Back in the day, Timothy Leary asked John Lennon to write a campaign song when he was running against Ronald Regan for governor of California. That quest ended when Leary was imprisoned for possessing marijuana.
Lenon talked about writing the song and how he tried to come up w/something, but in the end it was all "gobbledygook." He made a comment that I think some misunderstand. He said something like you couldn't have a campaign song like that, right?
I think about that statement and I think about the real message. Did Lennon believe all political rhetoric was gobbledygook? Did he recognize how insincere most political stances are? Did he slyly mock the political system and the passionate folks that support one side or the other?
Maybe. Maybe not.
I will say this. Before the 2016 election, I was preaching that we needed to come together. Hell, I had preached that far prior to me talking about such things on this board. After the election, I pleaded w/my fellow Dems to learn from this and try and "come together" w/the folks who make up large voting blocks. I implored people to please not alienate the very folks who make up the majority of voters. I have repeatedly said that we need to bridge the gap instead of divide and conquer. That we should respect people and try to win their confidence instead of alienate them.
For that, I have been attacked by certain folks. Insinuations of being racist are thrown around. Being a trumpian or whatever it is called has been suggested. Lies have been told. What the hell are you people gaining by resorting to such nonsense?
Thus, I am going to try once again. I implore people to "come together." Maybe it is just a bunch of gobbledygook, but I will feel bad if I don't at least try and help unite this country.
I have some ideas on what the "sides" can do to help us come together. I don't proclaim to have all the answers, but I do think it is more important to find solutions to problems rather than assigning blame.
I pretty much know this won't work....LOL.............but, I will give it a shot and accept the ridicule, because I actually do care about my fellow man.
I did not proofread this, so I apologize for misspellings, typos, grammar errors, syntax flaws, etc...
Here is the song. I am playing it for two reasons. The first is I just love the song. Melodic poetry. The second is that I think it's pretty obvious to thinking minds that he was mocking the entire political system.
you'd love my version, then. cello is a sexyass instrument.
In the right hands it can do some pretty snakey things. My version bumps, too... I reworked the bass line into a nasty funk riff under the verses.
I use a looping station to clone myself into 4 voices. I build the piece from the bass up, and the melody is that last thing to get added. Chords and rhythmic effects are the other 2 voices. A performance of it usually takes 7-8 minutes. The crowd gets to watch a piece get put together like a LEGO project.
kinda fun.
(sorry for the hijack. we now return to our regularly scheduled broadcast)
The problem for me is that there's no viable candidate who supports all of my beliefs.
Seems like you get one candidate that is hard right and another hard left. Where's the moderate centrist option? I want:
A candidate who is for
Small government Fiscally conservative Auditing the federal reserve bank Socially liberal Less government programs Less drug enforcement Strong 2nd amendment Strong legal immigration Strongly against illegal immigration Less foreign trade with China Less military involvement
Oration skills of Ronald Reagan or JFK.
I haven't found any candidates that offer that. Why?

You must have forgotten how the guy who used crude, childish BS like "lyin' Ted" and "little Marco" was the guy who won. The man who spit the most venom come out the winner.
So now you're promoting the losing strategy.

You guys still don't understand why Trump was elected?
Here's a hint: the way you guys view and treat the people who voted for Trump after he was elected is the same way you viewed and treated them before he was elected.

Oh we get it. Trump and his minions do this same thing all the time. When we fight fire with fire all you and other "peaceful warriors", like the guy who started this thread want to do is cast stones in one direction.
When we fight fire with fire, you just claimed when we employ the same tactics, that's why we lose.
Yet you refuse to point out that when the other side employed the same tactics in 2016, they won.
When you and vers start spewing this BS at the other side on an equal basis, maybe someone will take you seriously. As of now it looks like you have decided which side to go after for something both sides do.

I'm employing Trump's winning strategy from 2016. The "When they go we go high" strategy of Hillary was a losing strategy.
That's what rational people say, when in doubt, act like Trump
And yet, people call me the Trump supporter instead of you. I say,"do what MLK did" and get castigated. You say, "do what Trump did" and get applauded.
No one notices the hypocrisy?

You almost make me want to support Trump just because you and People like are on the other side. Almost, but he's still Trump. At the same time, you make it practically impossible to support anyone that would have someone like you as a supporter.

And yet you still deserve to be ruthlessly mocked.

I didn't call stupidity. I say it's a political strategy. You're the one who tried to change the words to suit your opinion. Strategy that won in 2016. Do I like that strategy? Not really. But when you think our very nation's values and principals are at stake, you fight the battle plan that's been shown to win. That's where I'm at. And I will stay there.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
A "battle plan", as you call it, that was used in a different time and place against a different opponent. It was used by a "side" that had different strengths and weaknesses than your side. You don't win battles by emulating your enemy. You win by emphasizing your strengths and exploiting an enemy's weakness.
You don't attack Trump's "weakness" of being a horrible person by acting like a horrible person yourself.
The first step of winning any battle is "knowing yourself" and knowing your enemy.
Becoming your enemy is antithetical to "winning."

Quoted for truth. I tried to warn them before the last election that alienating the majority of voters was a bad idea. I tried to address it after the last election, as well. I keep preaching about how we need to bridge the divide and work together. That offends them. I get guys like Rocket and Pit implying I am a racist.....LOL.......it is so bizarre that I can't even describe it.
I do know this..........they have alienated me. And if they have alienated me, I can't believe how others feel. And even when they are told this is a bad strategy, they ignore it and attack even more.
I have said these two comments many times:
--Do not become what you hate."
--Arguing w/bias, hate, and accusations actually hurts the cause.
They might win this one because Trump is such a turd, but it won't last. Platforms that are based on hate, bias, ridicule, and selfish behavior quickly fall out of favor w/the majority.
You are spot on Vers. So this happened Thursday alll day to my wife on Facebook with her cousin....
My wife has always identified as a liberal, until now. She said she can no longer do so with the hate being spewed by the alt-left. I’m more in the middle, probably Libertarian is closer to my views. Anyhow, her brother posted this on FB:
Quote:
I love how the same people that are saying "the government cant tell me to wear a mask, I ain't one of you sheep!" are the same ones saying "dont break the law and you won't get shot"...Like pick a lane 😂....or maybe you're just racist 🤷‍♂️
Since Ohio doesn’t require masks (which is dumb) she made a response along the lines of the above being a false equivalency since masks aren’t the law here. Her cousin responded with “I’ve seen you defend racists and white supremacy on several FB posts”, basically calling her that in the passive aggressive manner the alt-left has become accustomed to. My wife took exception to backhandedly being call a racist and white supremacist, to which her cousin said “I didn’t call YOU that”, lol. It started going down hill from there, a summary of the rest of the conversation (I’d post it here, but her cousin deleted everything and unfriended both of us):
Her cousin went on to say “you need to read White Fragility”. My wife politely declined saying she wasn’t going to read a book that felt all whites were inherently racist and that the book in her opinion (and mine) was not something she was interested in.
From there my wife was called ignorant, racist, not willing to see other perspectives and many other hateful things.
My wife finally told her to just leave her alone, of course she kept harassing. My wife finally responded telling her she was no better than the alt-right which did not go over well. More of calling her a racist and white supremacist ensued.
I eventually chimed in as I was tired of my wife being called horrible things. That just made the thread snowball to an epic meltdown.
At this point her cousin started spewing nonsense. “I wish I could shoot the idiots that don’t wear masks” and “if you won’t read and learn about racism you’re a racist”.
Then she stared DMing my wife (after deleting all of her posts) saying how I see you can’t stand up for yourself and that she needed me to step in and “give her a talking to”. She then said you are definitely racist and unfriended both of us.
There was a lot more to it, the above went on all day. My wife, who HATES Trump, said that if it wasn’t for the probability the next president was going to pick Ginsburgs replacement on the SC she would vote for Trump. I was shocked those words were even spoken by her.
An opinion can no longer be spoken and a civil debate be had without personal attacks from either side because of the “alt” groups. The majority of people, IMO, are closer to the middle. The alt-left has become what they hate and seem blind to that and it’s going to get Trump re-elected. If my wife can say she would vote for Trump there are a lot of others that will be thinking the same. Calling all white people racists is counterproductive and just furthers the divide. Most people, again IMO, know there are issues that need to be addressed and name calling and labeling all people from one “group” is causing tension and hatred to reach unprecedented levels. It is truly a sad state of affairs for our country, and it saddens me greatly.
Lol I’m sorry but this constant narrative that this somehow the left is gonna make people vote for a racist is such garbage.
Just nothing more than a display of mental weakness.
I agree with your wife’s cousin. Read it, cause my 11 and 9 year old daughters show more backbone than what you just posted. That’s really fragile.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
That’s why I don’t argue with trump supporters. Like swish said they deserve to be ruthlessly mocked.
Well, "you all" do try to argue with non-Trump supporters who question your methods and generally lose while not making much sense. Then you turn to mocking because deep down you know you're wrong and can't make a legitimate argument.
When that doesn't work you try to generalize or change the subject. Then you make childish Pffft noises.
The people who think ruthless mocking is a good tactic are the promoters of justice?
You mess with the "Bull," you get the horns. Fiercely Independent.

They're not going to make many people vote for Trump, but they are pushing people away from their candidate which according to all the Democratic memes I've seen amounts to the same thing, right?
So, if you're pushing 5 people away from voting for Biden, you're effectively giving Trump 5 votes using "woke-left" logic. Unfortunately, a lot more than 5 people are being pushed away.
It might not matter, but it very well could. But, carry on, keep being unwitting Trump supporters in all but name.
You mess with the "Bull," you get the horns. Fiercely Independent.

How is what I posted showing no backbone and fragile? Please explain. The fragile one was her cousin who became completely triggered because there was a difference of opinion.
You think I allowed some people on social media affect my support for Obama or warren?
I can easily defend my support for them WITHOUT mentioning republicans, conservatives, or hard leftist that annoy the crap out of me.
Also, seems like the support for Biden and Democrats due to the current climate has more than made up for the few being “pushed away”.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
So her cousin single handily has the ability to make your wife throw away most of what she believes in?
That’s the definition of fragile.

Not single handedly. It’s the constant hate being spewed over months, even years, by the alt-left. The alt-right does the same thing. This was the tipping point, when your own family joins in on the hate. If you ever meet my wife, she’s anything but fragile, lol. She is no longer liberal due to the constant hate being displayed, not by a single person, but an entire group that call themselves liberal but are anything but.
