Why would anyone want to be a police officer in this day and age. I'd argue nobody should have wanted to be a cop 6 months ago too (here in Chicago). My hope, people will still want to be cops because they can enact the change from within that is needed fur us to heal this, but I may be too naive. In general, the protests are inspiring, hearing the mayor of Atlanta and Killer Mike speak yesterday made me have hope but seeing all those videos of looting and violence in Chicago, areas I've lived, worked and walked, breaks my heart.

Seeing video, or pictures, of places I have personally been to in Cleveland, Indy, Columbus, and Chicago.....I don't care for it. I'll leave it at that, other than to say "what did those businesses do to deserve what they got?"
I understand that Floyd did not deserve what he got. And many others, as well.

I was told today on Facespace that I'm "tone deaf" and "part of the problem" because I don't support the looting and rioting and violence.
I'm sick of this world.

Have charges been filed against the other officers who did nothing to stop the murder of George Floyd? I know the main dude was charged, but what about the others?

As of my last check yesterday afternoon, the answer is: No charges have been filed but they are being investigated.

So, what do people think about filing charges against the other officers who were at the scene when George Floyd was murdered? Should they be prosecuted? If so, what's the charge? If not, should they lose their jobs or be reinstated?

And we’re sick of you.
Will write all kinds of crap speaking out against looters and rioters, but won’t write all kinds of paragraphs condemning the issue for why the riots started in the first place.
It’s always “I don’t like what the cops did but” and never “I don’t like what the rioters are doing but”.
Perhaps if you actually showed you give a damn about life over property you wouldn’t be called tone deaf. Target and those businesses can rebuild. George Floyd and other white, black, and Latinos who have died by the hand of out of control cops WONT get their lives back.
And it’s funny how guys like you will speak out over riots due to civil rights violates but won’t say a DAMN thing about people who look like you storming government property with rifles just cause they don’t want to wear a freaking mask in public.
You’re not sending the message you THINK you’re sending, and that’s why people call you and others tone deaf.
You’ll be the first one talking about I had nothing to do with slavery, or Jim Crow, or anything else.
Ok, great. But the moment your FELLOW Americans ask you to stand with us to change the laws, you and others like you always come up with reason to go “yea but.....”
It’s ALWAYS yea but. It’s never “yea and I stand with you”.
But you’ll stand with those losers who protest over not wearing a mask though. You stand with the Karen’s who are ticked they can’t get their hair done by the asians, though.
If you have 1000 “good” cops, and 10 bad ones, but the 1000 good cops won’t call out the 10 bad ones and get them out of the police force, then you have 1,010 bad cops.
Stand with your people and maybe you won’t get called tone deaf. But I get it purp, that asking way too much of you fence riders.
Burn. It. Down. Y’all want peace, then deliver justice.

If not, should they lose their jobs or be reinstated? Like with anything, "it depends". Probably at a minimum, Willful/Reckless Endangerment. Perhaps Manslaughter. And, yes, there absolutely must be consequences for them. The old-school "silent blue line" needs to be erased. They need to start holding themselves and each other as accountable as they try to hold the citizens they have sworn to serve & protect.

My view is that the 4 officers fall into 1 of 3 categories. The main guy doing the kneeling, the 2 that were right there that seemed to be helping and the 4th guy standing by watching.
I don't now enough about the Law to know what charges should be filed but I think the main guy is guilty as F*&%, the 2nd and 3rd guy are accomplices and need to be charged with whatever is appropriate.
The 4th guy is a tougher discussion in my mind. I don't think he acted (in this case meaning action-less) out of malice. I think he was just weak. I wonder if he was a rookie. I have a hard time seeing his actions as criminal. But I do find fault with him a cop who's job is to protect the weak and defenseless. He should have said/did something but he didn't. Is that a crime? If you are in a bank and it gets robbed are you guilty because you didn't intervene? No, but you are not the police so that complicates the issue. At a minimum, he needs disciplinary action and retraining (if he were a rookie I could see this). I say this because I am not a fan of firing people for one mistake (granted this was a big one) especially while they are learning their job. He should probably be fired for incompetence, especially if he has had any prior issues.

It’s a damn shame that black people care more about white lives than their own fellow white people do.

And regardless of if they survive the charges, their law enforcement careers must be over. You don't poke and prod at a cancer - you cut it out. If three officers can watch that, and don't have the balls to stop it, they're not fit to "serve and protect".

People claim they want limited government and that big government is a problem, but can’t even consistently speak out about the police departments that enforce said big government laws.
Freaking pathetic. Y’all show time and time again you love big government when it comes to oppressing minorities. Everything else though? They need to stay out of the way lmfao so pathetic.

People will claim there isn’t systemic racism in this country and that cops aren’t racist.
Ask those same people if they would be swap places with the average black person though and deal with law enforcement, and we know what their response would be.

If purp and I stood side by side as veterans of the military in front of white people, white people would assume purp was a veteran first before they thought i was.
No matter what we do in this country, no matter how many boxes we check, we will always be viewed as minorities first before anything else.

If not, should they lose their jobs or be reinstated? The one dude that was already charged... guy is cooked. Throw everything at him (in the legal sense) and make sure everyone sees the full weight of the legal system absolutely crush him. Other three guys need to be charged, but they have to be smart there. The charges need to stick, and that's going to be trickier with those guys. I'd rather be disappointed with the severity of the charges than watch them walk because prosecution couldn't hit an elevated burden of proof.

Additionally, I think enforcement institutions would do well to highlight either what they're already doing to prevent stuff like this, or what they're changing to mitigate something like this happening in their precinct.
I say it this way, because a sibling of mine is an OC sheriff. What she had to go through, physically but much more so mentally/psychologically, to get through the academy and then start out her law enforcement career was crazy. Her and my brother were talking, and they agreed that the mental/psychological aspect of her academy was right up there with what he went through when he started out in the military (special operations).

One thing that is often overlooked, but is just as horrible as the Silent Blue Line, are the unions. You can't just fire a dude; you have to get the union buy-in for it. You can suspend, etc, but you can't remove them completely unless the union decides to not back them.
The dirtbag that did this, whatever his name is (I don't need to know)... had what... 18 complaints or incidents in the past? Yet nothing came of any of them. Clearly, that is a systemic failure.... but where in the system? Is is cops staying quiet? Is it Lieutenants, Captains, and Chiefs letting things slide? Is it the union backing him and preventing him from being fired?

With my opinion of unions, it's easy for me to find the smoking gun there.
Wow... yeah. 18 complaints before this? No accountability is bad no matter what environment you're working, but things like law enforcement allowing that to happen is devastating.

IMO this is a large reason for the disease. Other officers see there are no consequences and act accordingly - the bad eggs do what they want and the weak and marginal think that is what is needed to earn respect. Combine that with the fact that you are now luring like-minded scum to come and work with these thugs and disease becomes a bona fide cancer.
