outdated recommendation on the use of face masks. The pages are sharing a March 8 video clip from CBS’ “60 Minutes” showing Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, saying: “There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask.” But at that point in early March, the CDC recommended conserving face masks, which were in short supply, for health care workers and those who had COVID-19 and were showing symptoms. So, Fauci gave an answer that was in line with CDC recommendations at that time. Here’s what Fauci told Dr. Jon LaPook, chief medical correspondent for CBS News, in the clip circulating on social media: LaPook, March 8: There’s a lot of confusion among people, and misinformation, surrounding face masks. Can you discuss that? Fauci: The masks are important for someone who’s infected to prevent them from infecting someone else… Right now in the United States, people should not be walking around with masks. LaPook: You’re sure of it? Because people are listening really closely to this. Fauci: …There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask. When you’re in the middle of an outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet, but it’s not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is. And, often, there are unintended consequences — people keep fiddling with the mask and they keep touching their face. LaPook: And can you get some schmutz, sort of staying inside there? Fauci: Of course, of course. But, when you think masks, you should think of health care providers needing them and people who are ill. The people who, when you look at the films of foreign countries and you see 85% of the people wearing masks — that’s fine, that’s fine. I’m not against it. If you want to do it, that’s fine. LaPook: But it can lead to a shortage of masks? Fauci: Exactly, that’s the point. It could lead to a shortage of masks for the people who really need it. Since then, the science around the novel coronavirus has evolved, Dr. Dean Winslow, an infectious disease physician at Stanford Health Care, explained in an interview with FactCheck.org. In early March, so few patients had been tested that public health officials didn’t yet know that people could spread the virus without showing symptoms, said Winslow. “That was just not known at that point,” he said. Winslow noted that Fauci appeared to be making two points in the interview. He was pushing back on the idea that a mask could protect the wearer from infection, and he was emphasizing the importance of other measures, such as maintaining a distance of at least six feet between people. Both of those things still apply, according to the CDC, which explains on its website that the point of wearing a mask “is to protect people around you if you are infected but do not have symptoms.” In appearances aired on PBS NewsHour on April 3 and May 12, Fauci again noted the importance of physical distancing and, in line with the evolving public health recommendations, added that cloth face coverings should be used in public. But the Facebook pages didn’t share the more up-to-date interviews. Instead, they shared the old interview without noting the date. For example, a Facebook page that supports the widely debunked conspiracy-theory video, “Plandemic,” shared the old clip on May 6 with the caption, “Dr. Anthony Fauci: ‘There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask.'” That’s the opposite of the advice Fauci was giving by that time. Editor’s note: FactCheck.org is one of several organizations working with Facebook to debunk misinformation shared on social media. Our previous stories can be found here. This video is just the latest conspiracy theory filled video like Plandemic. That is what I wanted, some feedback. I wouldn't say she is a quack. She clearly has the credentials. I just don't know if the science backs her up on the immunity. It's hard to know what to believe. I have a cousin who works for the CDC. I may have to contact her.
