I am going to have a procedure done on my back in a little while, and I have to go have a COVID-19 test done in advance of it. Doctor's office said that it is a drive-thru at St E's Boardman. lol crazy

Good luck booking a cab or an uber ride to a rona test! smh

Seriously, Ytown I hope all goes well for you. But I had to throw that out there for the hilarious (but not really funny) mental picture.

I just did one of those drive thru tests. Not to worry you, but that was one miserable experience. After they power rape and scrape your schnozz you have to drive away while your eyes are watering and you're on the edge of a monster sneeze.

My wife had the nose swab test. She's tough, but she winced when they stuck it up in there. I drove her there and home, so that was a help.

My kids and I did the blood test because you can the results in about 15 minutes. However, someone told me the swab was more accurate. Not sure if that is true or not.

Yeah, it seems like they are trying to make it out to be more than it should, he didn't remove the mask he pulled it down. Didn't seem like he was near anyone. What's the big deal?

Maybe had he taken it all the way off and threw it away, but he just pulled it down.

I hate wearing the thing, so when I'm clear of the door/landing of the grocery store that thing is off my face. I somehow manage to take it off even when my hands are full.

I was looking at the #s this past weekend, and LA county is driving the CA numbers just like NY was driving the US numbers back when this whole thing started in the US. Other metropolitan areas are up, but you have to lump like 4 of them together to add up to what LA is doing.

The numbers are up in several counties, LA is just waaaaaay worse than the others. Living in LA I can see why. I have friends and family members who have gone back to nearly normal life and/or who have been called back to work.

I think the point is that the only reason he had it on was for the cameras. It was literally a show piece. If it wasn't, he would have left it up.

Control was always an illusion. Lockdowns and keeping businesses closed was unsustainable. Keeping people confined to their homes was bad for mental health all-around - even Fauci says so.

The only way through this is to go through it.
Do what we can to mitigate the impact along the way, but we simply have to go through. There is just far too much time between now and end-game to sit idly in place and wait.

Especially when it was just allowed to run rampant for a month or two before we did anything. And then when we did do something it was a half measure.

Most everyone with power, everywhere, was slow to act.... but, it doesn't actually matter. The spread would be what it is one way or another. Once it escaped China, the current state of the world was a foregone conclusion. It would only matter in degrees of severity at varying times. It's just the nature of this thing - you cannot test enough people often enough and reliably enough to contain it and it isn't the sort that burns itself out, so, by virtue of that, it WILL end up everywhere.

Tell that to Singapore, Thailand, and a bunch of other nations that followed strict mask wearing guidelines and who’s citizens and leaders didn’t act like petulant children when asked to act on their fellow countrymen’s behalf.
Our country screwed this up big time. Many countries are doing MUCH better.

IMO, part of it is because for many many years, we have been a divided nation. Always challenging what the other side says.

Had this not been handled by politicians, and left to the health experts, the guidelines may have been followed by more people.

Anytime a politician shows up on TV and requires something, you will have 2 sides as far as compliance. This is the US, and there is always that segment that will stand up and claim constitutional rights and fight it, even if they know it's correct.

It spread but we are doing among the worst at containing it (maybe only Brazil has been worse).

Testing is only part of the solution. We haven’t done any contact tracing when it is a proven way of slowing the virus.

I find this very confusing. Health experts don't "have a side". The principal person who made it about "sides" was the president. Up until that point people were listening to the health experts and using some common sense.

That was my point, that once politicians start making the speeches and instructing people what to do or not do, then it becomes more about parties/sides/agendas and not about the overall health of the public, in the eyes of many.

This is a health crisis, the only ones that should have been presenting information and guidelines are the health professionals, not the politicians.

The problem is the responsibility was left to each individual state. The people who were presenting the information was the healthcare professionals. They were even recommending guidelines as we saw when Fauci gave the guidelines for reopening the country.

The responsibility to set the guidelines and restrictions however often are not within the power of those professionals to set. The power to enact those guidelines into law often lie in the hands of government officials.

Now if your assertion is that we need to overhaul the way that works I certainly agree with you.

Additionally, the power of those governments to enact certain things only exists during the duration of an emergency order and otherwise need that state's legislature to enact something more permanent/lasting.

And, I disagree that it needs an overhaul... there should absolutely not be an end-around loophole that circumvents the need for a legislature to act. There are very good reasons emergency orders/powers are time limited and that heads of departments cannot make de facto law.

Is it inconvenient in times like this? Probably a bit, yes. It is still very, very necessary.

I guess we see it differently as to what took place, as I saw the professionals make guidelines and suggestions and politicians deciding if they wanted to follow those or not.

We always had conflicting information, on top of the information changing at such a rapid pace, people just got to a point that they didn't know who or what to believe or follow.

There just wasn't a unified front.

Don't you consider a national emergency being declared as grounds for emergency orders?

Exactly. A total lack of leadership at the very top.

It doesn't matter what I think.

Those declarations and orders are limited in scope and to enforce anything beyond that scope requires legislatures to write bills and pass votes to enact something more lasting. Emergency orders only exist to buy time for legislatures to get up to speed and gain a clearer picture in a time of crisis. Not one legislative body anywhere has taken it upon themselves to enact anything more lasting than any short-term emergency order.

They are limited in scope. To what extent that limit exists is up for debate.
