Browns place RB Jason Wright on IR
12/19/2006, 4:47 p.m. ET
The Associated Press

BEREA, Ohio (AP) ? Cleveland running back Jason Wright was placed on injured reserve with a sprained left knee ligament on Tuesday, the ninth player lost by the Browns this season.

Wright injured his medial collateral ligament during Sunday's loss at Baltimore when he got hit from the side by a Ravens defender. Wright, who made three starts this season, finished with 189 yards on 62 carries and added six catches for 82 yards.

To take his spot, the Browns signed rookie running back Chris Barclay from the practice squad.

Linebacker Clifton Smith also was signed to the active roster. He replaces rookie D'Qwell Jackson, the Browns' second-leading tackler, who was placed on IR last week after undergoing toe surgery.

Smith was with the Browns during training camp before being waived on Sept. 2.

I really wanted to see Barclay play in preseason, but he was injured and didn't get much playing time. He was later signed to the practice squad. The guy is a very similar back to Harrison, but hopefully he knows how to block... If he can, I'm glad to see the guy possibly get his chance...

I liked Clifton Smith out of college.

I don't know why anymore, but liked him then and like that the kid is getting a shot.

Ok Reuban's main threat to digging into his carries is gone so now he'll have 2 games as the def. main back so I think if he struggles it may be time for a change but if he shows life, he'll be in our backfield a lot then.

At this point, the best backs in the league would have trouble showing any signs of life behind our OL. Reuben showed he can be more then adequate last season. If we could give him any kind of blocking, I don't think his name would even enter any discusions. He had back to back 1,200 yard seasons and probably has atleast 2 more solid years in him. Would it nice to have a gamebreaker? Sure it would but a better offensive line can make any NFL calibur RB look very, very good (see Willie Parker).

Peen, think Harrison will get some more playing time? I like what he does on the field (when it doesn't involve blocking )

Drat, I like Wright. But hey, why not see what else we've got? Hopefully the injury isn't actually that serious.

I pimped Chris Barclay HARD in the off season.. was hoping we would pick him up and we did...

I hope he gets some nice PT these last two games... for some reason I feel that he is better than Harrison..

Tampa isn't much of a pass-rushing team. Might be a good time to try out Harrison and/or Chris on a more extended basis.

Hey, if it's just a sprain they won't have to cut him open and give him a staph infection! Woohoo!

[color:"orange"]dawgs we got two games left...then one. Pretty much anything halfway severe - Wright's didn't turn out a disaster as first thought but it takes more than 3 weeks to get to 100%...obviously 6 games ago this happens he isn't on the IR he's listed as doubtful or even RAC universal questionable. But with 2 games left its simple - IR.

Peen I'm with you on Smith you already know that. He looked a tad slow to react in pre-season. But something turns me onto a 270lb ILB - look for him to show up on special teams and maybe some Goal Line situations.

Barclay...maybe the fastest of our RBs in camp. Since we aren't tendering Cutt an offer and looks that we will let him walk...I want to see the kid run back some punts

Harrison. I don't think we want to give Barclay any reps at RB his is insurance. So its RD and Harrison. RD was sharing reps with Wright. And I think RD hurt his foot...not enough to be out of the game but definately enough to be sharing the load with Harrison. Hopefully we will run 30+ times. Harrison will surely get more than 10 reps.

Hope the kids allright. That was a prototypical bad hit. It was good to hear he walked off the plane. Good news that it's just a sprain.

Here is where my doom & gloom opinion could be turned around .. What in the world have we got to play for in the last two games ... Get these Kids on the field for some length of time and lets see what they look like .. The devil with the guys drawing the big pay checks now ! .. Be a leader RAC. send a message stating this Sunday ..

This is too bad. It seems the only real impact is that now it makes Rueben the only RB that RAC will play as a premier carrier (and I use that term loosely.)

Barclay is only being added for depth as I doubt he sees any real playing time.

As much as some of you may want to see new blood, I see RAC playing those players with experience who give us the best chance to win.

I would also like to suggest we sit Winslow too. No reason for him to go out there on a bad wheel and force anything. The season is over, let him rest up for next year.

I want to see more of Harrison, and for god sakes, if TB decides to blitz nearly every down---PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE RUN A SCREEN PASS!!!!

Run some misdirection. Do something that will cause the Defense to hesitate from running blitz after blitz after blitz.

I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch......
