Before we draft Brady, I said I was a Brady hater.

I did not want him at pick #3, period, end of story.

We got Joe Thomas to my enjoyment.

I did say if we took Brady Quinn, and I quote myself.

Quote:

He better sit AN ENTIRE YEAR, NO EXCUSES!!!!

I hold to that. Derek Anderson has been a pleasant surprise, but even if we were 0-6, I would say NO TO QUINN!!!!!

I know if I can "Armchair GM", and come up with a perfectly good reason we need to get Quinn in, Savage has it figured out also. We can't allow the FA period come around without knowing what direction we need to take with the QB. We will either pay Anderson to much to sit the bench, or let him go then wish we didn't. Our remaining schedule is filled with teams that will make teams interested in Anderson. Those that are going to WHEN Quinn goes in this year don't, Quinn playing is in the teams best interest. God I love Anderson now, he is going to force Brady onto the field with good play. Didn't see that one coming.

I dont think that would happen, but why destroy what Anderson has going on right now? He's growing fast.. It would kill him to just pull him out, for no reason.. I say lets see how far we can go, then take action when the time comes.. SIMPLE

Then you pretty much tossed the season.

Once we are totally out of the postseason....say week 14, when we are 5-8 or something, then I would be fine with it, but if we are 7-6, absolutely not.

I won't go against what I said. Quinn must sit.

So Diam...What ya want...see your stud boy come in....The Browns are playing good ball....So lets put in a rookie....and keep going at .500.....No way...There`s a thing called progress...and thats happening right now....Think about it...DA is getting wins against decent teams.....

I saw alot of mistakes from DA and the receivers....But I don`t see a reason to change now....That time may come....But right now the team is belieing in themselves...

What cracks me up is Brady lovers want him to come in after a weaker schedule...Pittsburg is really the only tough team we will face...And the Ravens are beating weak west coast teams......Could`nt beat us...did they ?

Sounds like 1 decent team

In fairness to Diam, he hasn't been around since before the game. Not that one game would change his opinion.

Not a whole lot to report on it,.......He basically understands his role as a backup,....The part of DA's game that he wants to incorporate in to his is his awareness and big play abilities,.......the most difficult thing while being on the sidelines is keeping up with the pace of the game,..practice is one thing and game play is another.

He knows he's 1 play away from getting on the field and referred to the NE game when he almost got in,...he said "unfortunately it didn't work out,...Derrick was OK.."..

I think he (like everybody else) felt he'd be playing by now and I sensed a little frustration on his part.

....another thing,....he always takes a spoonful of honey 20min. before each game,...his Dad told him to do that when he was young and that it would make him play better,...so he's always done it.

diam...It comes down to present goals....vs.....future goals.

The team is in a position to "possibly" challenge for a playoff spot on the strength of our offensive output. If that goal becomes unattainable later in the season, then we may see Brady play.

Injuries are always a possibility too. Brady is one play away from lining up under center.

Be patient...Brady will get his chance...WOOF...mac

I read that your under the weather. I hope you get to feeling better. That excuses the above comment

Playing Quinn would set an incredibly bad precedent. It would undermine any players confidence when a high draft pick is sitting there behind him.

I know you want him to play, but it just doesn't make any sense right now, especially after an amazing game by Anderson.

100% correct and I'm a huge Quinn fan.

Putting him in now would be a slap to every other player in that locker room.

It's crystal clear, and it stays that way

I want Quinn to get his feet wet. I want to win games. At 3-3, we're still in the playoff picture. Benching Anderson now, after he's had his finest game as a pro, and one of the best games by a Browns QB in recent memory (in terms of decision and play making), undermines so many things that it's not even funny.

There's a time for Quinn, but the one guy that will make his entrance possible isn't Crennel or even Opie, it's Anderson. Until Anderson bombs, it's his job and there really isn't even a question about it. He didn't bomb against the Fish, in fact he did the exact opposite, so he earned the right to play Bulger and the Greatest Sham on Turf (damned hard for me to say that about Anderson *L*). Now can he keep it up throughout the year? Unlikely. However, he has put a doubt in my mind, which is saying something.

Quinn will have his time. Now isn't it.

Well I have been harder on Crennel and I am changing. The Anderson move was right although I disagreed at the time. The real credit doesn't go to the QB...this is still a team game and now we are starting to have a real team so don't forget that the QB starts the process and the rest finish, The GM HC and players are the right mix for success maybe not great but better and I have to give Savage credit for strating the process and Crennel credit for having faith. Quinn also benefits so we do have progress...did you noticce no team controversy no questioning plays and no problems with getting the ball. Finally a team...I hope it continues.

Why would you make a change in an offense that is top 5 in the NFL in scoring- including the egg they laid under Frye game one. You take that game away and this team has put up numbers. They have a shot at the playoffs. We couldn't even utter those words at any point of the season in previous years. It would be a stupid move. Very stupid.

Well since I have been away(from the board, not the games) attending to matrimonial matters, I am just now getting into this thread.

I have to agree 100% with something Diam said earlier.

Quinn should start if:
A) He is ready to play as he is 100% up to date on the playbook
AND
B) He gives us a better chance to win than Anderson.

Well personally I think that it definitely has to be a both or no go situation. If he satisfies A but not B, then we are officiallty saying that we are giving up on the season. If he satisfies B but not A....Well it could have been argued that he satisfied that for game #1....But Lets forget that for now...If he satisfies B but not A...We can do more harm to him than good.

so what is the situation now?????

Does Brady satisfy A???....Well I don't think we can 100% say that he is up do date on every play in the book. After all we are not in the know and sitting in on all of the players meetings and practices. But I think all of the educated guesses that say "yes" would not be far off. I think he is about as caught up with the terminology, plays and reads as any QB on this team...

IMO I think he is ready to play in that respect. But I have nothing concrete to back it up aside from the information we know about Brady and his make up....and the words from his mouth saying he is all caught up...I also have not heard anything to contradict this opinion of mine from anyone in the organization.

So the feeling is Yes for situation A....

Does Brady satisfy situation B???? I think this is the sticking point. I think it is absolutely correct in saying that the Offense under Anderson has done far better than we could have ever hoped it could after the Steelers game. Does Anderson make mistakes??? Absolutely....as do all QB's....Did some of those mistakes cost the Browns Wins.....Not entirely on their own, but it could be said that better QB play could have brought about at least 1 more win. Is the offense the part of this team that is holding this team back??? Absolutely not.

Now sticking Brady in to some of these Questions or variations of....Will Brady make mistakes??? Absolutely...possibly more than Anderson until he adjusts to the speed of the game. Will Brady's mistakes cost the Browns wins???? It is very possible...

But the question we face now is this. How much better could Brady do in these games than DA???? Personally....at this point....I am not sure the answer is significant enough to rate Brady as satisfying situation B.

Because as bad as some want to make DA's games to be....His play has put us in position to win games that most of us did not give us a chance in hell of winning if asked at the beginning of the year. His play...including good and bad throws and good and bad decisions have put us on the brink of 4-2.

This in NOT to say that Brady doesn't give us a better chance......If DA's play had a larger affect toward losing games instead of winning them.....I think it would be a much easier question to answer from our outside-in perspective. But since DA's play has contributed heavily towards wins(I mean really...who in their right mind would have said that this offense would have the ability to win shootouts with most if not all the teams) I think this question can only be answered from an inside perspective. Which is something that we will never truely have...even those that have "sources" are getting information that is based upon anothers perspective(albeit inside) and not their own.

The questions that need to be asked in order to determine situation B are this....
How will the team chemistry react to a change in QB when considering the play of Derrick Anderson????You have a lot of guy's rallying to Andersons cause and deservedly so. I think a change could possibly have more harm if the players feel the move is unjustified.

Will an improved play(assuming it is an improved play) on offense win more games with a defense that is like a sieve? Sure we might score more points....or we may not as we give the opponents longer fields to take more time off the clock giving us less time with the ball. Even if we score more points on offense...there is no guarantee that it will bring more wins. The offense or QB has not been the biggest problem in our losses.....

Does DA have more to show us in his play or has he progressed as far as he can? I thought there was an easy answer to this one but I think he has gone farther than most thought..so who really knows from our perspective.

Is the timing right to make the switch??? Frm an outside in perspective it is easy to say that this is good timing....We give him 2 weeks to gameplan for a weaker team....We are out of the forrest of the Heaviest D's in our schedule....It seems to be good timing for Brady....But is it good timing for the Browns??? DA is coming off a very good game and has gotten us to a point no one could have predicted....his play muddies the water a bit.

I am not a huge fan of DA. Except mainly in comparison with Charlie ...He is doing exactly what this offense needed. He is being decisive and he is getting the ball out on time. The OLine Play is helped because of that and so the OLine is able to give back and give more time to DA when needed. Could we have better play that what DA has given us??? I think so...would it make much differnce in the Win column.....I am not so sure it would.

For me I can't make a knowledgeable decision on whether or not Brady gives this team a better chance to win from this outside-in perspective. Anything I say would be a guess and not much of an educated one. I think that in order to make this decision....you would have to see how the practices went, how the meetings went, how the film breakdown goes....and importantly, how the team reacts to each of these under each QB as well. And that is just something that we cannot get from our perspective.

So you got married Pete? Congrats! (and sorry )

The above is the crux of the situation.

If you bought Edwards a couple of beers and asked him whether or not he's interested in sitting the QB who's got him on pace for more than 1400 yards, 77 catches, and 18 TD's, I think we all know what his answer would be.

Ask Winslow the same question. His numbers (except for TD's) are nearly identical.

So while I whole-heartedly agree that the mental side of benching Anderson and his 88+ QB rating for a rookie is a concern, there's also the physical side.

The bottom line is that we simply can't bench Anderson right now. It could easily happen later, but this isn't even a question at this point.

First off Pete,, Welcome back (to the board) and congrats on the wedding... Be happy!

Quote:

AND

Who knows if Quinn is ready? Wait,, let me answer that,, RAC and Chud and his teammates should know!

Who knows if Quinn gives us a better chance to win? Wait, let me answer that,, RAC and Chud and his teammates should know!

By the way, when I say teammates, I'm including DA in that mix.

Here's the problem, if all they have is a belief or gut feel that Quinn is ready and can give us a better chance to win,, and everyone isn't on the same page, then is that enough to risk team chemistry?

Probably not! IMO anyway. Remember, this is coming from a guy (me) that wants to see our shiny new 1st rounder play.. I want to get on with his career already..

But I'm also concerned about team chemistry..... Right now, even the most critical of fans have to admit,, the Offense is doing pretty well.. Oh yea, they can point to the inconsistencies of DA or the simple yet costly mistakes he makes from time to time and say,, THAT'S reason enough for a change..

But in the end, we are 3-3 largely because of DA. On top of which, you can't hang the Pittsburgh loss on him.. and while he was awful in the Oakland game, he had enough stuff to get us back into a position to win at the end. (of course, he totally screwed up in the NE game, but even the best and most experienced QB's do that from time to time)

So as much as I want to see Brady Quinn get into a game, I don't want that at the expense of team chemistry.. It really does have to be something that the entire organization,, Players, GM, Coaches, Owner,, they all have to buy in completely,, Then chemistry won't be an issue.... none at all.

Having said all of that,, DA will be a RFA after this season.. WE don't know what's going to happen with him. (there are a few possibilities) So it's only smart to get BQ some game experience..

NRTY...This board have gone to the dawgs, literally. I remember in the old days when posters on here would demand for a player to earn their starting position. Now we just give a player a position because of a MAN-CRUSH(can't even believe theres a name for such a thing). Freakin pathetic!!!
