Something that has been bugging me for awhile now.

Who is the leader or representative of Black Lives Matter? Is it an official movement? An organization? Why is there no communication or coordination of the movement? Why is their no leader of BLM denouncing the violence and looting. Where are they???

Um... they have a website. Folks actually make those now.

Before that, you might consider at least going to wikipedia for a basic overview. You'll find names, history, all kinds of neat stuff that you don't know. I'd provide the links, but I don't want you to become dependent upon hand-outs.

Well, that's quite the website. Here are some highlights I found.

I did view the history page about the co-founders. I still haven't seen them on the national news making speeches for calm or actually "leading" so in my mind that doesn't constitute strong leadership.

What's your point? Do you want to shift blame to the black movement? Just because they don't fit your idea of what a movement should look like and they don't play by the rules you want to set? GMAB This is a huge part of the problem. You don't get to dictate to others how they should act when they are the people being hunted in the streets, not you. You don't get to dictate how they should feel when they are the oppressed for over 400 years in this country, not you. You don't get to dictate the form of the box their outrage should fit into when their sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, fathers, and mothers are being murdered and no justice is being done for those murders... What I don't get is what the hell makes you think you have the right to do those things? Is it white privilege or do you think you are in some way their superior? Tell us, inquiring minds want to know.

Also, just because I question a particular group's movement and their ways of doing things doesn't mean I'm racist. I'm allowed to disagree with you and anyone else unless you forgot we were living in the United States of America.

From an objective standpoint, black or white, I think the communication and coordination of BLM sucks ass. I want justice for black people just as much as anyone else. However, when I go on their self official website and I see articles that correspond with nationally defunding the police I am deeply disappointed. This is not the way a group should conduct itself if they want to be taken seriously in any way shape or form. What they are advocating for is not a realistic or viable solution, its quite laughable actually. Defund the police across the country? How you going to do that? Why would you want to do that? That's unacceptable and its a symptom that the group leadership is weak when they have messages such as that on their website. It means there's no coordination, validation done behind the scenes to scan, edit, approve what is deemed acceptable. One thing that may shock you depending on what you believe in is I WANT BLM communication to be better. You know why? Because that means there's a better chance that they effect others in a positive manner and aid\open channels of communication. As long as there's weak leadership, unsavory rhetoric, and propaganda being posted on their website then they are communicating a negative and uninspiring message.

BLM should be about promoting justice and rights for African Americans. That they should be seen as equals to everyone else, not defund the police. You're not going to get anywhere with childish statements like that. If I was in charge of the website, that type of stuff wouldn't be on it. It all comes down to the image that BLM wants to project and they want others to see. Now you can't tell me that the founders of BLM agree with something like defunding the police, can you? That can't be true can it? When I see stuff like that on their website it leads me to NOT take the group seriously in anyway. Now just for indulging someone else, let's just say, hey, I'm not educated in the full history of their movement. That's fine, however, having misleading articles on the official website is not the way to recruit or get people to empathize for your cause.

BLM also needs to step up their communication in disavowing the violence and looting that is going on. They need to distance themselves from that as well, because if they don't then people automatically assume BLM = VIOLENCE\LOOTING, which I don't think is the case at all. If I were them I'd work on communication. Without effective words AND actions their movement will be misinterpreted.

So let me ask you, do you think local police departments should be funded to buy surplus military equipment against citizens or do you think that should be stopped?

I mean do you think it sends the right message to your citizens that your police department will use military equipment against its citizens?

There's a difference between wanting to disband the police and defund their ability to purchase military equipment to be used on the streets of America.

Most of the police brutality we've seen wasn't from the use of surplus military equipment. Personally, I'd like the police to be a little better armed than the public and be able to address issues as safely and efficiently as possible. The issue is with the culture, not the equipment. I don't understand the calls for defunding.

I'm having a problem equating "military vehicles and equipment" to being, "a little better armed than the public". I see those as two totally different things. Otherwise we agree.

Then again, the current fleet of patrol cars isn't holding up very well to the onslaught against them. Maybe something a bit more heavily armored isn't a bad idea.

I'm sure bringing out military vehicles would help matters.

Hey the public has that stuff, and the Police should not be sitting ducks for the fellons. So as for me I think the police should have it. BUT we do need more police oversite to weed out the idiots in the police departments.

By that logic, I want a helicopter with automatic machine guns.

I want to be able to purchase a full functioning Apache helicopter, WITH military grade weapons and ammo.

I had no clue that citizens were traveling our streets with military assault vehicles.

I agree, in no way shape or form should the police be defunded. That just doesn't make sense to me at al. There's a reason they are armed and have arsenals as well as they do. They didn't used to be but examples such as the North Hollywood shootout, Columbine, and other occurrences created policy changes across the country for police and swat. They should be armed with fully automatic weapons and more to deal with whatever comes at them. The issue is a human one.

I read in the news that last year 41 unarmed Americans were killd by Police. 19 White, 9 Black. Oh and 89 cops were killed.....Just saying
