Disgusting. I mean there should to be a camera in there, right? If so, find out who did this and make an arrest(s).

You two blaming Trump about this noose story like this problem has only been around since 2016 is drastically undercutting the issue entirely.

That being said, I'm not surprised at all by the responses.

It’s the trump era pal ...his racist supporters are all in and are doubling down on hate crimes! Pffft the party of law and order? Always breaking the law.

What if Bubba did it himself knowing the outrage it would spark would get him more support? Or someone high up within NASCAR did/ordered it knowing their response could bring in more support for the sport?

I get the outrage. It's just a little early to start throwing around blame until it's figured out who actually did it. It could very well be "Trump supporters," but it's only an assumption at this point.

A rich, white business person trying to take advantage of the current political climate could make its own sort of sick sense.

The drastic rise in hate crimes since 2016 is purely a coincidence.

Except they didn't blame Trump.

In the political forum - and on a post about a blatant racist act of hate and intimidation, posters commented on:

[1] How some people like to (falsely) state racism is dead.
[2] Alluded to how some of Trump supporters are from the Alt Right and supremacist fringes (true).
[3] How the racial divide has widened under Trump.

All of those observations are justified and appropriate for a political forum talking about racial division and a racial hate act.

Of course if you can't reason or debate those points you can:

[1] Claim something that's not true and say the people are blaming Trump for the Noose.
[2] Like a post that attacks the posters.
[3] Come up with a scenario suggesting it's entirely plausible the victim did this to himself for the headlines.

A person who finds a smoldering blaze didn't start the fire. Once he pours gasoline on it however, he helps it spread into a raging inferno.

Please help me understand how it is the fault of "Trump supporters" that someone placed a noose in the garage of a black NASCAR driver.

Crap is endless and makes no sense.

Hate crimes were lower during the Obama years and went back up when Trump was elected... to pre-Obama levels.

While I only did a simple Google search and clicked on the first link that came up (and didn't go any further than that), it illustrates a point I think some are trying to make. While Trump certainly isn't helping, he's also not the problem. Voting him out in November won't magically defeat racism... which is kinda the feeling I get when I read some people's posts. While the two obviously walk parallel paths, the Trump problem and the racism problem are two separate problems.

You seem to dismiss one simple fact here. You are certainly correct that Trump isn't the cause of racism. Trump being defeated in November will certainly not make racism go away.

But as with the very statistics you cited, when you have someone pouring gasoline on a fire, the fire spreads and makes the situation worse. I think it's a terrible thing when that person happens to be the president.

Magnifying, complicating and promoting the spread of the fire is certainly an addition to the problem we have enough of a battle to fight without adding onto it.

They keep ignoring one simple fact. It's certainly true that not all Trump supporters are racists. It's also certainly true that all racists are Trump supporters.

See, I see it the same way you do, only in the opposite direction. I think saying things like Daman's and PS's earlier in the thread ("Trump era", this is what happens when you have Trump... and stuff like that) really cheapens and oversimplifies the whole conversation around racism. Racism preceded (and some argue was a cause of) Trump. Not the other way around.

And I agree that some may phrase things in a manner that make their points confusing and appear in a way that isn't as clear as it should be.

But I'd be willing to bet that both of them understand that Trump didn't start racism. Just that he is a catalyst of racism spreading and in some way being endorsed.

I would have put it a little differently:

Not all Trump supporters are racists, but it's true that all trump supporters allow racism to be acceptable!

It still astounds me that you can't see that the "protests" are often doing the exact same thing: Fueling the fire.

I'm sure if you lived during the time of The Women's suffrage movement, segregation and the Civil rights movement your comments would be the same.

In each and every case, only through social unrest, protests and civil disobedience has major change came about. History has taught us this lesson.

And to add - the 1 comment you picked is not accurately reflected in my post. But then I read several comments and was replying without the benefit of the actual comments. I think the general sentiment is overall right - and I think in a political forum, it's fair to talk about Trump's influence on the racial divide in the country. As Pit just wrote - not all Trump supporters are racist - but overwhelmingly most racists and supremacists are.

* The second comment you included is exactly addressed by my comments. Point 3.

rofl oh stop! We’d be so further along in the racism conversation if it wasn’t for trump and his deplorable racist supporters. Pffft the trump era. The finger is pointed directly at trump and his supporters for spreading the hate, as it should be.

History doesn't teach lessons. People take from it what they will.

"Each and every","Only through", you seriously believe that?

You're 100% sure that there couldn't be a better way? That change has never occurred without violence?

History keeps repeating itself because people erroneously believe they have learned the lessons of history. Really, they are just repeating the things that ultimately didn't work.

You see things happening because of things. I see things happening in spite of things.

There is probably some overlap, but your vehement use of absolutes is deeply troubling.

When society waits until social unrest happens to act, it's obvious what the catalyst was for that change. The fact you refuse to see that is not my issue. Unless it's your claim that in every one of these cases it was "merely a coincidence".

Yeah, that crap won't flush.

How would that be any different than me leaving some fried chicken and a watermelon on your front porch? Other than it would be more expensive.
