They are limited in scope. To what extent that limit exists is up for debate. No, not really. Timeframes and what can be done is actually pretty clearly defined by existing law. This is the reason DeWine couches everything in terms of being a recommendation - he can't declare people MUST do thing without facing a legal battle because his state of emergency has expired and cannot be extended without a legislative vote.

Have it your way. Nothing can be done legally to help prevent the spread of a pandemic or require citizens to show an ounce of common decency to others unless they "feel like it". Murica!
Unless we can get divided politicians to agree on it.

I know, that law thing sure is pesky and annoying. If only we could just do whatever we wanted and wave magic wands and make wishes come true!!
And, plenty can be done legally.... but, it has to follow the law in doing it.

Stay home and wear a mask if you go out around people. I’ve got another shipment of N95’s arriving Friday. I don’t go into public without one on. Haven’t for months. I only wear a cloth mask when visiting with friends outdoors, social distanced. I also wear a cloth mask in my shop, but it’s just me and my buddy. We keep the two man doors open and the big garage door open for good ventilation. If we have to work in close proximity I pull an N95 on. Good luck out there. Be safe. Stay home if you can. Mask up when you can’t.

Well since it has been made clear that people who wear masks are only doing it because they're against Trump...
I guess the death toll will keep going and there's nothing we can do about it. Yeah, those pesky life saving laws.

I fully expect a spike after the 4th. Too many people will ignore all warnings and go to BBQs, the beach , the park, the pool.

And as long as hospitals don't hit critical mass, let it happen! The more people that get it, the fewer places it has to spread.

I can briefly take all emotion out of the COVID-19 discussion... I am fascinated how positivity rates can vary so much.
Is it because AZ is basically experiencing its first surge, and they don't have their processes down like NY? How about CA, this is their second surge, you'd think they would have their stuff together, right?

In some areas hospitals are already hitting critical mass. I wonder, should we learn from what those places did wrong before everyone else hits critical mass? Or should we just wait until it happens like they have done?

I think a lot of the states that opened up early and laughed in the face of restrictions are getting hit the hardest. Most of those states have Republican leadership.

It's really strange. Here in Nevada the numbers are going up. But I probably have close to a dozen anecdotal accounts from people I know that work in or for hospitals and people I know who's spouses work in or for hospitals that say the hospitals are very slow.
Seems like we have a high number of asymptomatic cases here in Nevada.

It seems your gov. has learned his lesson from watching other states and is being proactive in preventing your hospitals from being overrun before it starts... Nevada Gov. Agreed. They had a very callous and cavalier attitude towards it and are now paying the price. Problem is it could spread to other states that are doing better and cause a delay in the country getting a handle on it. This started at the beginning of March. If guidelines were followed strictly by all the states we would be way ahead of the curve by now.

No. I'm not talking about total cases or new case counts. I'm talking about the % of tests that come back positive. Recently I saw that NY is like 1%, while AZ is something like 1/4 of all CVD tests come back positive.

It seems that many people are positive and show little to no symptoms, so is it possible that NY had a lot more positives than they ever tested so most are immune for now, so spread has slowed. While other parts of the country went into lock down and rather than keeping the people isolated from the virus, they ended up keeping the virus isolated from the people, which now that people are out and about it's free to go rampant now?

If the reports are true that this spreads slowly and continuously through circulated air and is particularly potent when being in an enclosed space with other people for a sustained period of time, I could see this have happened in NY with how people basically live in crowded buildings and share air.

Or people in certain states are taking the guidelines/mandates more seriously? Also, some states, New York for example, require masks when out in public.

It's not a bad theory at first glance. However, to believe that one would have to believe that happened in almost every country that is doing so much better than we are at the present time against the virus. That's when the idea seems a little more far fetched.

Oh. Got it.
Running some numbers here:
Around 11,600,000 citizens in ohio. 52865 divided by 11,600,000. I get less than 1 percent. In fact, half a percent if I'm doing the math correct.
Deaths, 2876. 11,600,000 divided by 2876 is less than a tenth of 1 percent.
Did I do the math wrong? Honest question.
